We need more people like you who simplify things. I'll use your video as a guide to replace the low beam bulbs on both sides of my wife's fusion. Thanks!
This video for the Passenger side saved me a whole lot of time and extra work!!! The Driver side on a Fusion/Milan HYBRID is a totally different situation and there is no room to do the replacement as shown in this video. Overall, Handy Val had the smartest and most thoughtful approach to this job. Thank you!
Well done. I changed passenger side bulb. It’s kind of not easy to do job with one hand but still it’s doable. It can be done less than 10mins if you don’t forget to put the rubber cap back like me:)
THIS EXTRA TIP MAY HELP ANYONE DOING THIS: Thank you very much for this very instructive video! I successfully changed my bulbs using this video but I wanted to offer a tip to others as well from my experience changing my bulbs. My driver's side did not allow enough space for two hands. I had quite a bit of fumbling and frustrating attempts to get the bulb removed from the clip with one hand nearly gave up. After some prayer I found the best way was to simply put the bulb back into the slot and by turning clockwise. lock it back into place. Then the clip could be unlatched with one hand. Once unclipped, the old bulb could be removed from the slot by turning counter-clockwise and removing it, then inserting the new bulb in the slot, turning clockwise to lock it and then reattach the clip to the locked bulb and putting the rubber seal back on.
I watched one other video from someone else and it was not nearly as helpful. This Excellent video saved me Big Money, THANK YOU!! (2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid)
Incredible video very well done. This reminds me of the time that I replaced my sister's Volkswagen Beetle tail light bulbs, it was a different situation but they wanted to tell her they had to drop the bumper to replace the bulbs all of her friends different mechanics, Not only was that not necessary but all you had to do was pull the felt back which was the liner of the trunk and there was a thumb screw holding the whole assembly in place. So not only did you not have to drop the bumper you didn't even need any tools LOL
Thanks for sharing your experience with the VW Beetle. It seems like there's always a better and easier way to get things done. Sometimes I wonder whether some mechanics are deliberate in taking the long route to fix things, so they can charge more and justify to the client why it's a 'big' job.
Thank you so much for this video!!!first time changing anything in my 2011 fusion. You explained everything so well and even showed how to move the coolant hose out of the way. Your amazing! Thanks again. Leah Rose
Awesome video! For the passenger side I went with loosening the wheelwell covers since I had the rivet removing tool and spare rivets to easily replace. Still felt a bit like assembling a ship in a bottle though!
Thank you! The change in bulb requires a lot of patience - Ford, like others are making the simple maintenance items more and more difficult and costlier, if you’re not doing it yourself.
As usual, if they made the wire harness longer it would make connector part MUCH EASIER BUT THEY DONT CARE. Thanks so much for making Our life a lot easier in spite of Ford's bettrr idea.
I don't remember, if in the video I said ecommended that you wear long sleeves. Nonetheless, I just added a 'Helpful Tips' section in the video description where I recommend people wear long sleeves when doing this job - it's a must! Thank you.
Just wanted to say I also use the coolant reservoir method. It's hard to get my hands in there, but I'm sure glad I don't have to take a bunch of stuff apart. I mostly watched this video to see if there was another way :) -- glad I'm not the only one
The coolant reservoir method works best because you’re on your feet and as such, have a good view of exactly where your hand and the bulb is. The hands can get scuffed. It’s tight!
Thanks. Removing a portion of the inner plastic wheel well cover is an option too. I speak briefly about it in the video. But I find it a bit more involved and more difficult than what’s shown in the video. The well well option works well if the car is jacked up, so you have a better line of sight when getting to the bulb. I just wish Ford made the passenger side bulb removal as easy as the driver side.
Smart idea. Thanks for the suggestion. I added a 'Helpful Tips' section in the video description and added this step so others may benefit from it too. Thanks again.
Hi, I need to change the signal (directional) light bulb and I see there is minimal space to access that area with your hands. Is it an option to "remove" the assembly to gain access or it is NOT recommended.
It’s tight, I agree. Try with your hands and be patient with it. Removing the assembly will help, but from what I remember the assembly has bottom screws that can only be removed once the bumper is taken out.
