Exposed ignition leads stopped them from starting ,on damp mornings.

No it was a cvh 1100 fitted to MK3 escorts 1100 valancia in fiestas very similar fireing sequence

@@jaggass just got in a bust up on FB over the past 2 days what engines were fitted mk3 escorts and MK2 fiestas a machanic thinks I have a very early cvh 1100 on carburettor with hydraulic lifters instead of push rods in my MK2 fiesta

The 1.1 is much louder than that. The tappets and valve clearances must be right.
