NFL Network ventures to Alaska to cover the story of the northern-most high school football team in America. Watch "Football Town: Barrow, Alaska" on NFL Network Tuesday, September 22nd at 9pm EST.
All these comments saying "my high school team could beat them"... does your high school have only 250 kids? The fact that they can field a team is impressive. The fact that they can win consistently is amazing.
Jonny Watts we have just over 1000 students pk-12 we have one of the best middle school football teams in our league and have a killer high school team
If I was an administrator in a place as rough as that, and the students asked for an extracurricular to stay interested in school, I'd put every dollar I could into those requests. Big props to the school's leadership for listening to their students 👍
Those 250 kids make more money in dividends than everyone in this comment section combined. If they pooled their resources together they could have so much more.
In August 35 f in very warm for Barrow Alaska but Anchorage should be 67 f in mid summer and is like Tampa Bay to the state and what is there Football season August to October weather
I feel for these people on extreme weather. I’m sure most southern people should. 😂 playing football in 115 degree heat with no wind and no clouds in Texas. These people work hard. I’d die up there and I’m sure they would die down here. Respect 💯
You'd be surprised at the number of black people living in Alaska. I saw a lot of black people in Fairbanks and Anchorage. Whites are running out of places to hide.
lmao that city cant even occupy enough people to come watch the game alone as to ask them play there. They better have enough hotels and enough food because food is scarce there 10 dollar for a gallon of milk. There aint no cows walking around you want some watermelon its 30 bucks for half a watermelon.
My old Highschool. I lived and graduated from Barrow Highschool. We didn’t have the football team back then. But I was the Cheerleader for our basketball team.
I loved this series. Been to Barrow too (now Utqiagvik, or I call it The U) it's a special place with not a lot of recreation, that blue turf is well-taken care of requiring maintenance due to being right on the windy rock beach next to the port, so playing football is a big deal because there's lots of talent in Alaska looking to get out and make a life for themselves outside of this dark cold corner up here. Also special to spend time getting to know the coach, the players, their families, and see how some people are up here. Thanks NFL Network! Please come back to Alaska.
@@Collinscody01 daaaaamn. Yeah my body would be so confused.....I would have to hang black sheets up around my windows in my bedroom for that month of light. My sleep schedule would be so jacked. I could do darkness for a month cause I'm a nocturnal person but I couldn't do light for longer then 12 hrs lol I could only imagine trying to get my 8 month old daughter to sleep. Cause she recognizes day and night.
Jake Malcolm 2 That would be out of the question since the cost for travel would far exceede what the could afford. Btw the actual Southern most high school team in America will be located somewhere in Hawaii.
Why am I so fascinated by this place(among other remote places)? Always catch myself watching videos about places like this whenever I see them mentioned in a video or I think about them.
@@joekhatib3798 It's just the lifestyle... so remote and different than anything I've ever experienced growing up in the suburbs of a highly populated area like Phoenix my whole life. It's just amazing to get their perspective and see how everything works over there and see how people are after growing up in such a harsh environment like that. Like yeah Phoenix is one of the hottest cities in the world but the amount of heat doesn't even remotely compare to the freezing cold, darkness, wilderness, isolation, etc that they experienced their whole lives. Yet at the same time it still feels a lot like an American town in many ways. That's just crazy to me.
It's immigration from years ago. The Asians immigrated to alaska, and down to Central and South America. They are native Americans, they just didnt tan because of the weather. Therefore they are eskimos.
Alaska surprisingly has a sizable Samoan community. I’m Samoan and I could pick out a lot of kids in this team that are definitely Samoan lol they often move for work on trawl fishing
I don't think the government has the funding plus it's not Alaska's focus, and if they did they would probably get domes for everyone(other football teams in Alaska)
Bass God barrow is the only place in the bush or real north that has a football team. But a dome would never happen. Barrow does not have nearly the money. As it is the football team is super expensive based on the fact the fly to all their games.
How insanely cool would it be if the genetic lottery just blessed them with an hugely talented kid on the football field. Having Clemson, Washington, Notre Dame, Alabama etc coming up on private jets to their little airport to see him.
Most people lose access to proper psychiatric care in such a small, poor village in the world. They let them think they're playing another team but we just let them have fun.
I feel bad for the people of barrow I wish I had the money to help them, make things cheaper by importing indoor farming, creating new programs for the community, making an indoor football field for the students, bring new jobs, bring new opportunity, etc etc.
Noizu Tazuka if i was a million or billionaire i would too. I would help out Little Diomede out too by running water a some how we can do something with the trash. So they want put it in the ocean. I would try to get a green house for them. If only i was rich.
This season my football team had 16 players to start but after two a days or 4 hour practices of hell we started the season with 13 we went 5 and 2 we ended our season early because of all the injury’s we ended with 7 players
It’s very interesting about barrow high school football team of how they play in harsh cold weather … I’m wondering how can they keep these playing field warm so it don’t freeze or injure these players when playing in hard playing surface like that
The salaries in Barrow are about three times higher than the lower 48 states. And they have a lot of oil. Also, what that documentary doesn't say is they have a lot of essentials flown in from other places. They aren't all just living off the land. But the prices for everything is much higher due to their remoteness.

They totally need to get that field under a shelter man. There are some super simple yet extreme winter durable aerodynamic mini domes. Then they are totally set. And it's so doable even there. Why hasn't the town got together and make er happen?
I'm surprised that they're able to get enough kids every year to be able to field a football team. And traveling to other cities to play against other schools seems a lot harder then mainland schools who just get in a bus and drive 15 minutes to play ball.