I don't have a video on the high beams yet. For the driver side high beam, you can follow the same instructions for the low beam. For the passenger side, it is different - you don't have to fiddle with coolant reservoir, but you'll need to loosen the windshield washer fill neck (it's held together by a screw), doing so will allow enough space for your hand to get to the rubber cap and bulb. I hope this helps.
Would taking the coolant container be safe on the 2010 Hybrid fusion? The low beam is out on the driver's side. Would it be safer to take the headlight out? Thank you.
Thanks for watching. The Fusion Hybrid engine compartment is a lot tighter than the non-hybrid versions. I don't have experience with the Hybrid version. The coolant container seems like it can be lifted, similar to the video shown - you can try to see if works. On the driver's side, the battery, I think needs to be removed to get to the driver headlights. I know what I shared in this comment isn't completely helpful, but I hope it gives you some insight for the Hybrid.
@@HandyVal very welcome. I appreciate the reply. I will try it tomorrow. I was thinking to remove the wheelwell cover or unbolt the head light if possible without taking off the bumper.
The high beams are similar. For the driver’s side follow the video. For the passenger side it’s a bit easier than what’s shown in the video. You’ll need to detach the windshield washer fill tube from the car. It’s a small nut. Then that allows you to slip your hand through to get to the high beam bulb. I hope this helps.
@HandyVal thank you. I actually found out I was an idiot and was trying to install high beams with a different configuration style, but the "fitting" was the same, it just had a cable that connected to the power connector, but since the connector actually has the part that holds everything in place, it wouldn't work, but I was too frustrated to realize and too stubborn to step back and figure things out until I nearly collapsed in the parking lot at Walmart 😂 I had the worst friction burns on my fingers, and woke up with the worst pain in my legs that still hurt to this day (3 days later)
@@thechuckinator You've all been there at some point, where we keep trying and failing, and then realize why it's not working! I understand the leg pains too - I get them too from time to time working on the cars.
This won't work for a hybrid the air cleaner sits down in the fender on a hybrid .... Okay update on this comment I was wrong this method and you can work around the inverter this method save me a lot of time thank you it does work on the Hybrid.
Hey buddy I just want you to know I had enough room with the hybrid I could work around the inverter so this does work I just want to let you know thank you so much it's saved a lot of time even on the hybrid. I'll remove my comment in a day or two just to make sure you get this message thank you
The engineer that designed these cars with four-cylinder engine you should not have to do this!! Something tells me the engineers that designed these cars never worked on it!!! I know on camrys you don't have to do this.
I agree. The Ford engineers stumbled on this. Basic replacement\maintenance items should be easy to do for the car's owner - it feels like it should be a mandate when developing cars.
Your problem is uncommon. You can try to turn the bulb slightly clockwise turn, and then counterclockwise to remove. It seems like the rubber seal on the bulb base might have slightly melted onto the metal housing, so it needs to be loosened (the slight clockwise may seem counterintuitive, as clockwise is used to tighten the bulb, but it will help loosen the bulb...followed by the counterclockwise turn to remove. I hope this helps.
Be careful I did as mentioned and I think it may have been locked in by a bracket and now I got a bulb I can’t separate from a silver bracket and no light
That is very unusual. You should still be able to remove the bulb, as long as you can still grab whatever is left of it, turning counterclockwise. It doesn't need a lot of force to turn it. I hope it's the driver's side as you have more room and visibility.
Thanks. The tank can be lifted without disconnecting any piping or fluid and that will allow for space to get your arm/hands in to make the bulb change. Completely removing the tank will allow for even easier access, but this is a much bigger job than that shown in the video, and not needed.
I freakin love this you gonna make me look like a real man in front of the girl I'm doing this for. I love you brother great breakdown me myself didn't need as much but I can see for a beginner, How absolutely perfect this video is.
Easy, steer your wheel away from the plastic cover and take off the plastic underneath the engine bay. You’ll need a few tools but be careful not to break the clamps. You’ll have access to the fog lights directly under neath the car
