I've just started a crazy around the world save where i start off with no coaching badges or professional experience and unemployed. The first team i got a job offer from after interviews was knattspyrnufélagið þróttur in the 2nd division. I now have to try and win the top league and top cup in this country.

Thanks for this great League Lowdown, enjoyed it. I had a long-term save in FM 21 with IBV, the club of my former idol Asgeir Sigurvinsson when I was a child. He won the German Bundesliga with VfB Stuttgart. This year, my first long-term save is with Vikungur Gota from the Faroer Islands, an even smaller country... I enjoy it.

If you can win a European trophy with an Icelandic club, then I think you've completed Football Manager! Good luck on that journeyman. Where have you been so far?

I had a career with Keflavik and i really enjoyed it. Only 22 championship matchs make easier to develop your team quickly. Of course the biggest challenge in Iceland is European competition. My best performance was a 3rd place in Champions League group behind Bayern and Monaco but before Valencia. Be sure i will go back in the island in a future career. Btw thanks for your videos Llama, very cool to watch. :)

Wow! What an adventure you had with Keflavik. Finishing ahead of Valencia is a huge achievement. How many years did it take before you were able to be so competitive?

@@FMLlama Obviously during the first seasons, we fight in the Champions League qualifying rounds and we are quickly transferred to the Europa League. You must keep trying. At least 5 seasons are necessary to hope to reach the group stages according to my experience.

I am a bulgarian KR fan, I even bought a jersey when I visited Iceland 2 yrs ago and I used to be a FM manager of KR for many years. In the beginning it's pretty tough due to the lack of funds and relatively good players. European competitions are tough as well because most of the teams are much better than your team. But after spending at least couple of seasons in Iceland, it gets better. Despite of the fact I am playing with Barcelona now, this video 'forced me' to start a new save with KR. Cheers!

Ah I’m into season 2 with IBV! I started in 2021 but managed to get them promoted with an unbeaten season. The ground alone is what got my attention, then discovering James played there was a bonus! Hoping to make Iceland a top 10 league one day! Could take me some time!

@@FMLlama haha don’t worry your pronounciations were better than most, i particularly liked the fact that you said the names in the Icelandic way, not just the english letters. Btw do you know anything about the club Vestri? (formerly named BÍ Bolungarvík) they’re the bigger club in my town, ahead of hörður who i’m pretty sure aren’t playable cause their lower down.

I remember watching Gunnlaugsson playing for Bolton. He looked amazing. I think he had a bad injury and wasn't able to reach the heights again. He turned up at my team at one point but wasn't the same player. I haven't managed in Iceland yet but I have been on holiday before and it is a stunning place to visit.

I remember hearing a stat when FH were the dominant force in Iceland that the attendances they were getting for home games in relation to the population of Iceland was the equivalent of Man Utd attracting 750,000 fans to Old Trafford. That's quite some support.

another great League lowdown, and another interesting country to try. Maybe my next save will be in Iceland or Norway as your Tromsdalen has greatly intriqued me to do a save in Norway also. Had always played in either Poland or Russia, but this year trying for the first time Scotland, playing as "Forfar" which start off in the 4th tier. I never heard of them, and do not know why I picked them other than thay are lower league team and wanting a challenge. Is that the "Rensie" skin you are using? (edit: should have read all the comments before I asked about the skin. I see geoffrey hawkins had already asked and you have confirmed that it is the Rensie skin, thank you)

@@FMLlama sounds good, look forward to that. I won't tell you who my team is, so as not to influence your vid (wink wink). I will say this, it is not 1 of the big boys, but it has lifted the Ekstraklasa twice, once in this century. No European glory though. They are struggling this year, near the relegation battle, only managing 2 draws in their last 5 matches, losing their last 3 in a row (and not close either) their last 2 matches being a 4-0 defeat and a 2-0 defeat. Their last victory (not counting cups) was on Sept. 26. So things are not so bright and cheery right now

Another idea is to take over Selfoss in the second division. Selfoss is the 3rd most populated town in Iceland, (technically 8th but 6 of them are part of reykjavik). Even though it is one of the most populated towns, they have never won anything.

As an Icelander i am kinda offended you said that 6 of our most populated towns are part of Reykjavík. I’m a resident of Kópavogur, the second most populated town after Reykavík.

Hello Icelandic kid here, i dont know if anyone cares but I can tell you that Icelandic people dont like KR bc they got to the top with money instead of history. And another thing you pronounce it one letter at a time. First you say cow without the w and then you say errrrr but you say it with confidence

Everything is great with a save based in Iceland. But.. the spelling and the names. It just drives me crazy. As a Swede they say we have quite common lingo. I dont understand a word.
