When I was 12 years old I sent Barry a letter tellin him he was my idol and the goat of baseball and I was sent an autographed barry bonds baseball card back.. put him in the hall of fame dammit. How does this only have 28k views
BRO MY MOM SENT HIM A LETTER WHEN I WAS IN 6TH GRADE ABOUT ME DOING BAD IN SCHOOL, HE LEFT ME A VOICEMAIL TELLING ME TO DO BETTER IN SCHOOL LOL NO LIE S
He went to same high school as tom brady and lynn swam( Serra). It is an expensive all boys catholic school that produces the finest of boys that turned into men, but not just for athletes. Bonds is talking about Serra h.s. and it hits home. San Mateo (Silicon Valley) is not a place with a lot of children. It has the most expensive zip code( Atherton).
@@sxfleischerI REALLY LOVE how mcgwire gets a pass but people like you act like Bonds made and distributed them among the league, like he was a commissioner and turned a blind eye to it.
@@sxfleischer He and Clemens had the Raw Numbers before the PED era started. What is the point of keeping them out. Love to hear your analogy of Pudge Rodriguez who clearly used and is in Cooperstown.
This is just how screwed up our world is now. We still have in our midst’s the greatest player of our time and so few care to know who Barry Bonds really is. Thank so much Barry. Thanks Renel. Love you both.
@Tommy Hank Aaron. 3,700 hits and a .305 lifetime. Bonds finished just shy of 3,000 hits and a .300 lifetime . And The Hammer wasn’t a roided out clubhouse cancer that grew 10 hat sizes in 10 years, who no one could stand.
@Tommy Guy’s in Bonds’ day were juiced to the gills 🤷♂️ Barry could flick his wrist and the ball would wind up in McCovey Cove because he was so muscle bound. The greatest hitter ever can’t be a ped user, imo
I remember meeting Barry Bonds in the late 80’s when I was a kid, at the Melodyland Christian Center in CA. He was signing autographs that day, and my cousin and I got one. Nice guy, and a good day for us. Definitely deserves to be in the hall. Best offensive player ever. Had Griffey Jr not gotten hurt so much toward the end of his career, I think he’d have been right there with Barry in the GOAT conversation. Either way, my two favorite players period.
ITS ALWAYS INTERESTING TO KNOW HOW SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE IN THEIR PROFESSIONS BECOME GREAT AT WHAT THEY DO . I SAW BARRY BONDS SHOW ON THE FIELD THAT HE IS THE BEST BASEBALL PLAYER EVER . I WANTED TO SEE. AND HEAR BARRY OFF THE FIELD . BARRY DIDN'T DISAPPOINT WITH THIS INTERVIEW . IT IS VERY NICE TO HEAR THE. G.O.A.T. TALK ABOUT HIS UPS AND DOWNS . STAYING IN THE. MOMENT . GIVING YOUR ALL AND NOT QUITING UNLESS YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN'T PERFORM . ITS TOO BAD BARRY DIDN'T GET HIS FAREWELL TOUR . HE CERTAINLY DESERVED IT . BARRY BONDS IN HIS BATTING STANCE SHOULD BE MLB'S NEW LOGO . THANK YOU BARRY BONDS FOR BEING AN INSPIRATION ON THE FIELD AND OFF THE FIELD. WITH THIS INTERVIEW .>🎤
Saw Barry on the K Rod show a couple months ago. When he started talking about hitting and baseball,I was mesmerized ,his knowledge and they way he presented it I wished he would go on forever.Great to see that side of Barry.⚾⚾⚾⚾
MAN ITS SO HARD TO HATE THIS MAN. PEOPLE COULD SAY ALOT ABOUT HIM AND CRITICIZE HIM, BUT MAN THERE WILL NEVER BE A MORE EXCITING PLAYER TO WATCH HIT THAT BALL. BEST EVER HOF IN MY BOOK AND THE BASEBALLS GOAT!!!!!!!!!
I actually like Bonds but cmon dude 😂 you know how much easier it is to hit home runs on roids? You clearly don’t understand roids especially in the context of baseball.
Definitely a great interview and Barry finally introduced us to himself for the first time. . I wish Barry would do more interviews because he needs to tell his story because his refusal to talk to the press has allowed the press to create a negative narrative of himself. I learned so much about Barry and he was a master at studying the art of baseball. He explained his road to becoming the home run King. I am glad I found this interview.
I really wish Barry would write a book or make a video series on hitting. The Ted Williams book is iconic, but Barry would take it to an all new level.
@@deeplays9494 technically there’s no tangible or medical proof he ever dosed, just speculation. You can’t convict anything on mere speculation. He passed every drug test the league ever had him take. The voters of the HOF are refusing a man entry based on an assumption that can’t be proven true and that’s bs
@@deeplays9494 no he didn’t. BALCO was undetectable by the tests back then, which is why it became so popular amongst players. Bonds was charged with perjury and obstruction, but both of those charges ended up being dropped.
My Grandfather played back in 30s-40s and I remember him telling me taking stuff don't make you hit that baseball you have to have a Gift to hit that baseball and hand eye coordination Barry had the Gift he was a great hitter.
This video only having 60k viewers explains a lot about modern society. Lot of people form opinions and hate an individual without taking the time to learn and listen to an individual and appreciating who they are. 60K for this interview is an absolute scandal.
@deelewis8061 Good point...I'd add that he is not proactive in getting his own narrative out there..he doesn't do interviews or anything ..it's his fault that ppl hate him
Barry Bonds Before steroids 100 WAR; 14 Defensive WAR 8 Gold Gloves, 445 Stolen Bases 400+ Home Runs, 1250 RBI, 1250 walks .411 OBP, 0.966 OPS; .290 Batting average Oh yeah, and 3 MVP awards! Hall of Famer!!!!!!
