One tip I learned. After you've loosened the big nut take the belt off and spin the pulley rather than the fan to get the fan off and back on. Its much easier to control . Also holding your tounge just right helps a lot . Especially if you're a bit longer in tooth.
Just want to thank you for the video. This is the second time i needed it, on two different trucks. On the next one ill be a pro by then. Lol. The new truck is a 2000 f350 4x4 7.3 with less than 30k miles on it. A crazy find in my book.

good video , but let me say I put a piece of cardboard against the radiator , that fan & clutch is awkward to hold on to leaning over the grill & radiator , I also tied a length of good cord made a loop and secured it between the clutch & fan blade , I had some 1/8 in plate steel and mapped out a wrench using my calipers and 4 1/2 in angle grinder , I put the wrench on the nut at 9 o'clock , looking at the front of the engine tapped it twice with a short piece of pipe and a 20 oz hammer , it came right loose , putting it together you will see where the cord comes in handy to start that fine thread , I also replaced all the hoses on this 27 year old truck , I bought new , the rest was easy , good luck Frank T
I know you did this a year ago but if you don't wanna scuff and marr shit up in a vice keep a few strips of plywood nearby yet vice and use them like softeners. Thick old ratchet strap pieces would work too
I watched this as I my pump had the leak as well. One question, I noticed you got a replacement with a lifetime warranty. I have had bad results from replacement parts with a lifetime warranty from auto zone and advanced. It's been four years since this was posted. Have you had to replace the pump again or did you sell the truck? Two other family members has had short life issues with lifetime warranty products as well so I am not the only one.
This one has been good. You are correct though. I had a lifetime starter go quickly. I’ve heard horror stories from friends also. I think the quality of parts across the board has dropped considerably.
Mudford I haven’t got my new water pump in the mail yet so I just looked at a picture and I saw the threads on it. Dang! Looks like I’ll whip out the plasma cutter and make my own wrench.
Measured mine with a sliding caliper measuring tool (97 F250 HD Powerstroke 7.3) and it is 2 1/8" (54mm) between the outside of the bolts on the pulley. I was just being lazy so I thought I would just ask while I was searching the net. Now we know.
I've done this job twice. Both times with a pipe wrench because autozone fan clutch tool didn't fit. I've seen the fan nut taken off with an air chisel! Risky, but works.
