So a while back I asked for advice about my coolant leaking and wanted to let you know what happened. There was a crack in the thermostat which had to be replaced. Runs perfectly now and I thank you all for your experience & knowledge.
"Erraughaaaeeeeearghaaugheee" Coworkers: "Brian must be draining antifreeze again..." Great video - I live in western Canada. We live and die by our block heaters. It's the only way to get oil moving when it's -40F/C.
"I have been one of your subscribers for a few years and, since you are familiar with Fords , I am curious will a Ford Fusion 17 inch rim fit on a 2005 Taurus Station Wagon, I want to upgrade to a better rim instead of the average 2005 style rims that were introduced in the Taurus during that year....I do most of my own maintenance since I bought it in 2017,and have been fixing it up and replacing all kinds of regular maintenance parts like alternator, starter and have upgraded to ceramic brakes, and replaced the belt tensioner, and I do my own oil changes, and transmission oil changes, and replaced spark plugs to iridium plugs, and new plug wires and replaced speakers, and so far so good, but I have more to do,and I have switched all lights, and interior lights to LEDs." Your videos have been very helpful, and,all I can say is you have been very knowledgeable, in teaching me how to do maintenance on my Ford's I have a 1993 Mazda Navajo,(Ford Explorer) that I am also restoring, and a 1994 Ford Ranger but, being that I used to help run a Body Shop in the 80s in Kansas,I am trying to do something with the rims that I have an eye on, that would look good on the Taurus but I want to keep the Ford style but, have it look different, that's all." Inventive minds create great results,Thanks"
I recently purchased a 2001 ford expedition, I had planned the block heater install around the time I was going to flush the coolant before winter. So that worked out
I put a 600w Kat's block heater in the '00 4.3V6 block I installed in a '89 S10 Blazer. That worked fantastic. Had warm air out the vents immediately. I had a carburetor on that one, so that helped on those below zero mornings (never failed to start with the manual choke when away from power - just made it warm up 100x faster). Made my wife happy! She does just shy of 70 miles a day commuting, and is perpetually cold ... even in summer sometimes. 😂
Thanks for another great video ! Because of channels like this I have never spent a single dime paying mechanics on repairs or maintenance. And if I did have to pay someone I wouldn't hesitate for a second bringing my Truck to you.
Hello bro, Just want to say that I find you an outstanding mechanic and I enjoy your videos. Thank you so much for all you do and please never stop posting your videos because I find them very educational. TommyBoy.
Ford had a cooling system bypass recall on 96-98 Taurus and sable 2v 3.0 motors. Had to remove freeze plugs on a bunch of motors in an attempt to clean out all the rust crap in those blocks. As I recall, lots o f those frost plugs were mostly rusted through from the inside. That coolant looked like muddy water. We had to water flush, that motor, followed by an acid flush as part of the recall, along with the install of a head bypass hose and restriction orifice. Those were the dirtiest cooling systems I ever encountered
Another great video! Damn, I could never live where cars rust apart like this. (Off topic, but the rust underneath is discouraging) I’m So Cal, we have undersides that look like new 20 years later)
Agreed! I live in San Diego and was amazed at how much rust and corrosion is on that truck. I have an 85 Nissan pickup with absolutely no rust on it. Thanks again for another great video, Brian.
This seems like a good time to stick a garden house some where and flush the system with that freeze plug out. Great video! I always wondered if this could be done.
Your directions were clear and helpful. I do wish, tho, that you had been clearer on how to properly burb the system. Too many times I've heard warnings about the 50 shades of internal damage without properly burping, but then no shows and explains how and what causes IMproper burping.
WOW~!!! "Get in there and clean it up really well." Well~!!!! Not the word good~!!!! Somebody was paying attention in high school~!! Kudos~!!! You like the Oring seal better than the press-fit with locktite 609??
I've never seen a truck rusted that bad to not be that old...y'all got it bad up there..WOW !! Thanks for sharing anyway..see you on the next one. Cheers friend 🍻🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you for the helpful video! I just bought one of your hoodies for a friend of mine. He needed a black hoodie for the gym and yours looked cool. Thanks again for making these helpful videos!
Let me start off by saying I live in Florida and have lived in Florida my whole life I know about block heaters in diesel motors but this is the 1st time I ever heard they actually used them in gas motors as well lol
word of caution when replacing existing block heaters (they will eventually corrode and fail)... there is nothing stopping the nut from coming off when you back the bolt out, so don't back the bolt out too far. I lost a block heater nut into my cummins. It hasn't caused any problems but not something you want to do if you can help it.
What happens if a mechanic does a rush job (out of customers view) knocking the freeze plug into the block, and leaves it there after installing the block heater?
You can see at 12:47 a chunk of metal fall inside the block😬. The bolt design on the heater is a toggle bolt, if someone is wondering (electricians use them). I would also probably put a thin layer of high temp gasket maker around the edge for added peace of mind.
