Fantastic!Although I have 2000 6.8, the oil cooler adapter is completely different, I learned all sorts of tips and tricks. Thank you for taking the time to be so thorough! Yes, video is longer than ‘You’ want but is only ‘just enough’ for us DIY guys.

Most 6.8 and 5.4 4x4 truck are incorporated into the engine mount on driver's side of engine. One day I hope to be able to keep a 6.8 long enough to film the shortcut

@@SandCarServices Hi Ron, I haven’t gone underneath yet and thought I’d ask you first before I start jacking up etc. Do you know if My 2000 excursion 6.8 I can ‘Get to oil Cooler Directly’ or do I have loosen the engine mounts and Jack the engine up a bit on driver side to finagle getting to gasket?

Thankyou. I've got an Australian Falcon with a 5.4 quad cam in it & I've been trying to identify an oil leak. After watching your vid I've confirmed that gasket is the issue & I now know how to fix it. Cheers!

@@danielledesma69 Yep, all good. The plug in the block was a pain because the cross member was in the way, but other than that it was straight forward & easy. Leak now fixed. :-)

Thank you for this. Surprised by an oil leak from my truck one morning. Appeared to be coming from oil filter. After watching your video found it was the oil filter gasket. This video got me through the replacement. Mine had 4x4 which made the replacement a little more difficult but it got done. Thank you for this super informative video!

I have a 99 f250 with the 5.4 triton. I had the head gasket replaced at 115,000 miles and now I'm at 154,000. I have oil in my coolant but no coolant in my oil, no loss of power and no smoke from my exhaust. I believe this gasket is the reason for my problem. I will tear into it in the morning and replace this $15 part before I even think about tearing the heads off of the motor again. Just thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else has a similar issue.

AWOL FPV serious pain in the ass fix for me but I got through it a few hours later , my mechanic skills are a 4 out of 10 but if there is a next time it will be done in 30 mins

Thanks for sharing this video, I am currently experiencing some leaking issues from my 2009 4.6 Ford F-150. I think this is what my problem is. My truck mileage is now at 299,768 and she's been hanging in there. Well ig I'll be working on that when my son is off from work, and not using my truck. Been keeping an eye on that leak that started about 2 days ago.

FILL YOUR COOLANT AFTER AND BURP IT or you will over heat like i did. Thankfully i was watching the gauges and pulled over quick enough. You need to squeeze both top and lower radiator hoses to get air bubbles out while you keep coolant in a funnel filling the line with the pressur cap. not the resevoir. He did a good job on the video just needed to explain more about filling it back up with coolant.

@@1001Guitarplayer Get some extensions, remove the air dam, the hose clamp tool is really nice, and try to jack your truck up as high as you can

Gilberto, my niece had an oil leak and I suspect that it's the oil filter housing. She has a 2011 5.0 Ford lariat 4x4. I need to inspect it first, but I'm almost sure that's what it is. Any tips?

@@rudyavila9039 the same thing I told Doug. I would add that one of those electric drivers made for working on cars like the one from Milwaukee, would have made the process a lot faster. The remove the air dam you'll need spline sockets. I would just replace the whole housing. No one had it in stock in my area, but I wish I would have ordered one ahead of time. The housing looked pitted around the gasket. Also make sure you have extra coolant. At least 2 concentrated jugs and then mix 50/50 with distilled water

2003 Expedition 5.4 *** I will check that adapter for a leak and replace it anyways but I can smell oil burning with no smoke while running and no drips on the ground. so I'm guessing the passenger side has a valve cover gasket issue, while running and dripping on the exhaust manifold burning off and never making it to the ground. I can see all of the drivers side and it is dry. It would have to be the other side with ALL them hoses and clutter. haha. very nice video my friend have a blessed day.

Thanks for this video. Saw this leak on my 2003 Expedition today with the 4.6 2v. Thought at first it was the oil pan gasket, but I noticed this housing was covered in oil too. Think I'll change this gasket first and confirm if my leak is gone. Thanks.

I am looking at an Expedition with an oil AND water leak the owner can not find. The car starts, runs, spits oil and water out in places he can not see. additionally, I have a 2000 Crown Vic that had the infamous manifold leak. I am hoping both leaks are from the lower assembly, but, if not, I know what to do next. That should give us over 100,000 miles of ( lol ) trouble free driving ... you know nothing else can possible go wrong, it is a FORD. We love our mechanical jewels.

I just watched the video on the oil filter adapter housing leak. And my question is... Is this likely my issue? I only ask because I ran the truck and by the time I noticed the leaking, I could not find a point of origin. My fear is that it may be a front main seal or an oil pan gasket problem. Put in atf 205 reseal and the oil drip stopped. Now I am starting to notice the filter is wet so I suspect the filter housing is leaking again but nothing accumulating. Amazing product.

I would drain the oil from the filter, then finger tighten it, then pull the radiator hoses to reduce the chances of dumping oil into the hoses.

In watching your video two more questions came up. 1. Won't Teflon tape melt or disintegrate with the heat? 2. Won't a half empty engine water jacket cause a hot spot at start up?

