The thing is this a very expensive wedding. Majority of us don't have the capability of spending a fraction of this amount. But no matter how small the wedding is, the mood is always this festive. Lesser budget, smaller venue, less variations of food items but it's always this fun.

Myself married to an Italian, the genuine Kerala Hindu temple wedding, which was a simple religious ceremony in temple in white saree with gold border and hubby in white mundu. Lasted not more than 10 minutes. Then we did have an evening reception in kovalam resort with music, dance and good food. Definitely not a big fat wedding. That’s not normal in Kerala and we preferred to keep everything traditional. India is huge.. traditions and weddings change from north to south, east to west. That’s the beauty of india. ❤

Trust me the wedding is freaking expensive and I am imagining now how freaking rich she is ! Like in 65,000 lakhs I would buy home and lived happily. Not everyone is lucky like her to born in such rich families.

This is not a Indian wedding… it’s just any rich person’s wedding…. 1.399 billion Indians don’t have wedding like this… they have more spiritual, culturally rich, family bondings with lifelong memories.

Since I had started with my international postings, I have become desperate to attend Indian weddings...... I was one of those who never used to miss weddings, no matter small or big fat weddings. My life was so fun and comfy while I worked in India. My bosses were so pissed off and they forced me out of comfort zone.

Theoretically, I think the reason most of us Hindus spend heavily on situations like marriage is because we give these moments as the highest emphasis to obedience, sincerity and expression, every ritual performed during these events have several promises and responsibilities accepted between the couple. One example below. According to Hindus(foreign name), an individual is a manifestation of god, so we assume him to poses the godly character, they are called purusharthas(meaning “he will be called a man only if he is capable to poses these attributes”). There are basically 4(dharme, artha, Kama, moksha) meaning (Duty, wealth, Desire, Liberation), so he will be promising these to his better half that, he will stand by her side in all occasions. So, there are many such promises made on these occasions. The list is very big. Anyway, many people believe they spend so much money, but for many Hindus it’s about the emotions and the materialistic observations are irrelevant in such cases. Sometimes people will throw away all that this earth can offer for a good cause. That is a kind of expression without any expectations. Another example here: According to a Hindu holy books (Mahabharat) there is a character called Karna, who is a great warrior who is born with built in golden armour. The story says he is also very compassionate guy who is ready to give away all his belongings to the people who begs him. The story ends when a god appears in disguise asking him for his armour. So, the opponent can kill him. The emphasis has been made to show his expression of compassion more than his expression of valour. So, overall Hindus are born with expression of good more than expression of bad. Unfortunately nowadays it’s all about show off more than the real expression and emotion. We lost our way due to intervention of Bollywood and smartphones.
