Outstanding, clear, video, thank you! I changed the rear rotors on my 2007 F150 this weekend and damaged the parking brake pads when removing the rusted on rotors. They were original to the truck and had seen 16 Michigan winters. Your video will make installing new parking brakes a breeze!
i had bad shaking and pulsating in my truck rear end, mechanic confirmed it was rear rotors, i replaced rotors and brake pads, also had to do parking brake, i happy to say truck is breaking perfectrrly and your video was so helpful, thanks alot i followed it to the tee! my man!
Thank you I really appreciate this video. I'm a day guy and I enjoy working on my truck. I am a handy man but I have no former technical training except doing it myself or now you tube video from either another day guy or a trained mechanic, such as urself. Thx again.👍
This setup is the same as my 1998 lincoln navigator. HUGE help man! So I would imagine anyone reading through the comments 97-02 ford trucks would probably all be the same. Thanks again man, great content...subbed.
Good informative video. I did one wheel yesterday. I’ve got the same type of pin clips and appreciate you showing use of the round brake tool for compressing the clip and getting it on the pin. Thanks jpulley
My brake light was not on when I first realized I needed to replace these. For me while driving the truck would jerk. I thought the transmission might be going out. After some troubleshooting I realized that the little bit of ebrake I had left was stuck engaged. Even though it was metal on metal it definitely make the wheel not turn smoothly. I could have just removed the e-brakes altogether and that would have made the truck roll without jerking. Since My driveway is on a hill I decided I needed to replace the parking brake shoes. Since then I did get a ABS light come on but it has not changed the way it drives. If I were to smash the brakes hard they would probably lock up instead of pulsing like ABS supposed to. if I were you I would definitely remove the wheel and check if your parking brake is stuck.
You did a fabulous job videoing this start to finish. Wow!! What a job to tackle. I am wanting to replace pads and rotors on the back but read where sometimes the e-brake just falls out in pieces when you remove the rotor. Can you just ignore it if it does that? Can you even drive your truck to the parts store to get the parts you need? I think you are a champ for going after those. I was exhausted by the time you did just one side. lolol Oh but what a wonderful feeling knowing they are replaced and a job done right to boot. Thanks a whole lot....super video. Jesus bless.
Good video. I have a 2000 F150 and I hear it's the same setup. The previous owner eliminated the parking brake. I had to find an in depth video on the parts repair/replacement. The e-brake levers are missing but I wouldn't have known that without the video. Two questions. 1) The brake adjustment. Is there a clip/retainer to stop the cam from moving freely? 2) Shouldn't you use a bit of brake grease on the contact points on the shoes where they touch the backing plate? I appreciate your video. No links were found in the description. Also if you don't have or want that Amazon caliper tool a C clamp will work just fine. I'm sure the Amazon tool makes life easier though. Good tutorial.
At 13:07 I'm adjusting downward to push the brakes outward. However if the drum was still on and you were accessing the sprocket through the hole in the back you would be rotating upward to moves the brakes out. The main thing to know that the if you were looking at it from the front of the truck counter clockwise will push the mechanism outward. Counter clockwise will draw it in.
@@jpulleywhat was said was clearly a mistake.... from the front of the truck looking to the back no matter what side you're on from outside the truck or underneath the truck clockwise = tighten
Do you mean you brake light on your dash? If so these trucks are notorious for having that light stuck on. It's a problem in the gauge cluster that causes it. These videos on YT about it.
If your pads are gone like mine were you will feel nothing when you press your parking brake pedal all the way to the floor. When I replaced my brake pads that tightened up the brake pedal. If there is something else wrong with your pedal or brake cables/lines you will have to address those item independently from what you see me do in this video.
I had something similar happen to me. I thought it was the transmission. I was jerking pretty hard. Turns out my parking brake was sticking. This lead to me doing this video to replace the parking brakes.
@@jpulley can we not just cut the braking line off and be done with it? dont really need it unless on a hill.whats the worst to happen if i cut the line?
I appreciate your video and it is well done, however I hate it when videographers add “magic“ to their videos. At 4:46, you added ‘video magic’ to your video where “This” suddenly comes out easily and without explanation. There is a cable on the back “This” that is very tricky to handle with a strong spring that needs to be released. I pushed the tabs as you explained, but did not show, and everything remained under tension. I am sure now at a point where I am struggling to figure out how to relieve the tension of that spring to get the, “This” out to clean it up. I know you struggled in the same manner manner as I am now, but chose not to show how you did it. Why not? If you are going to show your experience with stuff like this, please show all of your struggles, because we will be going through those same struggles, and it helps us to learn firsthand and then decide whether we want to tackle a job like this. Thank you for hearing me out. I do appreciate your video, and I want you to understand that. I am just making a suggestion that would be more helpful to all of us.
Yeah it was some trial and error on my end until I finally popped the cable out of the bracket once the cable was free on the bracket it gave me the slack I needed to get it off. When the cable popped free I was still in trial and error not knowing that would solve me problem. So I didn't have the camera running facing the back of the brake assembly. @ 6:30 I explain how how I pressed in the tabs and I was able to slip the cable through bracket. Thanks for the feedback, I will try to include more details about hiccups I have in the future.
