My question is the same. How did you that? I am 39 divorced, no kids. After my divorce I never looked for any relationship as I wanted to heal from my past and now I am alone. I am quite used to this life but when I see my friends with their families and kids deep down I feel a void.

Recently, I saw a post from an old batchmate of mine in high school. She's doing really well, going places I can't imagine myself going. She really seems to be living the life she wants. For a moment, I felt envious. I started questioning my growth because I saw someone my age who seems to be doing better and achieving greater things than I am. But then I said out loud, "But that is not my dream. My dream is to save enough money to purchase a farm and live somewhere quiet and peaceful." You are right. We are all walking through different paths of life. There is no one way to live, and we shouldn't shackle ourselves trying to pursue dreams that aren't even ours.

I can relate. sometimes I will compare myself to my peers and think that I’m not doing enough. Or when people flaunt their new job or pay, I’m still in the same place. If it is the old me looking at myself today, I’d considered myself doing solid right now. It’s normal to feel the need to make an extreme progress but calm and quiet feels good right now.

As a woman of almost 56 I wish I could tell the younger me to stay in the moment to understand that if you have passion for something it will still take a lot of hard work and perseverance. To open every door and walk through and to not be afraid. To ignore the naysayers and move forward with Strength, knowing that, it really is better to have tried and failed than to not try at all. Above all, NOBODY but you can make your life happen. It’s easier to sit and complain and make excuses than it is to do the real work. Look back without regrets. Wanting to ask for help is a wise thing not something to be embarrassed about. I love my therapist and I love who I am as a mature woman. You will get to the other side but you must go through life’s journey first. I also tell my adult children …. We are spiritual beings having a human experience. 🙌🏻🍑🧡Lisa

“Living someone else's dream"...Can't help dropping a few comments when I see this line. I work in a communication start-up in Paris, and my everyday task is about posting all those beautiful and catchy things happening in "the most romantic city in the world", on multiple social media platforms. In another word, my "job" is to convince other people that grass is greener elsewhere and "you too, should pay a wonderful visit in this wonderful city -- AT LEAST ONCE IN YOUR LIFE", Which is ironically very against how I truly feel and want to spread as messages... How I truly feel is, life is not better elsewhere and we should stop projecting our fantasies on some faraway land. But I still can't figure out, what can we do, when all the businesses in the world are encouraging people to look at other people lifes, to sneer at contentment, to encourage people to constantly SHOWING, constantly LOOKING... Aren't everyone tired of that ?
@MalamaLife
@MalamaLife 2 года назад
I can relate to you and think about this a lot because I feel like I'm part of the problem. Am I promoting the message " life is better on Maui" by showing only the beautiful sides of Maui? That's not my intent, but I can see how it can affect people. I don't know what the solution is, but I'm sure if someone feels truly content with their lives, I don't think marketing or businesses can have much of an effect on them.
@ChristianaSenibo
@ChristianaSenibo 2 года назад
Such a real problem you pointed out. I guess the solution will be to show both the good and bad so that everyone has a balanced perspective. Not sure you can do that in your job but definitely in your own life. Because yes, those beautiful things are happening but so also are the not so beautiful things 💜

I came from a rather poor family. When I was in high school, some of my closest friends were going to take a summer trip to Europe, which included France as well. Our principal and one teacher were also going on that trip -- both men whom I admired and liked very much. It looked like a dream trip, but ... impossible for me. Still, I wanted to go. One day at school, one of my friends met with me and informed me that his grandmother had informed him that if I wanted to go, then she would pay for it. All she wanted in return was for me to write about my trip. I believe she likely held me in high regard not only because I was her grandson's friend, but also because he had expressed to her how talented he thought I was in writing/telling stories. My own dad wouldn't give me $5, much less thousands for a trip abroad. To him, all travel outside the US was a useless waste of money, and I was regularly abused and discouraged from my creative side. My principal, teacher, friends, and my friend's grandmother believed in me, however. There's so much more I can say about all of this, but the short of it for me is as you said: that trip changed my life and mind drastically, in ways that classroom education just can't. I'm still looking to exit from the rat race, but I am living in Japan, buying an old, traditional house outside the city with its own well and land, and always thoughtful about what I can do to live more honestly to who I really am. It hasn't been met with support from anyone in my family -- only negativity -- so we don't talk anymore. However, the friends I've made in Asia are tremendous and I know we'll be close for as long as we're breathing. I shudder to think what my life would've been like without that trip to Europe.

