This is an informative video on issues with your ignition switch. If you have to push all the way in and twist while pushing watch this video to fix it.
Holy cow I can't believe this worked 😂 I've been dreading fixing my car because according to other videos I watched I'd be spending anywhere from $50 to $160+, one dude's video said I would have to literally cut a bolt with a grinder to get the ignition assembly out 😱 and then you brilliantly explain how to use electric tape and a knife to fix the problem in minutes in your videeo. Thank you! My car is running again!
I did the push-in until I didn't work anymore. Changed the ignition switch (yes, I did) but no fix. Saw this video, popped out the cylinder -thing, tapes the end, VOILA!! It worked. On my way to work. Praise God and thank you, lady, for this video.
I just did this on my car. You are a LIFE SAVER. I feel like I can conquer the damn world. I'm not one to do anything like this but I felt empowered when I saw you do it with nails on!
I'd come across another video before this one that involved splicing wires on the opposite side of the column. I'm going to try your solution first and I'll let you know how it turns out. Okay, so the next day I tried it, and sure enough it worked perfectly! I did have to wipe off a little bit of grease from the cylinder but no big deal. I also realized that I did not have to remove the bottom covering of the steering column. Thank you so much.
My car hasn't started this easily in over a year I tried the ignition switch it didn't help at all returned it tried this and had instant success. Hardest part was getting the key to release but once that came out everything went smooth. Thank you so much!
I saw ur nails and this was only 14 mins long so I said I’m looking. You are an absolute lifesaver. We drove our dam escape until we couldn’t push the key in any harder! We did wat u did until we get the part. It worked!!!! Your awesome. Thank you so much.
You described my ignition problem perfectly. I followed your instructions to the letter. My ignition switch now works like new. Thank you for your help and consideration.
Thanks so much for the video I literally have a ping pong sized blister from trying to start it for work I actually had to call in but thanks to you I have it working every time 😊
lol I was thinking metal tape would work better than electrical tape, as I've done electrical tape and only lasted few turns. I'm about to go in the closet on my building and grab some hvac metal tape and try it out. Dealership already charged me 700 just to program ecm that someone put a wrong vin, turns out issue was abs module, so I'm over this car! Thanks for the video & comments.
FANTASTIC!! I was beginning to think I couldn't drive my 2008 Ford Escape anymore because it was not starting..........and it was getting progressively worse. I did repair trick with tape that you suggested and it works great. And it took maybe 20 minutes from start to finish. Thanks so much for solution.
2008 Escape. WOW WOW WOW You are the best I looked at some others before I found yours, Yours was so easy thank you so much. I was just about to call a tow truck to come get it and take it to the repair shop. 25 min from start to finish
Straight killed it! Good job FYI the reason the screws wouldn’t go in at the end is because you had the socket end in your hand ( backwards) but shit I ain’t hating you did a great job and I have the same issue with my escape so thank you 🙏
This video saved my lifffffe lol no lie!! I have a 2011 Ford Escape and was able to do it without taking bottom plastic part off. Just too part. Found that out when I didn't have right size rachet piece! Ty!!
Amazing! Having the same issue but in the earlier stage of failure. Not having to push it yet. That BUILT FORD TOUGH slogan is a joke. When it fails I will do the tape trick. TY so much!
Unfortunately it's a common problem on Ford's, failed ignition switch cylinder. I contacted Ford directly to see about recalls but there was no recall on my year of the Ford Escape's. I called the National Highway for Safety and reported my issue with them so they can document it for Ford to be aware, start recalling and fix our ignition switch cylinders.
Unfortunately, this is a common problem in Ford Escape. I was having the same issue with my 2011 Ford Escape. My Mechanic had to replace my ignition switch cylinder. It solved the problem. I was trying to do it myself like you did in your video but I was afraid I was going to deploy my airbag.
Thanks for posting this. I was struggling with the same problem on my 2010 Escape. Then I saw your video with the "tape" solution and it worked great! Thanks for saving me a bunch of money!
Not sure how long this fix will last, but it worked! I did not have to remove the bottom piece, just the covers at the top. Not sure if you thought of this hack, but it's brilliant! God bless you for posting!
Thank you sis for tech you today my Ford escape same problem me search on RU-vid this one prob so frst your video coming I see your video ofter me same work ofter my problem solve ❤️❤️❤️🇶🇦 God give you morest respect nd successful Amin 🌹
Great job explaining and showing every detail. You did a much better job than other videos I have seen. 👍👍👍👍 I may have to do this repair. Thank you for the video. Will let you know.
This actually worked. But disclaimer for anyone that does it. You need to reassemble everything before it will work. My shit wasn’t working; I thought my key had to be reprogrammed. Once I put it all back, including the plastic covers and screws, it started working.
I had this problem, I'd seen vids about it before but today it finally just wouldn't work anymore and I had to try it. First time The key wouldn't turn and I took it back out and called my mechanic for a suggestion but he apparently didn't understand what I was doing because he said it wouldn't ork. I concluded maybe i had too much extra tape so I took that off and replaced it with 2 narrow pre-cut strips. Cranked right up. I'm the least mechanical gal you'd ever meet s I'll state the cliche, if I can do it you can. BUT I'll add one tip: you don't actually need the bottom shell of the steering column to come off. I did mine by only removing the top.
No cap you dead...made that look easy and simple...I watched over 15 videos of people doing the most...my hands got dirty for nothing...thank you for this video...I already subscribed ❤️
Dang! Discovered this video late, Will give this a try, already spent so much changing the ignition control module, starter, battery etc…problem not solved. Hope this will do the trick for my 2012 ford escape
Thank you so so so much you are a lifesaver I followed your instructions and it worked!!! Im so thankful so saved me alot of dollars. Blessings and thank you again!!!
Thank you! Worked like a charm. This is definitely a temporary solution though. I did some more research and it seems to be the key cylinder pin that gets worn out (I was worried that it was the end that it gets inserted into). I have ordered a new cylinder and will replace it. This fix buys me time and peace of mind (it is my daughetr's car).
Thank you gurl! I appreciate this video and that you are a woman. So that is double appreciation with your nails on. 💅 you go gurl!! This male manchican
Wow, so tired of pushing so hard, replaced the electronic part on left side for $90, ready to buy $185 ignition module part. So one wrap did it, probably temporary, don't get it but it does work, crazy, thx. alot!!!!!
I cut a strip of aluminum from a soda can, and wrap it around once or twice, then hold it in place with some aluminum tape from Home Depot HVAC section.
Your video is such a life saver. I have been dealing with this issue for weeks. Took twenty minutes to fix. Thanks!! Also do you replace the tape if it stops working again ? Is it something you can repeat.
I did this...such a great DIY fix. However, when I did it I had my driver's side door open and the door alarm which goes off when you have the door open and the key in started its "ding, ding, ding...". I completed the fix, put everything together and it is still going off. Once I close the door, it stops. Anybody out there have an idea or fix? Let me know, please!!!
Donde consiguio usted la pieza o cual es el numero de la parte si la tiene de casualidad porque yo cambie toda la parte por otra del yunk yard lo soluciono por un tiempo pero lo empezo a hecer de nuevo muchas gracias
