In this video I'll be changing the PTO shaft seal on a Ford 3000 tractor. Typically you wouldn't have to pull the shift fork like I did, but I didn't want to damage it. I would rather disassemble more than necessary than damage something trying to take a shortcut.

Welcome to the American Tradesmen Channel! First of all, we appreciate you taking your time to check out our content. We put a lot of thought into our channel before we ever made a single video. You're not going to hear profanity on our channel. What you will hear is a little humor and a little how-to. There's literally no telling what we'll be doing, we dabble in a little of everything. We can guarantee you will see plenty of tractors, bulldozers, excavators, trucks, diesel stuff, welding, and repair videos. There's a wide array of equipment showcased, anything from John Deere, International, Farmall, Ford, Komatsu, and the list goes on. Andy drives a Dodge 12 valve Cummins diesel, Matt is currently in a big block Chevy (but that will probably change). If this seems like stuff you're interested in, check us out! We would love to hear from you in the comments or over on our Facebook and Instagram pages. To keep up with the latest projects make sure to subscribe and click the notification bell. That late of a Ford, but no Sherman transmission??? There aren't a lot are here, but I've seen 2000, 3000, 5000 and 6000 models from the '60s and '70s. They all had high and low... Thanks for the smash your finger instructional video 😎

Did you have to engage the pto before removing the shaft?

I have a question do you have to remove the pto to replace the hydraulic filter.

If memory serves me correctly there are 2 filters, one can be done with only the top plate removed, the other requires too plate and PTO removal. If I’m incorrect maybe someone will correct me here and I definitely don’t want to send you in the wrong direction

@@AmericanTradesmen We redid the seals on the hydraulic piston and replaced tha filter witch tourn out to be a return filter. The pump is good bud the hydraulic doesen't work properly. We figured that the problem is the other filter since that is the "suction" filter.

What brand and or model number did you use to order the pto seal? I Lso have a cord 3000.

What were you doing there above the running board on the left side? I saw you removed the cover but couldn’t tell what you were doing. Was that what you referred to about not having to take that apart?
@johnsadler8637

And was that what caused you to take the pto out of gear?

Or was it a different video where the pto was disengaged and the forward piece dropped, requiring the grease and broomstick fix?

Thanks for the questions...I was removing an inspection plate to see what was preventing the shaft from coming out. As it turns out the collar that engages/disengages the PTO was the culprit. It was stuck hard. I removed the shift fork so I could basically use the shaft as its own slide hammer and not bend the fork in the process. This was one of our earlier videos and I've learned more about editing and showing what I'm actually doing, so sorry if any of this was confusing or not illustrated that well. Thanks again for your interest and watching!

Ahhh, that makes sense, and thanks for responding. Now, if the PTO lever works properly before we start this process, does that mean the collar is probably not going to stick? In other words, was your PTO responding to the lever properly beforehand? Or did it bind as a result of what was being done at the other end of the shaft? The reason I am asking is I have a 3rd-party front end loader with a main beam just outside the running board, and I’d have a ton of work to get things removed to work through that cover.

John The PTO worked fine, so it’s a 50/50 shot if it will be stuck or not. I wish I had better news for you!
