I was rooting for the Sport to make it up Python Pass. The camera really does it no justice. The Ladder is is a straight climb with very little camber, I wasn't that surprised when it made it. That was a fun shoot. My Bronco is pretty photogenic, unlike my mug. lol Thanks Ryan.
I traded my 2021 BS Big Bend in for the 2023 BS Badlands and I'm so glad I did. When all was said and done I got the Badlands for $36000 And I'm absolutely loving it. I wanted the 2 door Wildtrak they had on the lot until I saw the $63000 price tag. The BS is not a rock-crawling trail beast like its big brother the Bronco, but it holds its own pretty well within the limits it was designed for.
That was a awesome comparison. ld like to see the Bronco Sport against the 23 Compass Trailhawk since they upgraded it to the turbo motor. Do you still have your 22' Compass?
would love to see a modified SK forester out on your trails. 2" lift (10.7" clearence), plates, tyres and maybe the rear locker? the number of aftermarket offroad mods is one thing that subaru still has over the others for now.... but for how much longer with this baby bronco! such a cool car keep up the awesome reviews and comparisons! a very interesting comparison of the bronco and the bronco sport
Great video. Love the courses you developed; they really show the capabilities of the vehicles. Would love to see this test done in a stock 4Runner Off Road -not Pro. Asking for a friend.. ❤
Let me guess, both have the disastrous Ecoboost garbage engines? Ford should abandon these Ecoboost engines and just focus on naturally aspirated engines. Reliability sells cars not horsepower.
@@0HOON0 😂 a complete exaggeration and a lie when someone says Ecoboost are extremely reliable, more like extremely unreliable and will hurt your wallet with expensive repairs. If Ford really believes in their Ecoboost and ask them to increase their warranty on engines for at least 5 or 7 years 😂 Those crooks will never do that of course.
I am glad you did the climb. I have a 2023 Bronco Sport Badlands. I added some additional skid plates and sliders. I also added a 2.5 inch lift. I keep up with the Broncos in our club on 90% of what they do. And they mostly have the Sasquatch package. Being my own vehicle, i do not have the same concerns as you. People really underestimate this vehicle. With my add ons it still cost a lot less for more that people expect. Loved the episode.
@@0HOON0 245/65/17 is the max on this vehicle. The lift doesn't change clearance. The clearance is simply the wheel well size in the lower back side when turning or articulating.
That’s because people need to validate themselves by hyping up what they have compared to others. Its just funny to me cause those same people acknowledge most of these things are mall crawlers (even for them they probably commute more during the week than off road on the weekend). But whose smarter the one who spends $40k to off road on the weekend or $60k?
@Michael-ur5qb is it worse to hype up what you have or to demean someone because they don't have what you have? Alot of time people in a 6G Bronco will put down the Bronco Sport like a Wrangler person will to a Compass or Renegade driver. Who Cates what one spends or drives? WE all just wanna have fun with others.
This was an interesting comparison. I appreciated the thoroughness in testing the Bronco Sport multiple times and in acknowledging that the “4WD” and “lockers” on the Sport are not exactly what Ford wants you to believe. That full-size Bronco is beastly. I’d love to see a comparison of a Wrangler Rubicon against a Bronco with Sasquatch package, and also a comparison of that Bronco Sport against a Subaru Forester Wilderness too!
I have a Bronco Sport Badlands and its 🔥This thing will always surprise me! Its quick, comfortable, fuel efficient and offroad worthy for my taste! Planning to install a 2.5 lift and bigger tires! The only thing it needs its ground clearance and low down tires pressure.
@@WindsofChange2112 But, do you need a TRD to keep up with the Bronco Sport? I doubt it, most 4Runners come with A-Track which is pretty impressive. OTOH, A TRD Off Road can be had with KDSS, and then it is a whole new ball game, on road or off. Plus, Toyota reliability.
@BillyBobTup I just wasn't sure if I would get A 4runner is the SR5 OK or would I want the locker on the trd off road. I tend to over think things sometimes. I wasn't as keen on needing the kdss as much as wanting the locker. Proven Reliability would definitely go to the Toyota. But I get a lot if creature comforts and decent mileage. This is my entry into the whole off roading thing. So far it works. I have until 3 years and 36000 miles to decide if I stay with it or move to a different vehicle.
@ryanshaddix5697 Depending on where this new hobby/sport takes us it will either be a 2 door Bronco for fun or The 4runner for the space. They all have pros and cons. Besides who knows what the 4runner redesign will bring?
I would like to see the 4R TRD OR on the stock Dunlops challenge that. If it is anything like Capital Forest, it should walk up the same terrain. I would take the Bronco Sport Badlands with wheels and tires I was not concerned about damaging. As you say, it can tackle this stuff pretty good. And it is cheap to operate. 2.0L engine is sufficient. I would not choose the 1.5L. Curious how a Toyota Rav4 Hybrid with AT's or something grippier would cope with your trail system. Shy of GC being an issue.