Great interview, glad this was posted . Glad to see Barry enjoying his life an he’s still connected to the game assisting with the Giants . Kids are doing well , he cycling and. Staying fit . He is truly a baseball genius. And to be honest most geniuses are miss understood. Best interview I watched in a while.
Barry Bonds was undoubtedly a Hall of Famer before PEDs. He just wasn’t on pace for 762. When you break down his pre-1999 career and get into season averages and all that, you’d see that he was on pace for around 660-680 career homers.
@@cristineradding7355 I completely agree. I changed my stance over time, I used to dismiss the PED use and say he was a HoF before it so he should still get in, but he knowingly cheated and shall face the eternal consequences. It would diminish the prestige of the Hall if he’s enshrined.
@@aunch3 I agree that steroids doesn’t make you good, but it can make a good player great, and that is a problem. Bonds went from 34 HR to 73 HR. You can’t tell me steroids has no effect on a players ability. Bonds was already ahead of everyone skill wise, there is no reason why he had to cheat. But he did and shall face whatever consequences comes with that.
Thank you Barry for opening your heart onto us. This interview gave us all a better understanding of who you are. Everything makes so much more sense. I wished I had not taken you for granted as much as I did during the prime of your career. Only towards the end it was when I had no choice but to recognize that I was witnessing one of a kind talent. Thank you and I wish the world would receive you like you deserve. What a great human. This interview deserves millions of views. Barry’s baseball mind is worth studying by every baseball player in the world. “I mastered practice” wow!
Pretty great conversation. I was always just a little lukewarm on Barry, but I feel like I understand and appreciate him that much more after watching this. He seems incredibly self-aware, and I really like how he was clearly confident in his talent but at the same time is able to recognize and acknowledge the advantages he had (growing up in a great community [he says], his dad, his mom, his godfather [Willie Mays!], etc.). Much respect for arguably the greatest baseball player of all time.
@The Truth No thats incorrect. Factually Ted Williams is a better hitter than bonds. Just go look at their Baseball Refernce stat pages and compare them. Williams was a better hitter factually.
Say what you want about Barry, he belongs in the Hall of Fame. How is David Ortiz in but Barry isn't? Come on, man! Also, I like seeing this side of Barry he didn't show to the public often.
Interesting and eye opening video. Barry reminds me of Tiger, with the Dad thing and not knowing how to carry himself afterwards. Also, a resemblance with the way he handles fame and being an introvert. I get the privacy, but u gotta know that if you play a professional sport, introvert or not, they're (the media/fans) are coming at you. It would of been cool if he was told (by his mentors) on how to handle fame....not an easy thing, cause u can't please everyone. Good Luck Barry and any pro player on that journey!
Detroit guy, and it's awesome hearing the Jim Leyland stories. Loved Leyland here in Detroit. Wish the team could've pulled off one of the world series when he was here
Never really been a fan of Bonds personally, but there is no denying he is a HOF'er with or without PED's. He was hitting the ball out before he even started using so much so he was an MVP before he went to the Giants. What held him back like some other PED users is that he didn't come clean when confronted about his alleged steroid use. The way he was treating people in his personal life as well as team members and the media did not help the situation either. If he does not get in the HOF he has no one to blame but himself.
I love this interview. Barry I'm glad you came out and explained yourself, it makes more sense while you didn't talk to the press. I remember when Michael Jordan started basketball he had a stuttering problem, Bo Jackson had a stutter omg problem and Herschel Walker also had a studying problem and they didn't talk to the media either, I'm glad you came out and explained to everyone what is going on now that you're getting over your fears I'm sure more people would like to hear from you. People are going to say you're just doing this interview to get into the Hall of Fame trust me you're already in all of our Hall of Fame regardless. Again love this interview
Jordan didn't have a stuttering problem, you're likely thinking of Ron Harper. Bo was just incredibly shy but not a stutterer. You're in point with Herschel.
wow Barry Bonds was very deep person wow! I didn’t know how athletic he was! Barry Bonds skateboarding and Hockey and basketball Football!!! I want Barry Bonds in the Hall of fame but I don’t think he’ll be in because of the steroids unfortunately!!! He should be Hall of fame because he was putting up great numbers before 2001! Barry Bonds is my favorite baseball player ever
Lol...all these years people only hear one side of the guys personality and judge him based on edited interviews. When you hear just how much respect he has for the bay area and the people of the community you wonder where was this guy the whole time.
@@johndoughnut9350 never was one with me. i met him at the ball park. of course i wasn't with the media.I could understand why he would be one with the media seeing you as they like to edit what he says.
@@christhompson6010 Your personal anecdote means nothing in the context of this debate. Are you that naive? “He wasn’t a dick to me, so.....” Really? I just told you Barry made an admission that he was a jerk and how he has regrets about his behavior
@@johndoughnut9350 He may have had a good reason. making a judgment on a person that you don't know purely on media representation is about as predictable and stupid as it gets. Of course why should I be surprised. It seems to be the popular thing to due. Particularly in the age of the internet.
As kid I it didn't click that I was overheated with it bc it was my escape, it wasn't until I got to UK that I realized how much life I missed playing ball but I loved playing ball and there I wanted to do other things and unfortunately I did.
The Best of the Best! Aaron had Matthews half his career, Ruth had Gehrig half of his career, Mays had McCovey a half of his career, Banks had Williams half of his career,. Bonds stands alone. Would have had the 40/40 in '94 if it wasn't the strike. Achieved it in '96, they gave glory to Caminiti. Gets the 400/400 in '98 as they glorified McGwire/Sosa. They leave Bonds off the all century team, while glorifying some of his contemporaries. Oh yea, it's time to start doing what everybody else is doing. GOAT
