I'm not taking the Raptor. The TRX is the better truck. Put bigger tires on it and things would be different in this test. The Ram has such an epic interior as well. The Hemi is also superior so it seems like a no brainer to me.
I thought that too... Personally i think 1 person should be testing both trucks, to make sure an equal amount on confidence and skill is behind the wheel each time.
Totally agree. Tho it is nice to see that it won’t automatically shift for you even in manual mode. Some car makers make it so that it still shifts automatically when you hit the rev line even if you’re in manual mode
To be fair they would each need to run each separate car so that driver doesn't have an impact on the equation as well. That said, they did say themselves that driver could have an influence so I don't think they're taking their numbers very seriously. Ultimately, I agree, with one of the previous responses of, how hard would it be to just redo the run when he left it in first gear.
As if it wasn’t bad enough using two different drivers (which ignores driving skill as a factor), they don’t even repeat the run when one of them messes up shifting. What a joke
Not only that, she complain about the 2WD situation and make him go 4WD because the TRX doesn’t have 2WD but she use lunch control on the 1st race when she know the Raptor doesn’t have Lunch control.
It’s Edmunds. What do you expect. They are a bunch of Euro luxury elitists and wouldn’t know how to properly do any hard driving, much less a desert race. Go over to Ben Hardy’s channel for a real desert race comparison. He drives both trucks back to back, and even though the Raptor is in its worst possible guise for desert racing (V6 and 37 pack), it still beats the TRX around the short track by a not insignificant 7 seconds, even though there were a lot of straights that the TRX made up ground. To make matters worse, he said the Raptor felt super calm and easy, meaning he could’ve pushed it harder and won by even more.
These two were so annoying, I couldn't watch the whole video!! Back to TFL for me, and Roman is pretty annoying, but at least his videos are watchable!
I ended up going with the Raptor over the TRX for a few reasons. Primarily: Raptor has a more comfortable ride, more comfortable seats, 37" tires and it has auto lane centering which makes long highway drives much easier.
I wouldn't put that articulation test with such a gap of space difference between both tires allowed....you act like this video is going to make you decide between both vehicles lmfao
You'd have thought they would have not even used that one run in the post production version of the vid and re-run it. Both drivers were a joke and compromised the results.
On the articulation, if she had gone to the point where her back tire was off the ground as high as his, she could have made up that 6" and tied him. They marked hers where it first left the ground. He was able to wave his whole hand under his tire.
This is clearly a marketing video for Ford's new baby. The TRX is the better truck. Ford makes a nice truck but they have been behind Ram for years now. Plus, HEMI!
@@PyroBlonde7777 Please tell me you're joking because you can't be that delusional or stupid to say Ford has been behind Ram for years when this is there first real off road competitor to Ford and even than Ford still beats it overall.
All of the tests with people that know how to drive showed the Raptor is faster than the TRX, even with 37" tires vs 35" tires. Watch TFL if you don't believe me...
The last two things are both absolutely wrong. Have you seen the kind of prices TRXs have gone for? Some optionless examples have been going for 150k+ or higher. I’ve yet to see one R go for over that. And sound? Please. The TRX is probably one of the worst sounding V8 cars ever made. I was up close and personal with one while revving the engine, and I could barely hear the engine over the whine of the supercharger. A little bit is okay, but a lot is annoying and drowns out the good V8 sound. With the R, you can barely hear the supercharger unless you are standing in front of the car. From the back, it sounds divine, and it is extremely loud and angry in a way no other cross-plane V8 car can match.
@The-fs5wn This comment in regards to mark ups is insane. Bro.... you ain't getting a fucking r without a bare minimum 30k markup. Check Mark Dodge and they are marking off 12k on trx orders... your paying double the price for an available r and getting one Motorola radio length of articulation. I have owned a gen 2 raptor and currently own a trx before I get called out for not owning one.
@@The-fs5wn : There are 6 Raptor Rs listed for sale on AutoTrader right now (4:58pm CST 10/22/23) & 4 have the prices listed. The cheapest one has an asking price of $149,999. There are 939 new TRXs listed for sale. The cheapest one is $90,495 & 205 of them have asking prices below $110K & 790 of them have asking prices of $125K or less. So what were you saying?
@@mazevx2451 That is not how articulation works🙄, a vehicle with a different wheelbase can have more articulatation in this test but not actually have more articulation……..this is simply a test of wheelbase plus articulation but not just articulation!
Interesting with the makeshift RTI test. Dan Edmunds and C&D did a proper RTI test and it favored the TRX pretty well (602 vs 525 or 559 for the 35" Raptor).
