Love the videos jimmy keep them rolling as a 20 plus Mercury marine master tech I really like the diag you do gives me a new look at some of the way I try to pass on my knowledge to the younger generation starting (if I can find one) that wants to work

Jim i have 12v and ground at fuel pump harness at tank. I plug in the fuel pump pigtail and no fuel pump. If i use another battery for power and ground and pump runs. 06 E350. 5.4

Make sure the fuel pump module can handle a load. Sometimes a meter will show surface voltage and ground that go away under load. I’ve seen a lot of bad pump control modules. Even systems that use a relay can have bad relay contacts that show similar symptoms.

Thanks for the response Jim. Will load test. Will swap out PCM relay. Already did FP relay. Will look at contacts too. Same power and ground at fuel pump pigtail with FPDM plugged in or bypassed so driver module is good. Weird lookups on PCM relay. Still looking for that relay. Thanks much

I have that “custom” wire harness on the van I’m working on as well. There is even a red wire that runs to the fuse box as well. I don’t know if it’s from factory or third party.

I think a lot of these vans have accessories added and the wiring isn't always great. They basically just wire them to get them working and down the road. I've seen some that bypassed relays rather then diagnose them also.

Thanks Sean. That wire was for an accessory that was removed at some point. I snipped it off before delivering the truck. I picked a winner for the Wakyme and i’m waiting to hear from them. 🤔

Fuel pump modules on rear crossmember rot from galvanic corrosion are one the most common problems with those

Yeah, we have done some, also seen custom wiring jobs and other issues. Even just a regular old bad fuel pump once in a while.

I'm having problems with the e350 dying and I believe it's the relay. I have a question. I only have one relay in the fuse box. Why would that be? Thanks for your awesome videos.

Some years have them under hood, the earlier ones have relays in the kick panels or under dash. A wiring diagram might show where yours is located.

@@JimmyMakingitwork my 97 does the same. They said it's the ICM (IGNITION CONTROL MODULE) but I don't know where to find it. 96 and under is easy to find, but no information where to find 97 & up

Thanks you! Yes, I swapped it out at the end of the video, mentioned it but didn’t film it. That was right before I tested the fuel pressure to he sure it wasn’t going to cause trouble soon after releasing the vehicle.

Crazy my 2006 e350 when I’m driving stalls I pull over wait 2 minutes then starts right back up again been driving me crazy wonder if I have the same issue sometimes I’m able to start it quickly and it’s starts up back on the road

Usually it will be fuel pump or pump module related. Could also be electrical so codes and then diagnosis after that.

M have a rear gas tank on a 350 Ford econo van I had to replace fuel pump it has three wire connected I need to know the color code at to hook up on the fuel pump

One will be a ground, one will have voltage for 2 seconds when the key is turned on pump power and one will have low voltage for the level sender. I use a volt meter to test them. For wire colors I’d need a VIN and possibly options list.

This video is from a couple of years back, but I believe it is a 07 with a 5.4 and nearly 180,000 miles. These vans are all very similar over the years.

Jimmy, I have 2001 E350 7.3 ( ambulance). I can start it and it runs for les than an hour and then suddenly turns off and will not fire up. I swap the fuel pump relay and starts. The original relay shows 30/40 amp. I replaced the relay and only runs for 10 min. What is the part # for the correct relay?

Hmmm, I wish I knew the part number for it Carlos. I usually get critical parts like that from the dealer. But once cry once that way. I’d also take a goo look at the wire connections and make sure they aren’t heat damaged.

Sooo what if I have a unit that’s running 48 percent at idle? Having an issue with a 2016 e450 6.8 that shuts off randomly. While driving. Can idle all day but sometimes as soon as you put it in gear it stalls?

@@JimmyMakingitwork zero codes, I was thinking throttle body is dirty. It is an ambulance so it does idle a lot. Checked the voltage at the battery as well as at the alternator and pushing 14 bolts. I think the batteries are brand new within a few weeks.

@jimmymakeitwork I have a 99 econoline bus 7.3 diesel that will start up fine and and drive but after driving about 10 minutes loses power. I can have the pedal to the floor and it wouldn’t go over 10, then stalled out in the middle of the road. I changed the icp sensor, I need help my man!

Sounds like either an exhaust restriction or fuel pressure issue most likely.

Think you are right about the fuel pressure. So if you were going to look for the culprit , what would you start with? Injectors?

@@nctubbs1990 I'm sure you fixed it by now but if these vans are like the trucks fuel pump set up there's 2 screens in the fuel pickup inside the tank recommended to clean every 100k
