It could possibly be the meter. Sometimes when the needle gets jerky like that it could indicate the gears being old and dry. A search for vintage tractor parts online could yield some results. I remember having a mail order catalog of tractor parts a few years ago and they listed pretty much all the manufacturers plus their replacement parts. You can even get replacement decals and emblems for the different manufacturers. Thanks for sharing, Chad!
I think it may be that meter. I also noticed that the little thing inside the hydraulic pump moves/flexes in and out as the pump spins. So there may be something inside that pump that needs replaced also.

Good day Sir, Yes I agree with you about using lithium grease ( it never dry ) but once a year you can oil sae 30 oil from the top and let the oil working going down from the gauge toward to hydraulic pump. That gauge need perhaps a clean up inside ? Have a nice week Sir Cheers 😇👍🍻
That’s why I was afraid to buy the one off of Amazon because of complaints that they don’t work but the Steiner tractor one that you pay more for with shipping looks like the exact same one. I don’t think any of them are quality cables like the original one was and I can’t find a good quality one anywhere mine on my golden jubilee broke about a month ago it’ll be the third time I replaced it and I normally get two or three years before they break again if I’m lucky they just don’t last. But according to a lot of other peoples comments, I guess I’ve been fortunate they’ve lasted that long. A lot of people say they don’t last a month before they break again so I’ll help support the channel and I’ll order one again and fix mine. I mean it’s only 15 bucks, right? Lol and we’ll see how long it lasts and if it works on my golden jubilee.
I requested a replacement for the Amazon one, with a link to the video showing the problem I was having. They immediately shipped another cable out. I've installed that cable and determined that the cable is not the issue. I believe it's either that my proof meter needs replaced, or something inside the hydraulic pump needs replaced. There is some movement/flex/slop inside there where the cable goes into the pump.
Good video! I need to do the same on our 641. The proofmeter hasn't worked since it was bought back in the mid 90's. I'll have to check but I think at about the same hours as yours reads.

It not only tracks your hours. It shows your RPMs and it’s segmented on the needle for each gear you’re in it shows you your mile per hour per each gear, as well as shows you pto speed per gear also because on the older Ford tractors, the PTO is driven by the transmission so the faster you go the faster the PTO spins.