I’m a Ford man at heart. I owned a 1988 GT fox body however for the money I’ll take the TRX any day of the week because of the price. It’s pretty much the same truck at less money. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
fully loaded v6 raptor with tune and down ppes makes 700+hp and smokes trx while keeping lightweight raptor ability. foress than base trx. Or be very smart and bu awd v8 pre 2020 f150 (because of tune and build ability) and 30k for short bed single cab v8 f150 stock sealed coyote only needs boost and fuel for 15k and can make up to 1200whp and short bed single cab can run 8s and crewcab can run 9s in the 1/4. so 30 to 45k for the truck 15k for power you can have 750 to 950
but the screaming woman.......ruined it for me. Big miss from Edmunds.....the guys buying these trucks want to see accurate data, not some dramatized reality tv show.
I guess you can’t test a Porsche 911 turbo S against the McLaren 765 because the turbo S has all-wheel-drive and it wouldn’t be fair to the McLaren?!?! 🤷🏻♂️ Oh! Wait! But you did! 😮
Challenge to viewer: How far did you make it into this video? I sadly tapped out at about 11 mins.. But now in hindsight I feel I could have stopped it much sooner..
@@ALMX5DP nah like i also hate those who are never satisfied too, but you gotta agree. That comparison was not good. How do you consider a result in a race after the driver messes it up? Like at least rerun it to get a more fair comparison
@@danielkomiyama6656 definitely not the best, but far from being unwatchable for me. Still found it entertaining in a few ways. And I dont base my satisfaction on the results necessarily I just take everything as entertainment.
Great seeing Jason Lewis in this one, hopefully he's in more! Between the two it would be almost a coin flip, I'd have to drive them both. I lean TRX, but agree that the 2WD in the Raptor would make for some fun shenanigans.
Two great trucks. I've owned the Gen 2 and 3 Raptors and am looking to get a TRX. BTW: Momentum makes it easier to get up a hill, not harder; your truck doesn't win because you used speed. Also, the 37s on the Raptor are a nice upgrade, but keep in mind the 35s on the TRX are wider by about .4" (325 vs 315). It doesn't make the two equal, but the 35s on the TRX are some of the widest ones you can get on a stock truck. I'd still rather have the 37s with more sidewall.
I forgot to change the gears for 5 seconds haha!!! And 2 seconds in different! you are comparing the car, that should be %100 fair, but when you guys didn't run it back, that's unfair!!! or instead of that bring a professional drive... because I know RAPTOR R can do way better than RAM TRX!
Raptor R is the clear winner but Ford always has the highest markups. I’ve been shopping and the best I can do is 30k markup. I’ll hold out a little longer. Let’s not forget, the R is only here because of the TRX. Ford should have never put a v6 ecoboost in a Raptor. It has cam phaser issues. I got cam phasers fixed under warranty and now that I’m out of warranty it will cost me 4k out of pocket to fix it. Please re run a race when one had it in first gear for an extended time. People like me actually watch these videos because we compare the two. Currently own: 2019 mustang 5.0 pp1 10 speed 2019 Raptor Supercrew 2021 jeep trakchawk.
I drive a dodge ram at the moment but have had a number of ford's. Whichever truck winning this challenge is fine with me. I like both brands. Now we need to see the creature features in both. The interior is important also.
I drive fords however, I know someone who purchased a TRX I love the R and if money was there, I would buy it over the TRX however when I sat in one of them, it was so comfortable and material was amazing even as a ford guy, I gotta admit that rams interior is far better however as a ford guy, I would get a ford
This isn’t a comparison. A comparison should have the same driver using both vehicles or a set of drivers competent with both vehicles. - They didn’t retest the run - The Raptors tire was a half foot off the ground for the articulation test vs the TRX just barely off. Both are wrong and the test is over when the tire breaks traction. - one driver takes a modest approach up a hill vs the other one is slightly aggressive
You have to buy only for 250 bucks a TazerDT and then you are able to set the TRX to 2WD easily.... But you can't add a launch control to the RaptorR so far...
Not fair, the raptor was not switch from 1st gear that cant be use as the real Raptor R time, also if he can’t use 2WD because she doesn’t have that option on the TRX then she is not suppose to use lunch control on the 1st race cause the raptor doesn’t have lunch control and she take advantage of that to have a better lunch, love the video but don’t agree with those 2 things.
Well technically the Raptor won all 3 of the challenges. If you messed up that run, that should be a do over. At least for the sake of clarity and all fairness. Both are great trucks overall.
