@bobt8578 4 года назад
@James Masn you are definitely correct but i would like to add one reason for the lack of knowledge. Mechanics do not get paid enough. Anyone who has the mental capacity to do this kind of work could easily go into another industry. They will make more, won't have to take out a mortgage for tools, and won't destroy their body in the process. So from what I see everyone is going to enjoy the shortage of skilled mechanics for the foreseeable future.
@Mr_Joseph979
@Mr_Joseph979 4 года назад
@@bobt8578 you are exactly correct! Between the cost of tools, advanced brand specific education, getting paid book time, shop/dealership corruption and a host of other things is why I didn't stay working as an auto mechanic. Many car guys also won't get to be exposed to but so many scenarios and the lack of good pay won't justify staying on the job. There is already a shortage of mechanics in this field because of the reasons I've stated. Sad

Joseph Miller it’s not only that you can only learn mostly through doing and Brian does a lot of these so it’s easy for him. He knew right away it wasn’t from diagnosing it was due to experience and doing. These things need to roll in the shop for most unless the employer sends techs for training

Brian, my 2005 F-150 had misfire codes also. My scan tool was just a basic Actron. Nothing like what you have. I replaced plugs and coil packs and it didn't help. this truck had 201800, miles on it. So I took it to the Ford Dealer and asked them to hook it up to there computer and check it out. This truck's engine had oil changes every 3000 miles, give or take 500 miles or so. They said I needed a new engine! I believed them so ten thousand dollars later and four weeks I was back on the road. After watching most of your ford videos' I believe the problem was roller followers! I'll never believe a dealer again. You are the Man! You've also helped me do other repairs on this truck. Next week I'll be replacing a rear ABS sensor, fuel pump module, and oil change on rear pumpkin. Please keep up the Great videos I watch them all the time.

Just caught this video and gotta say I'm impressed and humbled at the knowledge you professional technicians process and how willingly you share with us. I've been chasing lean codes and misfires on my 00 excursion with the 6.8. A little history on the vehicle, low miles only 60k but it was ran without a catalytic converter for unknown amount of time. The cat was stolen and previous owner never replaced. I purchased the vehicle and installed the new catalytic converter. So far I've also installed refurbished oe injectors, purge valve, vent valve, pcv valve, maf sensor, Motorcraft coils and sparkplugs and changed several deteriorated hoses, fuel and air filters. About the only thing I haven't changed are my oxygen sensors. Any insight or route you can guide me towards... any assistance is greatly appreciated. Also almost forgot to mention the vehicle smokes heavily usually when cold and exhaust smells a bit rich of gas. Thank you sir again, any Input is greatly appreciated.

One of the main reasons I got out of the business...too many hack garages that replace parts, give great mechanics a bad name!

I've come upon this same situation about 3 times. Have also seen it on cylinder 3. Replaced cam, timing set and roller rockers. Just had another 07 three valve come in 3 days ago. Looks at cam error pids and seen the common right bank that always goes out at -14. Inspected with bore scope into oil fill and found the common right chain guide gone due to blown gasket on tensioner. Timing set definitely needed. Removed the easier left cover and found the left guide broken. The engine was oil starved for many seasons. Everything was nasty under the valve cover. My recommendation was getting a remanufactured engine. Great video for those people that don't understand Fords. Thanks

Awesome! I'm going to do my timing chains, VCT, Phasers, water pump, Melling Oil Pump, and a full set of roller followers this weekend! I have 180k on my '06 and when I inquired at my local garage they said I needed a new engine because the "Rear" timing chains on this engine required the engine to be pulled anyway. Wow! I certainly wasn't going to let them work on my truck! Thanks to your inspiration, I think this is going to go well!

Once again you show how important proper diagnosis is. I know the vehicle owner spent hundreds of dollars for nothing but in the end you will fix it and it will be just fine.

Wow, thank you. As you know videos like these are amazingly valuable to people, even years after it’s made! I wish I had a way to contact you for a few short questions about my “misfires” on my 2014 E-350. Anyway, amazing video and I learned a lot! Thanks Again.

Subscribed not to long ago. Was a ford dealer tech for 17 years. Left just before the ecoboost. Went heavyduty. I see issues with for ford are still nonstop lol. Great to see someone like Brian trying to help ford owners save some money. Reasons I don't own a ford today haha. Sure takes me back when I was slugging away in the Ford shop, trying to make 100% efficiency numbers or better.

It's a real treat to watch a true professional at work. In an age where shortcuts rule the day, and incompetence often follows very closely, a technician like you is truly worth is there a weight in gold!

Great video. I’ve ran into this several times. I started pulling the injector rail up on that side and looking with my scope to see if one of the intake valves is not moving.

Great video, Brian. My neighbor has a truck with this engine in it. I'll have to let him know about this concern. I appreciate the information about the Forscan software, too. I have two Fords and will need this software to check up on them. Keep up the great work.
