Isaiah 53 - the forbidden chapter
CHALLENGE
Isaiah 53 is a monumental chapter of scripture, often called the forbidden chapter among Jews. Throughout all of Isaiah, the prophet prophecies of many things like destruction, freedom from bondage, and salvation. Chapter 53 specifically is when Isaiah prophecies of Christ. It is left out of the Jewish Torah, because of “arguments and great confusion” in the synagogues. This confusion can mean the difference of being a Jew or a Christian Isaiah 53 is also well quoted by modern LDS apostles like Elder Holland. But Isaiah 53 is perhaps most famous for Handel’s Messiah which you all hear at Christmas.
TEACH
(Go to Isaiah 53 in Gospel Library app). Isaiah is a confusing book because Isaiah speaks in a sort of code that makes it hard to tell who he is referring to. To understand it, you should study it, rather than just read it. The Gospel Library app for your phone and tablet has great study tools, lets apply them to Isaiah 53. In this chapter, Isaiah is referring to someone using the pronoun ‘he.’ It is difficult to discern who ‘he’ is until verses 3 and 4 say he is:
“rejected of men; a man of sorrows” and he “hath borne our griefs” then verse 5 says he was “wounded for our transgressions,” and “with his striped we are healed.”
Now we can tell Isaiah is referring to Christ and we can use the red highlight tool every time Isaiah refers to Christ, as red is the standard for Christ. Using the highlight tool to discern who Isaiah is referring to in different parts of the book is crucial to understanding his timeless message.
THINK
We’ve just studied the most controversial chapter in Isaiah.
Some faiths refer to Isaiah as the fifth gospel, after Mathew mark luke and john. Why do you think that is?

Why are 14 books of the Bible not only hidden from Protestants but completely removed from Protestant Bibles today? Why are Protestant ministers, pastors, reverends, and missionaries hiding the truth? Why do these same Protestant leaders praise the Septuagint for faithfully, honestly, and truly quoting from Holy Scripture as recorded in the Gospel, the Holy New Testament, with the words of Jesus himself and his apostles but remove these 14 Books from the very same Septuagint? Why praise the Septuagint when it serves your secret agenda but hide the rest when it doesn't? What are the Protestants hiding?

It is not left out of the Jewish Scriptures. Isaiah not being Moses is of course listed with the prophets and not with the law. The Torah is only the Books of Moses. To say that it is not scripture if it is not in the Torah would be true of Samaritan doctrine but not of Jewish. But such a glaring error is to be expected of Mormons as Mormons and Samaritans are both from the tribe of Ephriam. It is not left out of the higher studies and there are even commentaries such as Rashi which expand upon it. Rashi interprets this to be about the general suffering of the Children of Israel. While it is true that some sects forbid those who have not had their approved version of it explained to them, as an inoculation against conversion to Christianity, it is a very much respected part of the Jewish Canon. www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/15984/jewish/Chapter-53.htm
