HFCM failure after 200,000 miles, 10,000 miles on WVO. Not sure if it's the 200,000 miles or 10,000 miles on the WVO.:) Replaced the pump and will continue to monitor.

GREAT RESEARCH.👍

My Amarok also had the hot return line fuel going back into the fuel filter. We have the opposite problem, diesel gets too hot and thins out in our summers, so I just rerouted the return to go direct to the tank.

Interesting, I was considering taking out that small thermostat and allowing most of the return fuel to heat the fuel, but decided against it for that exact problem.:) I'll have more control with the converted egr cooler and electrically heated pads for the filters.:) Thanks for watching.:)

Is there a way to completely bypass this pump or use a different external pump to keep the rite fuel pressure?

Yes I bypassed the pump and fuel pressures are perfect.:) Many Power Stroke guys replace it with a Fass or Air Dog pumps. Thanks for watching.:)

That pump is internally regulated to 100 PSI and typical operation pressure is 55-70PSI controlled from the previously installed pressure regulator which was located at the secondary filter not 24 PSI. They are not designed to run any type of vegetable oil or waste oil, and Ford does not recommend you run more than 5% bio diesel through them from a pump station. The primary filter is 10 micron and it constantly circulates the fuel from the tanks filtering over and over to both warm and "polish" ( clean ) the fuel. The Fabric looking cover on the outside of the filter is a water barrier and it will clog if your vegetable oil has water adsorbed in it. The second fuel filter located at the upper fuel bowl on the original engine is a 2 micron filter. The pump pulls fuel through the filter and does not push fuel through the filter as other fuel pumps do. This action reduces the pressure on the fuel and causes adsorbed gasses and air to be released from the fuel which eliminates aeration problems in fuel being supplied to the injectors. Ford recommends using a fuel additive that has a demulsifier to pull the moisture out of the fuel so it can be drained and never reach the injectors. Injector tips on the original engines can split if the fuel had too much water emulsified in it. Swapping to anything other than that fuel conditioning module will be fine for the low tech engine you use now. The Heaters were removed from the units if you took them to a dealer as they were phased out and were only in early production modules. That dish on the pump where the brushes ride is normal. You simply used the module in all the wrong ways so it was destined to have a problem.

You're right, it can't handle the veg oil and found it won't pump B100 either. I've since bypassed the pump and have had no further issues with it.:) Thanks for your input and watching the video.:)

This is the second video where you have mentioned an EGR cooler. Why would a 4v53 need an EGR cooler? How would you even hook one up?
@harlingpark723
@harlingpark723 2 года назад
The EGR cooler is only used to heat the fuel. The fuel travels through the cooler and is heated by the engine coolant to 180 degrees. Instead of using engine coolant to cool the exhaust gases, the coolant is used to heat the fuel. I’ll post a video when I get the cooler/fuel heater. Thanks for watching.:)

the EGR cooler is simply being "repurposed" to heat fuel. None of the 2 stroke GM/Detroits ever used an EGR cooler.

I changed the lift pump on a 6.4L on the stock filter housing. The truck still dies randomly. Any ideas what the deal is??

Could be a host of things, but check fuel pressures and make sure filters are clean and no air is getting into your fuel. I don't have the 6.4 anymore as I replaced it with a Detroit diesel.

The main problem is that it's a 6.4.

How do you bypass this?

I bypassed the hfcm with tubes off another unit I had. I just cut the fittings off and used those on the ford fuel lines and joined with rubber fuel lines. Thanks for watching.