Great video Ron!! I have been getting ready to tackle this job, I just noticed that the coolant in the reservoir is discolored and presume some oil or transmission fluid perhaps has contaminated it. Could the gasket be the same cause? The oil does not seem to have any coolant present.

Is the Oil Filter Housing Adapter leak issue common on Ford F-250 5.4L 2V engines? I am trying to trace down the leak and only disappears when I drive. I NEVER see staining on the ground. I think its the Valve Cover gaskets. Your thoughts...Right below the exhaust manifold on the passenger side is where I see oil staining....

I just want to point out most of the videos on this subject don't mention how important torque specs are on this part. If it isn't torqued properly it will leak like mad... 18ft pounds on the bolts, you will be good with 20. Start on the center bolt then the other one on the other side of the oil ports and then move to the others. Happy wrenching.

Most likely I gots cross contaminant but I tend to drain the oil and I hope I can get most of it out the coolant

Great video. Answer this one please. Would this gasket leaking cause oil to leak into the coolant ?? I'm getting a small amount of oil in the radiator, But not getting water into the oil !! (Thank God !! Lol). I replaced the radiator but it didn't help. I'm only getting enough oil to form a layer over the coolant in the resovoir. Still driving everyday. Please help. We love our Excursion but it's a constant worry !!

My hoses are about 1/4 inch deep in oil gunk. Not looking forward to this PITA. It's dumping oil into my coolant & coolant into my crankcase when the truck is off. Ugh, thnx Ford Engineers.

Hey there Ron, if I replace the old oil filter adapter with a brand new one, is it necessary to put silicone on the gasket and the adapter? Cause I'm doing the same job to my 2004 Expedition, but since it now exceeds 405,000 miles I thought it would be better to replace the oil filter adapter as well as the two coolant hoses that connect to the oil filter adapter as preventive maintenance.

I know is not related to this video, but it is the same engine. I have a 2003 ford f150 5.4 with a major oil leak. The oil leak is around the starter area. I just did the valve cover gaskets. No leak from there. Head gasket looks wet but it doesn't seem to leak from there. Stater is cover with oil. What else is there for an oil leak at this area?

Was the oil drained during this video. I was wondering because you had the oil filter off. When you filled the coolant back up did you simply just add the coola d and let it idle to take the air out of the syatem or was there a bleeder valve on that ford.

+Jason Aguirre yes i drained oil. But that is not necessary as long as you drain all coolant from block. This engine will gravity bleed the coolant if the system is in good working order. I fill coolant to half way up bottle then wait about 15 minutes and top off, then i start engine and warm up until upper and lower radiator hoses are both warm.

Hey Ron - thanks. 2007 Expedition 5.4 4wd. not a lot of room to work. I think I can get to the bolts, 3 from underneath, and 1 from the front, after removing oil filter. I can't get up into the space to remove the hose clamps. Is this description from below, correct "I had to loosen the motor mount and tranny mount....then I jacked up the motor (from bottom) about 4 inches to replace the gasket. I could not take the part out completely to clean it. Leak is gone.)" Thanks.

4x4 with mount integrated into motor mount is pain. I usually just clean and swap gasket on those because labor is to intense

Ron Williams - mission accomplished! Thanks for the tips. All went smoothly, except for the coolant shower. I did it on jack stands with a roller board, but pulling the front driver tire helped tremendously. I also replaced the lower and reservoir hoses while I was at it. 178k miles THIS leak is gone. I’m sure I’ll have another one soon ;)

Turns out my oil filter housing is not leaking. It's leaking from the head gasket. Not good news.

@@myriadcorp i did the timing job on this. Be prepared for alot of steps just to get those heads off. I would consider paying mechanic if your not experienced. Four out of 5 stars on the difficulty meter. Makes this video repair look elementary

Quick question, I just did a cam phaser job. Replaced the cam phasers, guides, chains, tensioners, bolts, etc with oem parts. I however did not go back with a oem oil pump, instead went with a melling high volume oil pump. I have everything hooked back up with the exception on the crank shaft sensor. Trying to build oil pressure by cranking motor. I can't get any oil pressure. I really don't want to tear back into the motor but I'm thinking a faulty oil pump or something I missed. Could you lend some knowledge my way? The oil pressure sending unit worked when I tore into the motor so I can't understand why it would just stop working now..

Did u lube the internal oils pump gears? And are you going by the gauge on the instrument cluster for checking pressure, or do you have a dial guage? I too did the same upgrade. Also had same issue. Now melling calls for you to squirt oil next to the small slot with a tube. I did this more than twice with a new garden pesticide sprayer and assorted attachments. Also used a npt fitting to the garden sprayer thru the oil sensor like the one used in this vid. I was able to get almost 7 quarts this way. I left the crank sensor off and must cranked over 7 times. Was very frustrated to not see the needle on the cluster move. I then said fuck it. It must be primed and the stock gauge musnt be telling actual pressure. I decided to plug in sensor and then bam needle gauge went up. Let me know if your still having issue. Melling has a yt vid on priming the ford modular motor. Boy does my pur now and no more chain slap. Passenger guide was dismantled into six pieces. I used cloyes timing kit and kept my phasers since it wasnt my issue. Let me know I hope this helps
