I love the Five seveN and the p90 from an engineering perspective. I know a lot a people dislike the 5.7 round, but personally I wish they had been more widely adopted. Great video btw.
The thing I like about a Mag release safety is if someone is attempting to take it from you from behind or whatever & it feels like you are loosing, you can drop the mag and know the guy will not shoot you with your own gun.
I had one of these; but sold it out of needing money. I was easily hitting 8 inch targets at 200m using the pistol with adjustable sights. It can attract some attention on the range when people notice your doing that.
The US Secret Service uses the FN P90. One of the main reasons is because it will not over penatrate. The round is bottle necked. It tumbles upon impact, ripping apart tissue and organs.
Got mine Friday. Took it to the range today (Saturday). I shot 40 rounds without a hiccup with the FN and 66 rounds with the Smith & Wesson 5.7. without a single problem. The FN shot more accurately. But, the FN comes with better sights than the S&W. My plan is to install Hi Viz sights on both my S&W 5.7 and my S&W 22 mag. I have a Holosun 507 that is now resting in its box. I had trouble adjusting it. My best shooting has been with iron sights so far, but I am a novice when it comes to shooting pistols.
I like the trigger on my 57 a little long but crisp and light. Not a 1911 trigger but it does just fine. I love how people hate on the 5.7 when they have never shot one. I love mine and would use it over any 9mm. It's nice to know you can engage a target at extremely far distances with a pistol. If you can put the sights on it, you more then likely gonna put rounds on it, that simple.
Hey bud, love your review, i have this gun , the gen2 like yours, everything you said about this gun is true. you could have mentioned camping and hiking purposes too , very lightweight and high capacity makes for a great outdoors gun. for the gentleman that wondered about the trigger reset, this gun has a very good reset.
I liked your review, just a small suggestion. If a pistol does not have a good reset it can be the difference in making or breaking the purchase , maybe in future reviews you can try and give us a taste of what the reset is like on whatever particular firearm you are reviewing. Anyways good review man.
Anyone who has never fired the Five Seven needs to go out and fire one right now. I love this gun. I don't own one but in my opinion its the Cadillac of handguns.
What a deal man! I wish I would have bought one a few years ago. I'm thinking about getting an AR57 upper with a 6" barrel. I really like this caliber.
the biggest advantage apart from weight accuracy, is the piss easy field strip low maintenance easy clean, a weapon always available for use instead of having to take apart more than one part to keep it maintained
i believe that if the slide is locked back. And you insert a mag with 1 or more bullets the slide releases, and thats why it has such a high pressure on the slide lock.
The FN FiveSeven is LEGAL to own, at least for certain in California. CA has a handgun roster list, and the FiveSeven is listed by name on it, as well as date (meaning it's approved at least until April 2014, the date listed). The SS190 AP ammo IS (I repeat IS) legal to own, however, FN, by their own accord, restricts the supply. AP ammo has a legal definition that is NOT "will this go through XYZ" but is determined by the composition and weight of the metals in the bullet itself.
Cool, those ballistic tipped civ rounds address the over penetration factor that's a negative in a self defense scenario. Aside from a 1911, I'd love to own one of these.
reaching out and shooting someone beyond self defense range can land you in trouble ", true but if you are out camping and you are beinfg tracked and killed "Deliverance " (i love that movie) by those types , you may want to reach out and touch em beyond legal range. This gun makes a great camping Gun, Light , large, smooth as heck, large capacity, light recoil. great for camping, i love mine.
Opening theme: "Old Snake." Very fitting since Snake's first gun was a Five-seveN in the original Metal Gear. Nice little "easter egg" you have there for those who know. ;)
Nice review. Keep in mind that "reaching out and touching someone" beyond justifiable self defense distances could land you in rather warm legal waters. If used for its 'fundamental' role, that being on the battlefield then reach on out there all you can! I've been tempted by this firearm, alas I just cant justify its total cost of ownership at present..Ammo prices are nothing at all to sneeze at.
@MrUtubegunner Its very hard to explain cause the trigger is not a DA/SA but its also no a typical DAO trigger. As you can see when the gun is rack back the triggers has a SA like trigger pull but it also has a heavy trigger. Its a good trigger for what it is but Its a very weird system.
Good job with review, a lot of the things you dont like is your personal preference. I have one and i love it, this is the gun i carry now i have an HK45, Glock 40, Springfield XD45 and i prefer the 5 7 over the other ones. Just my two cents. Great Job on the review you cover all the details.
this round was DESIGNED for armor penetration. it's light but very high velocity. force = mass x acceleration, or in this case deceleration. if it's going very fast and is forced to stop very quick, it'll have exert a lot of force regardless of weight. look at the difference between .22LR and .223, you can use 40gr .22 subsonics or 40gr .223 varmint loads to VASTLY different effect... i dont think anyone's ever complained about being shot by a lighter round.
Canadians can own handguns with barrel lengths of no less than 105mm or 4.1inches , so I believe the FN 5.7 is legal in Canada, we just can't carry guns for protection.
Great Review, thank you. Have had mine about the same amount of time. Who did your Trijicon night sights? This is the only pistol I have with out them and want to put some on.
@AuJusGravy The ammo is not that cheap at all. It cost slightly more than what you pay for 223 now days. I would say the plus to getting this pistol is that you'll shoot it more than the AR.
I really gotta agree with you on the 5.7 caliber round. After shooting it just a few minutes ago, i really felt the light recoil and was able to reach out and slap down plates at 50ft (i wouldn't use a pistol for anything farther than about 30ft)
Depends which rounds you buy, the armor piercing military ones are illegal everywhere as far as I know, but they have civilian ones that don't have the armor piercing tip.
you brought it along on a 3 day trip through Disney parks and it performed flawlessly...hmmmmm...unless you were picking off families on a rampage, your piece probably stayed in your holster the whole time..so sure, it just sat there flawlessly...wonderful...oh and BTW, which threat was bigger - Mickey Mouse or goofy?
sounds like a good deal on today's market finding one its a deal on itself. All of those saying this is just an over power 22 are folks that can only afford a 22lr so they justified not having the fiveseven by comparing its stopping power to that of their own 22.
@buzzsah I have had two of them. The first had the adjustable sights and I later got rid of it and now I have fix night sights, the latest offering cause I missed the one I had once it was gone. By the way don't let the wife shoot it or you can kiss it goodbye along with your sig 556. LOL. Thanks for the comment buzz.
Last I heard Dragonskin had been rejected by the military because the ceramic discs didn't stay in place and gaps started showing up where bullets were able to penetrate because of the design flaw.
If you fire enough .22's at a certain spot in the armour, it will eventually penetrate. It's the same principle of cutting through jail bars using dental floss. The material keeps getting weaker every time you hit it in that spot, yet the impact force remains the same.
At 8:45 you say, Whether it's a beast, whether it's a human, whether it's... whatever the case may be. It's plenty powerful, trust me." What beasts have you shot? I've shot three deer with my five-seven and I was NOT impressed with the results.
It's definitely a fine pistol, and I'd love to buy one if the ammo was more available. Nice pistol isn't worth a penny if you can't find ammo for it though.
