In this video we finish off the mini project by performing a wheel alignment to make sure it is sitting nice and straight and will not ruin the new tire we mounted and balanced. We also check the balance on the tire that Walmart put on. Oh we also harass the help at my brothers shop! -Enjoy!

I drove an 08 Fusion for 495K miles. I changed those control arms and tie rod ends myself in the driveway! Royal pain in the a**. I was able to do it all except remove those bushings. Those I took to a local shop and they pressed them off for me. I have said for years that all automotive engineers need to spend a year or more wrenching on what they design. I bet we would see a lot less of the BS we encounter. I love your channel, keep up the great work!

Very much enjoyed seeing inside your dad's shop. Years ago I would help a friend work on his dump trucks and excavation equipment. He would come get me to help work on his Cat loader. I am small and would fit inside the gearbox. Oh the fun stuff.

@@davescanlon3456 I worked on the diesel engine on a nuclear sub for 6 years. It was a locomotive engine except you only had about 3 inches of clearance in most directions. There's a reason I work on cars now.

Eric, isn't it a pleasure to visit with people at a place you once worked at, knowing you were not happy there, and being able to say "see ya" and go back to a enjoyable work environment? I'm experiencing that feeling since I took promotion at my job. Such a happy fella now. Oh....by the way, you made many angels happy on the test drive with all the jingles from the items jingling from the rear view mirror. I'm with you Dr. O., I definitely do not miss working on those big trucks did it for 11 years, the reefer and trailers weren't to bad unless it had broken springs and a full load and it was 3 AM and late to get out west.

I was thinking the same thing you were saying when the guy was heating that rear yoke. That Babies gonna have to come apart that seal is cooked. I did a pinion seal and bearing once in my Ranger and it was a piece of cake compared to what that poor guy was fighting with. I enjoyed seeing the goings on in the other shop. Job well done Eric.

Used to work on heavy plant, Volvo BM, Euclid dumpers, Michegan loading shovels, and enjoyed every minute of it because I was out in the field. The breakfasts I used to be given on quarries were big enough that sometimes I didn't know whether to climb it or eat it... The Volvo kit was still years behind what we had down the coal mines in tech. Happy days, all last century. Started calling cars "Dinky toys" and had to go to 1/4 drive stuff because I kept breaking things...

Yea that sucks with the pinion yoke and that impact will wear you out not to mention working on your back all day. We had a big rig garage section where we worked on all the big Dodge tractors at the dealership in my younger days and I'd help one of our older mechanics (everyone was older when you're 18) work on them and that crap would wear you out and I was 18. Irwin told me slow & steady gets it done or you'll be wore out by noon...learned a lot from Irwin. Trinity is growing up fast along with the rest of your crew...gives your videos that personal touch. As always it was enjoyable!!

I had a two week work placement at a shop that had a fleet of 54 kenworths. I thought I always wanted to do truck and coach but after a few days I realized. F*** this, I'll stick with cars and light trucks lol.

Well, at our shop we have 4 grease pits that can fit two trucks each or 1 truck and trailer each and two sets of wheel lifts that can lift 26-39 metric tonnes(depending on if you use 4 or 6). So we're rarely crawling on the floor when we do transmissions or differentials or whatever. Mind we're a dealership workshop so we don't have to deal with all sorts of trucks, but we do get the occasional stray coming in. It's pretty cushy compared to shipyard work anyway, pays better too even with less overtime.

Fun series. I started out fixing military trucks and then commercials . Is heavy and proper hard work plus far more skilled then get credit for, much prefer cars lol, when struggling with something on a car I just think back to the trucks and smile lol .

Tip for removing frozen nuts when you can’t use heat or cut them. Drill a hole with a fine bit just above the top of the thread, it doesn’t matter if you take a cut out of the threads as long as it is small. If the nut is very large drill more holes but three will usually do one at 12 one at 3 and another at 6 o’clock with a chisel strike a notch in the side of the nut between the holes then check if the nut will undo. If still no luck drill a larger hole between the first hole and the side of the nut and chisel the hole open to split the nut. You can use this method with a cutting torch also.

Wish I had access to an alignment machine. I have to drive them to a shop and pay like everyone else. Not a huge deal, but when the thing comes out with a crooked steering wheel and loose locknuts or collars, then it becomes one! Happens far too often, unfortunately ... I feel those guy's pain at the shop - like a daily occurrence for me here, heating up crap so it moves one-billionth of a millimeter at a time, doing stuff twice, etc.. Like you said in the last one, this is what we signed up for, so gotta dance with what I 'brung' . I can only imagine bigger, heavier rusty parts though - no thanks! I actually prefer working on lawn equipment and motorcycles - opposite end of the mechanical spectrum. Trinity is growing like crazy lately! Before we know it, she'll be driving ... and having dad fix her cars! It happens quick! 😊 I can't believe my best friend's daughter has moved out and in college already. Crazy how fast time flies by. She was born when I was just getting ready for my 2 year trip out West to MMI. Went by in a blink! Time to start day FOUR of a PT Cruiser timing belt job. Dead serious! Talk about a poorly engineered pile of DUNG!!! 🤬🤬🤬 🤯

Excellent video! I've never seen that done professionally, it's so nice to see how alignment done. Just a suggestion, if you're going to move the camera to a dark area under the car that might be poorly lit (like at 6:16), turn the video camera headlight on before you crawl under. The camera will thank you with better contrast and focus, and it will adapt to the change in lighting much faster. The built in video light is not much drain on the battery, but remember to turn it off after the clip is finished.

Damn nice machine. We got a little bit older version but John Beam and Hunter have always been fine for me. However i must say, had i not done a caster sweep after the rollback, guaranteed she wouldve had a caster variance or something lol. My luck is that good.

If it weren't for the 3,700 mile ride to the right to get to his shop, I'd have him align my 94 f250. Thing pulls like a dog on a leash to the right and nobody around me can get it straight. I'm sure Eric here would enjoy a rust free truck. A change of pace.

Couple things.. The problem with that frt suspension system is that nothing but toe is adjustable. If it needs anything else, it's off to a frame shop for some 'nip and tug'.. Way back when, when Honda started using that upper/lower arm with coil over strut, Moog had put out adjustable upper arm cam bolts to fix camber issues. You got about 1.5* positive or negative out of them. Problem was, they put stress on the upper joint and arm bushings, and we saw a lot of early failures after the cam bolts were installed. I don't think they make them anymore. What I do, since I outsource my alignments, is 1st count the turns on the tie rods, then take a tape measure and set the inner sidewall, both ft and rear, so that they are equal ( which theoretically should be 0 toe ) after I shake down the steering wheel and lock it. I've found that in 8 out 0f 10 cases, I'm within a couple tenths of a degree on the machine. And that's gravy for the alignment guy.
