My girlfriend is a respiratory therapist (think ventilators and COVID) and has talked about this very topic quite a bit. I'll be sure to show her this video, I'm positive she'll be delighted to see someone else talking about the potential lethality of aerosolized capsaicin. Her other pet peeve is the videos of people SMOKING these peppers through a water pipe. That can cause flash pulmonary edema and lead to death. It's a professional concern of hers with the rise of all the TikTok challenge videos out there.

I don't think so. And if there is a way to measure it, it waries SO much. There are people who can hear from your living room hometheathre system, if the wires are laying on the ground or are they hanging from the roof. They can hear if you use gold wires or copper. there are people who mix vines to make champange. Those people can pretty much taste what color of socks was the farmer wearing when looking at the seeds online. There are people who can take pepperspray straight to their face and not feel or react in the slightest. Individuality is so big factor when measuring minimums and maximums of human body, that NO is my answer. but ofc measurements and results can be normalised and that odd fraction of a percent can be ignored.

Yeah there is, obviously pure capsaicin is the literal limit I think it’s like 16 million scoville. But once you reach like 1 million you’re pretty much maxed out. Scoville is far from perfect in measuring spiciness, it’s exact definition is just how much you have to dilute the sample until you can’t taste any spiciness so it works well on the lower end of the spectrum but is increasingly meaningless the higher the rating gets. Doesn’t taste spicier just takes way more water to dilute it

Back in elementary school, i had a friend who ate a LOT of spices all the time. As in, they ground up peppers and stuff like that and ate it. They would also regularly drink hot sauce. Their entire family ate like this but they were all adults. My friend was gone for about a month (or so it felt at the time) and when he came back, he said he wasnt allowed to eat spicy food anymore because he had to have surgery to keep him alive. Showed the marks and everything. Teachers even mentioned it in passing.

And if applied to damaged skin, symptoms can be worse. This would all come from overuse, moderation is important of course.

Hi MatPat!! I’ve sent this on the last spicy food video last year, here’s my ideas. :D I think I’ve somewhat cracked the code with my love of desserts. Lemon juice coated ice cubes, or better yet a very lemony simple syrup plus condensed milk, with ice cubes that have lemon juice in them. The sugar would keep it from curdling, and a commenter said frozen chocolate would help, because it’s very cold like ice and once melted it’s viscous enough to evenly coat the tongue, like condensed milk, so combining that idea with lemon seems like it’d work. Or, lemon posset, a lemon dessert based on cream, sugar and lemon. 3 key things, and this dessert is also very viscous. So lemon-condensed-milk-syrup, and maybe turned into a slushy, with ice-cubes that are spiked with lemon juice inside and a viscous, rich, lemony, dairy and heavily sweetened creamy dessert that can coat the mouth seems like a perfect combo, right? Or, if you’d like a savoury route, try experimenting with ranch, and those kind of emulsified, rich sauces that can be refrigerated. Although considering how much of this you’d be having, I think the first option is safer.

Matpat, if you ever do that spicy yearly thing again, I’d suggest this list of chasers: 1. Hot/warm water (Your body will cool your hot mouth and therefore, cool the TRPV1s) 2. Cheese (Dairy and cold, there are recipes that combined spicy with cheese, try it) 3. Egg (Since your custard milkshake and mayo worked somewhat well…) 4. Condensed milk (I don’t know what this will do, but it’s dairy and viscous) 5. Tiramisu (With 1.8% alcohol the internet says, my question is how much of it will double the spice?) 6. You know that dairy-acidic-sweet mixture you said had water in it? Maybe that water will not effect the effectiveness of it.

As a former correctional officer, OSHA is wrong. Officers must go through the pepper spray for 2 reasons. 1: So that they don't panic when they are inevitably hit with the stuff (including aerosolized spray after using it themselves) 2: So that they understand the pain and are thus less likely to abuse it. Pepper spray and CS spray actually have formulas for how much can be safely used in an area. This number is even more important than you think because Ad-Seg, Death Row, and Psychiatric inmates often have insane pain threshholds. Sometimes it's meds, sometimes mental illness, and sometimes it's training. As for taste, Gumball truly was wrong. It tastes like stale hot sauce.