This video speaks to me a lot. I quit my job last 2016 due to anxiety and also due to the fact I just can't see myself being happy being in the position of my work superiors at that time. I was actually supposed to be promoted to a managerial position when I decided to quit because I knew that handling people and their work just isn't something I wanted to do. TBH until this day, there's still a part of me that feels that I just wasn't strong enough to deal with the pressures of being an adult. But at the same time, I'm also happier just pursuing a career in art. I'm not sure if I'll end up regretting this decision down the road but for now I do feel like I've achieved better peace of mind than before

Living in Hawaii can be hard sometimes bc of how expensive everything is. So many people such as myself (at one point) working job to job, not being happy with what we're doing and feeling the pressure to conform to a life of obedience to the work force. It often made me impulsively quit jobs. I say, if you're feeling stuck and want out, don't do what the next person is doing. Be relentless in pursuing what you want to do. We have this misconception that we must work long hours and stay at a job for years bc that's what is expected of us to do. No, not everyone wants the traditional path in life. It's only natural that people begin to think outside of the pen and pioneer a new path for those of us who are lost. Perhaps that person is you! But you wouldn't know if you're too busy conforming to a 9-5. Nothing wrong with a 9-5, but it's not for everyone! If you're not feeling what you're doing for a living, you must take care of yourself.

The timing of this video was so perfect because at times at 28 yrs old I find myself being so focused on finding exactly what my purpose is versus just enjoying the journey & I feel once we learn to let go and just enjoy doing what you love whatever that may be then I think we would eventually run into what were all put here to do and it will all make sense so thanks for the motivation Sophie as always & I hope you continue to have peace of mind & enjoy life because you don't only owe it to yourself but you deserve it

Loved the ending! “I don’t know what I’m doing”! Great line! Yes, when we don’t follow the rules of the society/family (in terms of what should we do with our life) we might have moments when we feel like we don’t know what we are doing, that’s because we have the freedom to do what we want, and after a life in “chains” when you free yourself feels weird, like you get lost in a forest at night, but there’s excitement as well, as you felt the need to break free then it mean that you’ll find your way in the forest, as the forest it’s your home! Hope this makes sense! Anyway deep inside we know perfectly well which way we want to go! Beautiful video Sophie! Xx

Hi Sophie 😊 - The illusion of happiness is a dangerous one that many if not all of us experience at some stage. Learning and gaining knowledge through active experiences as well as through books and other mediums are all important. We all learn in different ways for different things and discovering what that is for each of us is going to only benefit ourselves, others and the world. Self-awareness and having an authentic, open and honest conversation with ourselves will help guide us to our happiness. Reaching out and getting help along the way is also healthy and essential. Thank you as always for sharing and stay safe and well 💖👑

Hi Malama, I am from Vietnam, it is not able enough to let me have many chance to see or watch the world or the other sight to see the world around me. I have been in the situation you told that. I am 25 years old and now i am starting or preparing for the next chapter in my life. I tried to listen more about myself, my heart and attend more about the sight around me to go with the flow-life because i just want to be life with my own life... not with their expectation. Thanks a lot!! Take care!!

an old writer wrote in part: "it does not belong to man direct his own steps." The Greatest Teacher who ever lived said: "Happy are those conscious of their spiritual needs." When we understand what those words really mean, we begin to make decisions that bring us closer to a happier life now, with the prospect of everlasting happiness.
