I just purchased a 2016 F150 with a 5.0 from the original owner. The right side wheel bearing just got replaced before I took ownership. Should I plan on doing the left soon? Do they usually fail in pairs? The truck has 110,000 miles.
I wouldn't worry about it. For whatever reason they fail, it seems like it's always just one side. The other side could go another 50k+. My 14 F150 has 150k with both still original.
I changed mine yesterday on a 2019 f150 passenger side. It was back just like it came off. Whats indexing? Hope i didn't mess it up it seems to drive fine. Just wondering. Ty
If it rattles or grinds when driving then the IWE (integrated wheel end) is probably bad. It's bolted on the inside of the wheel knuckle. I use a vacuum gauge and apply vacuum to see if the IWE releases and the wheel can be spun freely without any noise.
Too much grease can cause the IWE to not function. If the factory grease is still in good shape there is no need to add any like on this one. If it's bone dry and rusty then it definitely needs grease installed but only coating everything, not packing it full.
