Whether being “people pleasing” has been a part of your personality or you just don't want to disappoint others; after you have been betrayed, after your world has been flipped upside down, you may still feel a pull to be everything to everyone. To serve. To be there in all the ways. However, this journey is arduous, challenging, fraught with highs and lows, and like or not, to be successful, you will have to disappoint people along the way as you focus on yourself and your healing. It is also temporary.
It is ok to disappoint others, asking for grace, and hopefully receiving it in spades from people committed to being there for you however YOU NEED in this healing journey.
In this blog I wanted to share a story of how my “people pleasing” tendency came into the picture during my recovery and how I felt about it, how I navigated it, and ultimately where I went with it.
So if this is you, if this is something that you know to be true for yourself, that you struggle with; the idea of letting people down, I just want to encourage you to keep practicing. I hope this blog gives you insight, encourage, and some practical methods around disappointing others, as its OK!

“The Recovery Library gave me 24/7 support because I could be up at 3am and search for the topic I was struggling with. It also helped as a couple because we could investigate topics together so it wasn’t subjective. I trusted this information because it was from professionals who also had lived through and recovered from infidelity. Double credibility in my book.”

It's been 15 years since my wife cheated. I still haven't recovered. And I still can't trust any woman. If you find a man who doesn't trust, you find a man who once trusted too much. I'll never trust another person like I trusted her. It's something she robbed me of. It's something I can never get back.

Same here. My wife cheated 27 years ago and I've never completely trusted since.