Wow -- so glad I'm not in the rust belt. What's the average age of cars/trucks there? By the time the car note is paid, it's time for a new one. I happily have 255,000 rust free miles on my '03 Expedition.
A Lady's foot and a pair of Vice Grips if required, works much easier to remove the freeze plug. Punch a hole in the freeze plug with the pointy end of the Lady's foot, then use the claw side to leverage the freeze plug out. If you have a problem with getting the plug, use the Vice Grips. Surprised you don't use a vacuum coolant system bleeder to install the coolant and purge the air on re-installation of the coolant.
I have installed 2 of these, same brand, torqued perfectly. After the engine gets to temp it pushes out a few mm and leaks. Not sure what to do now, maybe just plug it with a regular block plug? Any other ideas?
Hello, I know this isn't related to this video, I'm a big fan of your posts and I think you may have a better idea on this than anyone else I could ask. I recently got a 2013 edge limited with 60,000km. When you manual start (push start) the HVAC blower blows on full blast and the sync screen is black meanwhile on the right gauge cluster display it says "temporarily lost connection with touch screen". One you hit the power button on the stereo the screen turns on and everything works as normal. When you remote start the vehicle the screen stays black, no HVAC at all, no heated seats, nothing. And yes in the instrument panel all remote settings are set to auto and it is -20°C here. Also noticed when you open the car door when it is off the sync screen doesn't like off. It's like it's not getting a power signal without manually turning it on. Also not sure if this affects anything but the door keypad also doesn't work, I think the 7/8 button is stuck in as all keys are unresponsive and don't light up the keypad except for the 9/0 key which by pressing it, it will lock the doors without even hitting the 7/8 key. I've been trying to use forscan to figure out the issue but I only find f150 or super duty forscan pages. Only DTC on forscan is on the HVAC Module and says lost connection with BCM. Code U0140
I remember when I was just starting to be a mechanic, I did a freeze plug on a Pontiac, and it came out easy. Inserting the new one, I just couldn't get it to work. Everytime I would get the plug started and try to tap it in, it would pop all the way into the water jacket. So then I'd insert another freeze plug, and the same thing, and then again. I think I had about 3 or maybe 4 freeze plugs inside the water jacket before I got one to stay where it was supposed to. Car never overheated or acted strange in any way, so I left it as it was.
I have an 07 F150 5.4. I have a slight vibration when is going into overdrive sometimes. I have to be turning a certain way it's almost impossible to recreate. It feels like those little bumps on the side of the road when you run off the road it feels exactly like that for about a second and then it goes away as his changing gears. It almost never happens if I'm pulling a trailer. Only when the truck has no load does it do it mostly
Nothing to do with this video... Makuloco I have a 2013 f150 ecoboost, doesn’t rattle or have any problems to date.. Have used nothing but full synthetic oil since i got it at 28,000 miles i currently have 73,000 miles.. Should i swap out timing chain or leave it alone..
HI BRIAN ! I HAVE A 1999 F150 XLT 4.6L EXTENDED CAB 4×4 . I GUESS IT'S THE HIGH PRESSURE SIDE HEATER HOSE WAS SLOWLY DRIPPING / NOT ENOUGH TO SHOW UP UNDER THE TRUCK BUT ENOUGH TO FILL THE #4 CYLINDER SPARK PLUG AREA & I GUESS INTERRUPT THE SPARK ? ANYWAY WE TRYED TO TAKE IT OFF / WATCHED A COUPLE RU-vid VIDEOS TO SEE HOW IT IS TAKEN OFF . TRIED PRESSING THE TABS & PUSH THE HOSE TOWARDS THE FIREWALL & THEN PULL THE HOSE BACK TOWARDS ME . WHEN I DID THAT THE PLASTIC SECTION SEPARATE FROM THE RUBBER HOSE PART & STAYED ON THE HEATER CORE NIPPLE ? IS THE HEATER CORE NIPPLE MADE OUT OF METAL ? COULD I USE A RAZOR BLADE KNIFE TO CUT THE PLASTIC & PUT THE NEW FORD HEATER HOSE ON ? WHY DIDN'T FORD USE REGULAR HOSE CLAMPS ! IT WOULD OF BEEN FIXED ALREADY. AND FOR THE PEANUT GALLERY ALL MAKES & MODELS DO THE SAME DUMB -_-_ ! HOPE TO HEAR BACK FROM YOU . BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! GOD BE WITH YOU ALWAYS ! LUV YOUR VIDEOS ! THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME / US TAG A LONG WITH YOU ON YOUR VIDEOS ! ENJOYED !
I will say this! Just tried to install one using a regular 8mm allen wrench. Good luck! Buy the 10 dollar set and save yourself from trying to do this by hand. You can’t! That plug is “in” there!!
real safe although i'd plug it into a ground fault protected circuit. on rare occasion they can short to the block energising the truck giving you a zap
I have been wanting to do this on my 2004 F-250 6.0L. I looked to see if it was the same setup as F-150. I found that there was a block heater already installed! Do all the F-250 Super Duty’s have them pre-installed?