That 2 door is the way to go for maximum potential off-roading with the Bronco, and having a guy who really knows his rig was a benefit because you didn't have to guess your way through the multiple set-ups and modes. Still, that Broco Sport would take me the places I want to go, even beyond into more challenging stuff. Nice to see Ford work to make Jeep owners sit up and take notice.
I wish there were a manufacture brave enough to at least offer a true locking center differential in these single speed AWD systems. I remember doing the math on the BS compared to the 1st gen Explorer and the numbers were REALLY close. Like within the margin of error for wheel torque 1st gear in the BS to 1st gear low range in the Explorer. The main problem is that the hang on PTO systems build up too much heat and can't handle sustained use. It wouldn't work with Ford's twin clutch RDU, but if they wanted to they could put a dog clutch or locking collar on the RDU so that when you go into "4WD" you are really truely in locked AWD mode, which would automatically increase its capability.
I believe the Jeep Cherokee has a locking center diff like you've alluded to here, but its the only one I know of. It would be great if it was more common. The old 90's RAV4s had true locking center diffs with no low range transfer case.
I have a 23’ Bronco Sport Badlands. I’ve found that putting it on Rock Crawl gets it over just about anything. I’ve done harder trail sections than the ladder in this video. With more aggressive tires it would have breezed past. I’m debating keeping this thing and putting some 245 mud terrain tires on, a 2.5 inch lift and calling it a day or just saving money on mods and trading it in for a 2 door big Bronco. I’m really split right now because I absolutely love this thing and it’s more than capable for 90% of my trail duty, but its biggest weakness by far is its lack of ground clearance. I obliterated my underbody and taco’d my exhaust on some big rocks when I was out overlanding with a big group earlier this year. We hit some real extreme trails and never once did my car not make it past an obstacle or any gatekeepers but I just took way too much damage and had to call it early. Ground clearance is pretty miserable on this thing and unfortunately 245’s is as big as it gets unless you start cutting up the fenders. I’m just here to defend the Bronco Sport because the thing is a serious machine!
Hey Ryan, would be great if you could get every Subaru crossover in their Touring trims and do comparatives and reviews. I know Forester is being updated so would be great once that updated model is available. Your viewerbase seems to love the Subaru stuff so would be cool for you to show them Subaru at its most luxurious.
Thanks for the comparison! I threw a set of BFG KO2s on my Bronco Sport Badlands and it's handled everything I've tried so far. I will say the Badlands vs the other trims is a huge difference - Having the 2.0L and the bigger suspension makes it feel like a totally different vehicle compared to the Big Bend and Outer Banks. I've never truly loved a vehicle before this one.
I enjoy my Bronco Sport Badlands as well. This video is of a Heritage Limited, which has the same hardware (lift, bigger engine, rear locker, skid plates, better tires) as the Badlands. I assume the Heritage trim would do much worse.
Yea, i am a fan of the Sport. Its Fords version of the LR2, but not as capable. I would love to see a comparison video of the Sport & LR2. 😁 Great Video Sir!
I had a Bronco Sport as a loaner while my truck was in the shop and I was actually surprised at how nice it was. For the money though I’d have a regular Bronco with a few less options and the manual transmission
That's what the wife thought till we did multiple test drives between the 2. Size, road and wind noise,maneuverability,.....as a daily driver there is no comparison. Ended up with a Badlands Sport and very happy with it. Some mud, lots of snow n ice.....been a great vehicle so far. The larger tire option,Falken wild peak at3s are an awesome tire,so good I'll probably put another set on when the time comes.
Ryan you do need to clarify that you have a Bronco Sport Heritage Limited. The Bronco Sport Heritage is based off the Big Bend with less performance features. The Heritage Limited is Badlands Based.
The two door Bronco is probably going to have a greater amount of its weight on the rear tires than the 4-door Bronco or a pickup. To me, it makes sense that it would be much better than any Ranger while offroad. I wouldn't be surprised if the two door wildtrak is better than any pickup. Lets be honest. Pickups were never the ideal offroader. They were built with some capabilities to reach the work site
It's basically the only crossover that can do the things it does without having a low gear. I think the reclimb would probably have been better with more aggressive tires.
Yes exactly, Honda could fix that, but it seems Honda company don't feel like, they almost there and keep screwing around with little upgrade pieces... Ford did really good on this one, even the rear vectoring axle pre closure with button helps showing it nicely on Car Question channel too
Every RU-vid idea on broncos keep comparing top trim vs top trim. But what about the more interesting comparison of poverty trim broncos (BB or BD bronco with the optioned rear lockers) compared with top end sport? A cheaper full size bronco vs a more expensive smaller sport would really create an interesting discussion on what true value and capability can be had on the market (and the uncomfortable question of why you would get a sport Badlands vs BD bronco with real lockers for similar pricing?)
@@trailrunnah8886 . I’ve seen the base bronco with all season tires vs the wrangler with AT tires- another fairly nonsensical poor comparison. The money build on the full sized bronco is getting 4L center diff and rear diff lockers for
Thank you for that comparison. I have a Bronco Sport and I've wondered if I would prefer the big Bronco. You've shown me that my purchase probably exceeds anything I'll be doing. Great stuff!
