Really like the notched framework idea, along wit the cross-framing, that probably helps avoid any wobbling as well. Thanks for the tip about the HF saw and roadbed. Not a train question but your floor looks gorgeous. Is that tile or really clean, new concrete?
I agree with you on the roadbed. It’s funny I’ve actually been using that foam stuff for about 10 years now and it has been excellent for sound deadening. I know the guy that sells it as well and he’s really great to work with. The layout is looking great. I’m looking forward to seeing it progress over the years
Very nice. You have a big basement. Mine is 1600+ square feet, but, unfortunately, has been subdivided, so I couldn't build the way that I really wanted to. I settled for a 24x18 L, seven foot four inches wide at the long end and nine foot at the short end. I like the way that you use that foam ballast, it looks like a solid product. I'm using tubular, so I have to go a slightly different way. Keep these updates coming, it should be interesting. An excellent video, for sure.
That’s a big debate for this layout. In the past i used Dennis Brennan’s better ballast. It’s good stuff, but it has a light green tinge mixed in that i didn’t care for. It didn’t represent the color ballast i see in my area very well. What i think I’m going to do is use a local rock quarry and buy some like i did for the tunnels you see in some of my videos. I’ll use Brennan’s black ballast for the yard area. Ground cover is another question for me since Brennans stopped selling some of the items they had in the past. I’ll have to look around for that.
Thanks Robert! Much appreciated. Some updates coming soon. With the summer weather I’ve been flying rc planes lately. Nice weather is so short here in the north east.
