Red - 1989 Ford Escort, It is not real xr3i, only engine swapped. Originally it had 1.4 54kw engine. White - 1989 Ford Escort XR3i Big thanks for tow truck - / 102474548659495
Amazing Ford Escort!!!! In Brazil we had the XR3 with a Renault-Cleon based engine so-called CHT with 1.6L, making around 85hp, later on it was fitted with a Vw/Audi EA-827 1.8l with around 100hp, making the car more sporty and a better competitor to the Vw Gol GTi, and Chevrolet Kadett GSi. and with the new face-lifted version it had the 2.0 Vw Ea-827 with around 110hp. It's a great car!
Truly indestructible!I still have one in Silver Grey. No rust and passing the annual Technical Verification without problems. Greetings from Argentina 👍
In uk even the glass and tyres rusted on xr3i and all mk4 escorts infact every escort By the way sorry for the war just blame our politicians not the people
@@LKS98 Argentina is a humid country but with proper maintenance we managed to extend the useful life of the bodies of these classics that we love so much. Anyway, nostalgic greetings 👍
I remember being a child back in the late 90's and seeing those as almost brand-new sport cars. Here in Argentina it came with a 100HP 1.8 engine. It was quick even for the cabriolet(11 sec 0-100 kmh). Fun little buggers.
@@douro20 I dunno, you can turbo a CVH pretty easily. or if you want to you can go the ZVH route by mating the top half of a CVH to the bottom half of a zetec. you can end up with a Zetec based CVH turbo and boy some of the ZVH engines do fly. Love this vid though, im certain with some work it'll come back as a daily again.
That was a fun video to watch! The car started right up, and everything came together to get it back on the road. This car lives to see another day and a few more miles!
Excellent car, I had two, the first a 1985 XR3 1.6 manufactured in Brazil only to be exported to Germany, already with a sunroof and other extras for that market! I got it second-hand because it had been brought in for diplomatic use! Then in 1991 I had another XR3 but it was 1.8 with VW motorcycles which was an agreement between both brands and also made in Brazil, fully equipped and jaguar blue, with the new cross-spoke tires, it was a beauty and both were a pleasure to drive and demand!
I don't really like cars as I am a biker but watching this was so awe-inspiring - seeing that XR3i looking rather sad made me think it deserves to be brought back to life. Anything old with an engine deserves to live on as I just love nostalgia.
im on my 3rd ev, costs me heaps, as they just seem to self combust,,i thought only humans did that.. ausie.. ive had trail bikes, road bikes. too dangerous here now, the imports dont know the rules.. i do 4x4ing now. 62 f100 4x4, 452 FE, 82 bronco sas, 351c, 1975 highboy, 02 super duty tdi 4.2. 700nm.. i keep looking at bikes, but life says no, dont do it.. moonta, s.a. yorke peninsula, cheap houses, 380,k ausie , whats that, about 180k pound. 26. u.s. dollars, 5 billion yen..
What a cool car, here in Brazil we have the escort version and this model is available in several models and one of the most sporty and attractive models is the XR3 which includes the AP engine which was used in other cars such as the Volkswagen Gol, the use of a Volkswagen engine in a Ford car occurred here in Brazil through a combination of Ford and Volkswagen factories called auto-latina. Anyway, this car has a really cool and interesting story. Congratulations on rescuing this gem!
Seeing this makes me feel nostalgic in the 90s when I was a kid in England these would be everywhere good memories 😊. They were nice nippy little sports cars good for parts but unfortunately prone to rust I haven’t seen one on the road for a very long time 😢.
ah man that's cool, my mom's car is an escort xr3 1984 black dakar, I watch your videos because I love mechanics and your videos are very good, and you post an escort video, how cool! thanks for making my life happier😄
Super cool! It just took off without missing a beat. A good amount of power too. Man, the Escorts you guys got in Europe were so much better than the ones here in Canada...
These Escorts were one of the most loved and desired cars here in Brazil for a long time in the 90's. This one looks a lot like the last one my dad owned in his life, a few years before he passed away.
They were wildly popular and an object of desire in Brazil, back in the late 80's/early 90's. My mom had one '86 Escort, it had an 1.6L engine (not XR3 thou) and it ran on alcohol. I remember being a kid and loving the car. My mom also loved that car, but she sold in 1993.
Very beautiful and comfortable vehicle in its time! It was also very famous in South America and particularly in my country, Argentina. that vehicle in South America produced in Brazil.
The red one is a weird mixture: 1.6 engine with 105hp and front bumper from the XR3i, but the rest of the car seems to be a "Bravo" (rather basic special edition in Germany). But the stripped out white Escort on the other hand is an original XR3i.
The bravo was the same here in the UK. As you say the red one isn’t an XR3i unlike the white one. Wonder where the cloverleaf wheels went? Actually can’t remember if the MK4 had cloverleaf wheels or just the MK3
@@Mind-your-own-beeswax Oh...i don't remember either. I only know for sure that the Mk4 XR3i came as standard with hubcaps (designed like a telephone dial, painted in white) or with optional alloys (kind of cross-spoke). I think maybe the cloverleaf alloys ended with the Mk3.
@@Mind-your-own-beeswax it was just the mk3 that had cloverleaf the mk4 had a lattice spoke rim like sapphire cosworth. Think there was another type for the mk4 aswel but not 100%
Really like this channel giving old forgotten cars a second chance. I remember I Had one of these in 1998 though it had the excellent CVH 8v lump + bosch monotonic injection red pipes and all not the efi unit it cost me £250 and scrapped it for £75. Oh I wish I kept it and stored it as many of my old cars capri's fiesta XR2 nova SR's list goes on. I'd need a small mortgage to own one now.
Totally agree buddie I had a 83 metro Turbo in the mid 80s. I've seen nice examples go for 15grand now lol absolutely staggering considering you couldn't give them away back then.
Yes but I think of all my "moves" over those 30 years; (not even counting in-state moves!) Florida-Georgia-Florida-Alabama-Florida. At most I had to move 3 cars for one of those and that meant buying 2 one-way airplane tickets. At one home I had a 4-car garage and at the worst a 1-car car-port. But I hope you see my point. *Just storing a car for 30 years is not an easy prospect!*
Спасибо за видео! Машинка порадовала довольно быстрым стартом, даже движок разбирать не пришлось:) Если не секрет, что дальше с этими машинами происходит?
10:30 I had similar issue with floating engine work... It was playing from idle up to 4k rpm...turned to be burned intake manifold gasket. Fixed after replacing it
I'll be honest, after watching your fantastic revival videos of various long abandoned 80s Japanese motors conpared to this Escort, it's reminded me why I prefer old school Japanese motors! The Escort doesn't seem very refined in contrast, and the sound of a CVH engine remains pretty agricultural.
Xr3i is the second or third car I drove on my own when I was 15 or 16. 2-3 before licence. Newly purchased in Germany, I think Munich. He had a webasto and a timer. I think 105 horsepower
My father had 1.4i, was running great, but purchased in Hamburg, rotten to the bone in few years, whole rear end. My was 1992 CLX, I loved it, very peppy and really nice car. Are you planning to fit that motor in white?
I have been waiting for thus Escort for a year I've got the same, but not XR, owning for a year Once left it for 3 months, came back, put the battery and it rolls)))
