I'm a selector at Hill and Markes in Amsterdam, NY... we have a much better system... were paid hourly and the supervisors actually step in to check all the pallets set down on the dock.. instead of the selectors putting stickers on themselves... easily thwarts errors and allows selectors to work much quicker... Also, thank god we have an automated pallet wrapper... I could not wrap pallets by hand like that all the time... I get dizzy easily

Just don't be intimidated by making Your numbers at first. The company will be most impressed by a lack of damaged product and a low error ratio. The numbers will come as You get used to the Job. The most important thing is be respectful to the guys who already work there. It's actually a pretty social job. Other things like comfortable safety shoes, and bending properly will help You. Other than that there's no real experience needed! FLANAGAN FOODSERVICE wishes You luck!

Ha :), I love the blunt honesty in this video. You really do have to want to do this type of work. I work for a Walmart DC. Order-filled for a year and a half. Picked anywhere from 1700-2200 cases a night in temps from 40-100+ degrees. One trip (meaning two pallets on a double-jack) could be between 300 to 400 cases if you where to go down the canned food aisles. Don't know about other warehouses, but we moved MUCH quicker than the people in this video. Had to. Fast-paced walk the whole 10 hours. No stops except for break. Even now, as a truck-loader, much quicker.

I make 1,200-1,500 a week! After taxes. This Job is for the athletic type. I personally find the job fun and challenging. I help develop other guys around me into more efficient selectors. Making us a stronger unit. Yes i have a higher education. Multiple trades in the construction field. But this is the type of work i enjoy the most. @25mfd
@25mfd 5 лет назад
the definition of layoff is not enough work for workers to do. you could quit or be fired from a job that is swimming in work. the claim of we "never had a layoff" is a clear distortion of the truth. while they may have never had a layoff, it's clear that that they do have a employee retention problem due to the type of work performed.

My buddy was telling me about a guy that's making $42/hr based on productivity getting paid $1700 WEEKLY! He took a picture of the pay stub and showed me. I couldn't believe it.

Wow, I know this video is 4 years old, but there are several problems I see with this. First Off, that warehouse is very disorganized, pallet piles everywhere, second off, the company could make much more money by going paperless and using headsets. Third, those front-end riders are slow and old... And not paying per hour? Lame. I started off full time at 18.00 an hour at Supervalu, we don't get docked pay for picking wrong cases, and the pay caps at 25.00 (with incentive pay and as much time-and-a-half OT as you want on Sunday's, up to 8 hours OT.) I know the warehouse I'm at isn't the best, but it's soooo much better than this one. And no, this isn't the hardest job out there. It's relatively easy for the most part once you get the hang of it.
@sethrobinson28
@sethrobinson28 9 лет назад
Yea i was thinking the same. I work for Jewel Distribution and there's a third-party group that operates in the same warehouse and they do all that paid piece bs and I guess docked pay too.

I worked at a place called gourmet food international…had a bunch of cheese and weird products there. Their system was one of the worst lol Stone Age picking. You had manual pallet jacks…a stack of papers to pick from..a line with a little bit of room where once you were done picking the items we had to scan them in one by one lol someone would grab it sticker it then someone scan it and then someone would put it on a pallet. It was so bad. Made are days go for like 14 hours…or more. Such a slow process. Hated that job.
@brandoncouch3162
@brandoncouch3162 2 года назад
But then I did work at a place that was fun..their system was pretty good..we picked with a scanner..grabbed 2 typed in 2 next product same thing..grab 3 type 3 next stop. Not the most efficient but not bad at all I liked it. Managers were cool and as long as you picked at a good pace and showed up to work they didn’t give a shit what you did there..we could eat on are riders lol and talk a bunch.

I work at Flanagan foodservive in Ontario, but If I had no experience and watched this video I would choose another job! This job is so easy it's crazy! The toughest part is stacking the pallets in the proper order but with a little time anybody who can touch their toes can do this job! I guess this video is realistic but this place seems miserable. FLANAGAN FOODSERVICE is family owned and FOODPRO sounds corporate and maybe that's the difference.