It switches between 2 and 4 auto. This is more of an awd system that uses standard braking to the wheels. Switching between GOAT modes changes this. You have to put it into neutral to switch it into 4WD high or low. So then it won't change as you go through the GOAT modes. Some will just be unavailable while in 4WD until you put it in neutral and switch it back yourself. Lockers are only available in 4WD low range.
Why would compare the wildtrak to the Bronco sport lol? Should at least have tye Bronco outer banks. 2 different types of vehicles. Whats next? Station wagon versus a dunp truck?
FYI, if you want the best mode for climbing, its rock mode. It doesnt matter if its sandy or muddy. Rock mode is the beast that crawls up nearly everything
Good video & comparison! Tip: if you can stop the traction control from a button, not by using a GOAT mode that allows for "more" wheel spin, maybe the electronics will not cut the power... worth to try :) I do this in my wimpy - 1.25 liters, 90 hp - Suzuki Ignis AllGrip and it got me places I didn't thought I'd get to, very steep climbs, low gear kind (my AWD Suzuki doesn't have low gears). Here from 5:57 minute ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5Egcd9s0f18.html
Worth noting: The "Subcompact" "Smaller" Bronco Sport has more interior passenger volume, more cargo volume and is within a fraction of an inch in both length and width as the "full-size" Bronco you are testing alongside it in this story.
What are your opinions on the reason for the failed ladder / pyhon pass on repeat runs. Is it fair to suspect the tyres. It's interesting that you didn't report the AWD clutch did not overheat.
Who buys Bronco for practical use,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, If you are a commuter and live by weekly paycheck, going point A to B, Get bronco sports If you have money and time, buy Bronco Wildtrak
The Bronco Sport Badlands equipped with Fallken A/T 3W is the best crossover suv. Toyota rav4 and Honda CRV are for city only. The Bronco goes everywhere. Also it has better seat and better infotainment plus many other options like 400w inverter, rear lamp, lot of 12v and usb plug, electric seat fot driver and passenger, stronger AGM battery. It do 5.9 sec 0-100km/h. I have it. The 2021 first year model and it is reliable. Look at the first year Toyota and Honda, it was bumpy. I will try to keep it for many many years. Don’t buy ev or hybrid. If you have accident with an elevtric vehicle they will ask you 60000$ for the battery change to scrap it because they cannot repair it and it is too complicated to replace. With a bronco no issues, you can change spark plug, belt, transmission and even an new engine with reasonable price. Don’t be caught in the ev scam. Insurance for ev are more expensive and the battery is dangerous in ev. The Bronco sport has a small easy to change and reliable battery AGM compatible with off road driving in all terrain and 60cm of water.
Could you test the NEW NISSAN TITAN PRO 4X...(I think it's a good truck) BUT no one seems to like it. (Why)? You get alot of bang for your buck and I'm sure it's cheaper then alot of other FULLY LOADED pick ups.....thank you.
To be fair to all full size Broncos, any model with Sasquatch can do the same. Any with rear locking differential will be close. I personally have a four door Wildtrack and I am completely happy with it.
I own a badlands and absolutely love it. My only concern won’t the wildtrack is the lack of a sta-bar disconnect would drive me crazy. The disconnecting sta-bar adds so much smoothness over rough terrain. Plus my worry with the wildtrak is the same as with my Badlands in Baja. Every time I’m out mobbing it with the the bronco just killing it, I end up behind a long line of jeeps going granny speed.
The Bronco in its current rendition is not a full size vehicle, even Ford lists it as a mid-size SUV. The full size was between 1977-1996. The 4 Door Bronco is about the same size as the 2022 Grand Cherokee short wheel base, just for size comparison.
Rear locker should still be engaged when it can, any time brake based control kicks in it limits momentum and power getting to the ground, instead of using the brakes an losing power to heat, using the clutches in the rear instead of brakes will work much better
Ryan - are you going to get a Bronco next time you need a truck-type vehicle? I’d actually love to see it compared to your Ranger, or even one of the bigger trucks you take out there sometimes.
I wonder how the Maverick Tremor will handle the new course. I have one on order, and I FINALLY have a build date, but after waiting for it for so long I started researching other vehicles and kept coming back to just getting a gently used 4Runner ORP for about the same price. I'd like to have a truck bed, but I don't know how much 'real world' capability I'd be leaving on the table. And the 4Runner does have that big back end with the seats down and the window rolled down, almost as useful as the Mav's small bed.
Tremor would have no advantage over this Bronco Sport in the video. It has a slightly longer wheelbase which has pros and cons but otherwise has the exact same mechanics.
I think the sport looks fine in general, but I hate what they did with the heritage editions. I don’t understand the appeal of them and doubt they’ll age well.
@@drivingsports Great! I feel with adequate momentum, it should be able to make it up, just don't stop to sight see half way up a rung of the ladder. 😊
so wait, you're saying I can buy a ford escape with admittedly cooler looking body panels...or for the same money I can buy a toyota 4runner trd off-road? lol, definitely not going to get suckered into buying the escape.
