Definitely the Ram. It is much more practical for off-road use, overloading options, and even days-to-day driving. I suppose if I needed a bug-out truck while expecting a SHTF scenario, the FORD would be the choice. Do note that AEV has done a Ram 3500 for Expedition Overland. Go see that video - nice!
The AEV Prospector can come in many Ram trims. This just happens to be one of them. It comes in the 2500 diesel, 2500 Power Wagon Hemi, 3500, single cab, crew cab and mega cab. All depends on the donor vehicle. It also can be outfitted as the Prospector (37" tires) or Prospector XL (40" tires).
XL Prospector all day, retains more factory parts/geometry and more common/proven Cummins aftermarket and AEV footprint is spread out into other Jeep and GM trucks. All that will matter more when supply lines are truly SHTF for parts. You dont want some SEMA trainwreck 'build' to depend on.
Damn that’s tough one to choose, I’m not a fan of overland builds but I always go with Ram Cummins over the Powerstrokes but that 450 is a Beast. Ben Hardy killing the review as always 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I have one comment about what you said near the beginning of this video. I don’t know about the Goliath but there are plenty of people out there using the Prospector as it is intended. That would be a lot of money to pay for it to be a mall crawler when it’s not a luxury car. Sure people use Range Rovers and G Wagons for that but I don’t thing that will be the case with a Prospector XL.
Can’t off road the ford !! Way to heavy and under powered for its weight! Just looks good!! I’m taking the ram way more uses !! I like the AEV XXL prospector !!
This is not an apple to apple comparison. The Ford is totally tricked out with armor, lights, suspension and so much more. The Ram is pretty much stock. The Ram 2500 lines up with the Ford F250.
If you want off road, the AEV all the way. The Ford is a fantasy truck, as in Zombie apocalypse or WORL Larpers dream. I will take the AEV all day, add a air compressor and lockers.
No one is buying an AEV prospector to mall crawl. People will throw on a 6 inch lift and mall crawl. However no one is buying these vehicles to mall crawl. Thats like someone buying a Dodge demon to mall crawl
I know this is an older video but if you spent as much on the RAM with the AEV folks you'd have a much more aggressive truck. Taking the entry level AEV and a crazy more expensive Ford as comparisons is a bit disingenuous and not a fair comparison. Will the RAM be as crazy of a configuration as the Goliath, no, but the is so much more the AEV folks offer that isn't on the truck in this video. Both trucks are very cool but I'm all for the RAM as more practical.
I love both of these trucks but if I have to pick, I would still take my 2010 Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road D-4D diesel, SAS, 3.5 lift, 35's, fully locked and a few other goodies!! 👍👊
