Football is a game of inches and scoring more points than your opponent. For USC to beat Penn St. this Saturday at the Coliseum, it's a simple equation; stop the Nittany Lions rushing attack and pass protect for Miller Moss so the Trojans offense can start acting like a Lincoln Riley offense. I explain all of this in the show's first segment.

My humble suggestion on how to beat PSU: catch the ball, tackle properly, hold your edge, force edge rushers back inside, use some mesh / shallow crosses in RPOs, don't fumble, don't stare down receivers, block on screens, don't guess the gap, stop forcing the ball, take what the defense gives you -- IOW cut down on the mental errors.

People aren't giving SC much of a chance because PSU has solid line play. USC does not, and it's difficult to scheme around it when your OT's can't hold up enough to let even intermediate pass plays develop. SC will also find it more difficult to run against Penn St. than the Gophers. DL isn't likely to get much pressure on Allar. Our head coach doesn't know it yet, but winning on the LOS is still important in football. Also, the bad tackling has re-appeared. That "can" be fixed if addressed in practice, but will it?

I feel the same way about the fans. As an Alumni I will always support my Trojans. I don’t like when they lose but will always be there cheering them on. It’s unfortunate that there are those that will jump ship and then get so angry when the rest of us are still cheering them on. You don’t have to be a fan but don’t rain on our parade.

USC needs Miller to make plays with his legs. Also, run defense needs to show up. The best ability is availability and Gentry needs to get stronger and play with better technique.

True fans come in all flavors - if you’ve been around a while (as I kid I cheered for Pat Haden & friends) - then you know sht happens and that sometimes our beloved SC football team is crap, mid, good or great - hard to tell about this team - all those turnovers cost them 2 games - not a championship team but likely could’ve been a playoff team - unlikely now

Marc We can talk all we want on x and Os and the Jimmy and the Joes . But until they learn how to win , the rest of it won’t matter as much . This starts with Riley . His play calling has been atrocious along with the game plan . In a turn of events this year compared to the last two years , Riley is putting undue pressure on a defense which is much better .This started with not getting any Ol in the transfer portal. I think it will take a perfect game in order for SC to win and so far this season they have not been able to produce one . The unfortunate prediction PS 31 SC 20 . Fight on !

Some interesting stats: USC has given up 8 sacks 58th in the nation: tied with Alabama 8 Iowa 8 Notre Dame 8 Louisville 8 Teams that have given up more: Utah 9 Ole Miss 11 Washington 11 Nebraska 12 Tennessee 10 Mizzou 10 USC is ranked 20th in passing offense ahead of: Georgia #22 Ohio State #23 Alabama #30 Arizona #31 Clemson #34 Tennessee #46 Red zone offense: USC #31 Miami #36 Penn State #36 Michigan #36 Ole miss #46 USC is #36 in total offense K-state #43 Iowa State #53 Statistically on offense the Trojans are slightly above middle of the pack in many offensive categories. Yet they don't look right. Im not sure this is just an OL thing. Some great teams have given up more sacks. USC is 1 spot about Oregon in passing offense and they look like a well oiled machine. The only thing I can think of is. Some guys are playing out of position, the wrong groupings are on the field at times or the scheme and play calling is off. The talent is breaking through at times (Thank God for Woody Marks) but they just seem like they are working too hard and when it counts they just cant produce the game winning drive.

It doesn’t look right because our QB can’t be mobile to keep plays alive and I don’t think a pocket passer is the type for Riley’s offense.. probably the last pocket passer I can remember having some success was Barkley. But if you look at all those teams that’s are listed they have mobile QBs, imagine if we had Milroe? This offense would be lethal

Yep, this is why I prefer college football to the pro game. There are exceptions but most of the time you can predict the pro games much easier. In college a team that shouldn't have a chance can beat a power team.

If Bowling Green can score 27 and UCLA can hold them to 87 yards rushing then there’s a chance USC can actually compete and win.. If Alabama can get beat by Vandy then USC can pull this off. It’s going to take a mistake free game, lineman need to step up, receivers need limit drops to none and LR needs time run the ball more than he likes to especially if the running game is averaging 7 yards a carry

We can try to be confident all we want, but I just don't see how.. We can't win on the road!! They'll beat Penn St and then go to Maryland and lose. When is the last time they won a road game?? Cal 50-49! That's it. No Eric Gentry and everything seems to fall apart..Why can't anyone else step up (Anthony Beavers), Reashon would of had a chance, but he wanted to redshirt..I shudder thinking of Abdul Carter coming off the edge against Paige..If LR is the master offensive guru that everyone says he is, can he PLEASE try some wrinkles and creativity on offense!! And please can Zachariah Branch wake the hell up and DO something!! We need you!! Do they have any pride and guts? Are they sick of being irrelevant and a nonfactor in the landscape of college football?? How long do we have to wait before we are good again?? We'll see if this the beginning of a 2002 (3-2), finished 11-2, 2016 (1-3), finished 10-3 season or just fade off into oblivion like all the other seasons..

If the O-line is tweaked with Manheim at guard we have chance. IF not we have ZERO chance. Elijah page and Mason Murphy WILL get toasted on the edge if some major tweaks are not implemented. I’m in LA for the game tomorrow (from Reno). Went to the bookstore to check out new gear and while driving around serendipitously drove by as Elijah Page crossed the street to practice. PSU has a balanced 450 YPG attack, while only allowing 220. ESPN Analytics says USC 58/100, but we probably have 2 chances in 10 of winning this game. Not a fair weather fan: season tix for 32 years, got my BS and PhD from USC. Just sick of over-promising and under-delivering coaches making us irrelevant for 16 straight years.
