If you want to be able to use a new technique in a match you also have to train it with high tempo and in realistic situations. The exercise "fast to the back" will help you to work on your explosivness and agility towards the rear court in a game like situation.
-- Summary ------------------------------------------------------------------
The exercise is actually quite easy. A feeder plays a shot the the center of the court, and the other players plays the shuttle back to the feeder. Then the feeder plays a long net shot with the same shuttle two one of the sides. The worker plays it back again and then the feeder is lifting the shuttle to the rearcourt. Now the worker has to try to be explosive as possible and get under and behind the shuttle in the rearcourt.
You can use many variations for that exercise. Of course you can do it on both sides and with straight and cross lifts.
-- Additional tipps ------------------------------------------------------------------
The timing is a very important thing here and wait for the feeder to hit the lift before you actually turn you leg position and start. Otherwise the situation is not realistic anymore and you could just do normal multi shuttle feeding. A good idea is also to allow another net shot for the feeder, especially if he sees that the other player is moving back to early.

To make this exercise a bit harder you could make the lift random, playing pushes for as many times in a row as you want. Makes it more like an actual match where you don't know when the lift will come

more excellent straight talk and training tips. to be clear, as i understand tobias, he is not saying repetitive multi-shuttle feeding is not useful to build technique. he is saying you can't rely on that to integrate skills into your game. what he offers is a kind of transition from pure repetition to the rhythm of the game. i have found this method useful for many techniques. for example, alternate smashing to the coach's assistant and hitting drop shot (吊球) to your coach on one side, both of whom will return to you with high lifts . you may add drive (抽球)or 推, and net work (放网 or 搓球)-- sorry, i am china-trained and don't know the english terms for some of those. infinite variation is possible and can be tailored to your training goals

On point! Exercises like that can help to build a bridge between classic multi shuttle feeding and open exercises

Is there any reason why you are not lifting the shuttles to the backline completely?
@tobiaswadenka8435
@tobiaswadenka8435 4 года назад
When we filmed the exercise there was also a focus on a change of pace and starting as explosive as possible to the back to really put pressure on the opponent. That is only a good idea, when the lift of the opponent is too flat or not all the way to the back. When you want to focus just on the right footwork you can also lift it higher and all the way to the back.

@@tobiaswadenka8435 Ok understood. Thanks for the reply. Love the channel. Very informative and knowledgeable. Even if there are points I already know or aware of, watching them again just makes everything more clear! I have one question though which I cannot find the answer. I hope one day I will get the answer to it. I practice my 6 corner footwork a lot however I am rarely able to use it in matches exactly the way I practiced it. Why is that? Could it be that at my level 6 corner footwork isn't yet as relevant as let's say having a focused footwork from front to back in the middle?

Love your tutorials Tobias. I really need this workout. Is there a version of this particular workout one can do wishful a feeder? Especially at home?

I have a question would you apply the same footwork technique i.e. turn your hip faster if your opponent made an attacking clear and it's already over your head? In this case, would you let the birdie fall a bit and then do a sideways shuffle and/or a scissor kick to get under it? I hope this makes sense thank you for the tutorial amazing as always!
@tobiaswadenka8435
@tobiaswadenka8435 4 года назад
Depending on the time pressure it can make sense to change the footwork technique. Especially when you have very little time you get yourself in trouble if you turn the hip too much so a shuffle or cross behind with less hip turning can be the better solution =)

Hi Angel! I made a lot of different tutorials about footwork that should help you to cover the court. I also made a playlist that guide you through all important aspects. Part 1-3 cover the start, different footwork styles and landing techniques, in the other epsiodes i cover specific jumping and lunging techniques in the corners and exercises to practice them. You find the playlist with all videos here: ru-vid.com/group/PLrQI_kbNeQQk5-GyhFFAkOdpnWUQC_FgA

Can you tell me how to smash with small height
@tobiaswadenka8435
@tobiaswadenka8435 4 года назад
The principals for the smash stay the same (I cover them all in this video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HvAOMnoT3zQ.html) The problem for small players is, that they cannot really hit with a good angle so most small players tend to play longer rallies and move the opponent more

Where exactly does the explosiveness for the push back come from? Is it from the calf/ankle or more the thigh/leg to push whole body, etc?
@tobiaswadenka8435
@tobiaswadenka8435 4 года назад
Good question and I have to admit that I don't know the right answer here. There comes enegery from both parts (thigh and calf) I would say but if you compare players it seems to me that some use more thigh, some use more calf. I had a interessting talk with another coach a couple of weeks ago and he is expert for a quite new concept of coaching called action types. One point of that concept is, that there is no optimal way of moving for everybody but there are individual types, depending on your body and your personality. This here could be an example in my eyes. Some people can use more power from the lower legs, others with the upper part.
@chitung2277
@chitung2277 4 года назад
Yes, it does seem like a case of which works best for the player. It's hard to imagine its possible to push the whole body weight using just ankle power. I think the way to improve on this is do exercises suited for volleyball and some gym goers actually seems to specialise on doing high jumping exercises. There are many RU-vid videos on that. I think they tend to use their thigh muscles more because it's impossible to generate that much power using just ankles.
@chitung2277
@chitung2277 4 года назад
I am guessing it's harder for people to jump higher backwards because we tend to naturally jump forward, not backwards, because it's not practical and mainly we don't have eyes in the back of our heads yet. So that's probably why shuffling backwards may be more challenging than forward.
@chitung2277
@chitung2277 4 года назад
On that point, I noticed mostly rope skipping involves only calf muscles, so rope skipping may only be useful for warm up and split step explosiveness, not necessarily movement around the court