I just quit my selecting job because it was a mess at my job. I was working at an Orlando DC (Not Foodpro, it was somewhere else) and it was just a huge mess. Sweeping and bailing for the 2 weeks after orientation. Then they have the balls to say *okay you’re starting night shift good luck*. Bull fucking shit. So I actually spoke to the warehouse manager and told him I got zero training in the freezer or the produce and they’re wanting to dump me in night. So they gave me training, but the trainer didn’t teach me shit. He didn’t give me anything to use. Then after that debacle, I thought I could handle night shift in either area by myself. (I’m 18 so I never picked before). But haha. Never picked before+ Little to no training=Them bitching to me about my numbers each week. They literally had me in the office every week saying *oH YouR nUmbErS ArE HorRibUHL. BRIng tHeM uP oR youRe FiReD By MaY sEConD. Lmao. And better yet, listen to this, one day when I wasn’t working, I was injured so badly to the point I had to spend a day in the hospital and was told by the hospital. By certified medical doctors. To stay off my feet for the next 3 days. But they didn’t understand shit. They counted them as occurrences. I got *Oh If yOu gET AnOtHer OccuRrEnCE, yOuRe fiReD*. Lmao. It’s something called an injury that’s not my fault. But yet, I’m treated like it’s my fault and I had the control over it. I quit the next day they said that.

25 years here warehouse selector. 5 warehouses. Vons, Safeway, Publix, Win Dixie and Twin County Grocery. severe arthritis in my shoulder, hip is done had surgery and meniscus tear surgery. You'll have the body of a 75 year old man at 45 years old. Doesn't matter how great of shape your in. It beats joints down.

@@Michshnly Im 36 and ive been selecting and doing other labor intensive jobs for the past 15 years or so. I dont have any aches and pains. No stiffness. No back issues at all. The most important component to this type of work is Nutrition, rest, and recovery. But also, and this might sound crazy. But exercise is key. You have to keep the muscles strong in order to support your joints. You cant pick over 2000 cases a night and just go home and sleep for 10 hours. Most people are too tired to work out doing this type of work. They feel they're getting a paid gym membership already. But ive learned when i dont work out or eat right i feel terrible. Body aches and fatigue like you wouldn't believe. But joints usually ache because the skeletal muscles are weak and not properly pulling the tendons and ligaments which support the joints. Also a lot of selectors have very poor lifting techniques. Im 6'2 and i go under those bays like a midget! Ive trained other rookies on how to place their body during lifts. To use good posture and the right mechanics to ensure that you wont get an injury. Yes. This job will wear you down. But only if you're not taking care of yourself.

@@yishaithegift9953How many days you selecting? I did 8-9 hours on the floor speed walking non stop 33 years. Never loaded. I was a ex body builder from 27-35'ish in New Jersey. I work out all the time. Like i said. Your way young at 36. Give it 5-7 years then talk to me. Joints ware out like tires. That's a fact. Save your money and get into antoerh line of work.

@@Michshnly As of now i select 6 days a week. 9+ hours per night. I respect where you coming from. And ill consider your advice. I don't plan to be selecting in my 40's. I have bigger prospects in line. You mentioned you were a body builder. That probably had more of a negative effect on your joints than selecting. How much do you weigh or weighed when you selected?

@@yishaithegift9953 i/m 5' 11". Weight was 205. I was more ripped then a bloated guy. I was on the best shape of my life. Started selecting at 19 years old stopped at 52. Once i hit 45 years old issues came into play from leaping, stretching, lifting boxes, speed walking for 33 years. Meniscus Tears in both knees from leg getting stuck inna pallet holding boxes fell down. Both rotator cuffs in shoulders arthritis. Stretching/lifting boxes for years and years. Right knee bone on bone now from just worn out walking. Imagine playing professional basketball 8 hours a day for 33 years. Doesn't matter who you are or how great of shape your in. Yer joints will wear down like car tires to bald quick. If i was sitting behind a desk for 33 years i would have zero issues.