Not necessarily a criticism of this channel but all off road channels is what is the science behind an articulation test?? More articulation in my mind is bad leading to roll overs, especially in solid axle 4x4s as the wheel tilts into the lean. Keeping all wheels on the ground but having the rig on an extreme angle doesn't sound better to me. Remember the Hummer H1 has poor articulation relying on its inherent stability to still be effective with 3 wheels and better stability. It's a myth that these vehicles are designed to articulate, they're putting tremendous strain on the components. I understand greater suspension travel is important to a certain point, but the greater travel the higher the centre of gravity.
I felt like in whoops, she was just putting around the first corner. Also when he pulled on the articulation rock, he had a couple inches under the tire, when she did it, he stopped her when you could barely slide a credit card under it... If your gunna do a comparo, have both drivers , drive both trucks then average it.. Or hire a pro to do it and these two just run the stop watches..
It is really annoying to have car people reviewing truck or any offroad vehicle. Even more when the car person know absolutely nothing about truck. FYI... FOX shocks and Bilstien shock are not your suspension. Those are called "Shocks", your suspension are those metal things that has joints one each end, and that connect your wheel hub/spindle to your frame for an IFS. On the solid axle those item connects your axle to the frame. Those metal things with joints on each end are called Control Arms and/or Links. The geometry of all of those control arms in relation to each other makes up your suspension and how your vehicle rides. Again shock are a small part of your suspension.
same thing tbey did when they ran 2 different camaros a zl1 less non aero for drag race and zl11le aero pack and tires vs gt500 cftp which is aero pack and challeger redeye. we know where redeye will bee but th admitted at the end they were running gt500 on fried tires. wtf is the test for then . them and randy popst and throttle house did this. what was the point
Well since I have only ever owned Dodge/Ram trucks in 40 years of driving it would be the TRX all day long. Plus the $11g in additional savings = more mod money. Not hard to get the 6.2l Hellcat engines over 1000hp pretty easily plus still money left over for 37's
I would get the TRX because these trucks would be on the road 99 percent and maybe 1 percent off road, better interior quality and technology including head up display and launch control, and cheaper.
It was entertain and fun watching the videos but i had to chuckle a little when limiting one vehicle because of functions and benefits the other one didn’t have🤗
Funny how people doing real world tests talk about how much better the raptor is in every category 😂 and then all of these comparison channels say the trx is better. After all, dodge is the one paying for advertising. Cleetus mcfarland got his raptor r and then raced his dads trx. He said “idk why all these videos are showing them being pretty even because it’s not even close, the raptor is way faster and jumps better”
Cars should have been tested with same drivers. If not, you test the experience and skills of the driver, not the car. Also e.g. for the speed test: You can drive with both trucks this street with highest speed. It's not difficult with these trucks. A test of off-road capabilities has to be look very difficult than this video. Also finally the RaptorR wins close, but costs so much more than the TRX. Are these small step ahead are worth? From my side I am a fan of both trucks, driving a Ford Mustang GT 5.0 but decided to add a TRX instead of the RaptorR. The reason are the better interior, look of the truck, sound of the HEMI and also the lesser price. And together with the RazerDT I can also use 2WD with the TRX...
Using launch control on the TRX which the raptor doesn’t have is not fair. Then forcing the raptor to be in 4H for the whoops test to be fair comparison! This is crazy 😂
Even with the wins and losses as they stand, the TRX is over 20k less and for that, I'd take it and put 37" on it, which Ram themselves say that it was, "wink, wink" made for but left up to the customer if they wanted to do that.
@@josephberry5811 obviously you don't know what an argument is...the point is this trx did NOT have the same package, so imagine the outcome if it did, 🤡
The raptor just looks pedestrian now. The fenders dont seem that wide and i hate the gen 3 grill. Also for me the newest ford interior is an absolute deal breaker. It’s cheap feeling and ugly
man both these trucks look absolutly sweet but i wanna see a reaper in action again. Saw one once in person and could see the long tube headers from the front wheeel wells and sounded badass. be better than my toyota echo lol
Geezus, that articulation was different for a couple of reasons- yeah 37 in over 35 would cause this, also was she really off the ground the same amount? Here's another reason that when it comes to an actual review of a vehicle you the consumer do it yourself.
Bruh the raptor messed up the first one by holding the rev on one gear. They didnt even retry. The raptor coudnt use 2 wheel drive which even though the raptor has and the trx doesnt the raptor cant for some reason. Nah and it still won
