I wonder throughout the week what you’ll showcase next and I’m never disappointed. Even though I’m a fairly new subscriber, to me your channel is the Blacksmithing equivalent of The Woodwright’s Shop; You are able to demonstrate so many different things that can be done and you are quick to point out the different ways of achieving them. There’s a real earnestness and affability that you bring. Keep up the good work!

Relief wood carving also uses similar concepts, such as defining the outline and removing material to create the illusion of something standing out from the surface.

Every time I think I have come up with something clever to make a tool better, not only does it already exist, it has a commonly known name! First it was coming up with a treadle hammer that turns out to just be the Oliver hammer from the late 1800's, now it was using roller blading wheels and bearings to keep one in line! I love being humbled, and well, blacksmithing is a great way for that to happen a lot. Great video as always, and it is very meditative. Thank you for all these videos.

Not to smash my thumb, I'd need that hammer with the wide face. I never seem to hit the same place twice. Never seen a foot operated hammer before. I did see a peddle driven lathe a couple months ago at a museum.

Really nice job on the dish, John. I'm glad you mentioned that you might have expended some eight hours or so on the dish. That might help someone who is considering making things like this for sale at bazaars, flea markets. fairs, etc. They could then adjust their prices to reflect the amount of work that might go into making blacksmith items for sale.

SEVEN MINUTES! That’s usually about my limit for videos I would click on, but I’ve seen it extending more to about 15 lately with belt grinders and such. Your videos usually have such great info in them that I’m stuck, but I do find myself saying that I wish they were shorter (so I can watch more of them? ;$ ) I do skip a lot or watch at 1.25 out 1.5 speed tho. You do beautiful work and have gotten great with the videos. Really appreciate it. I might try this kind of a project too. Currently working on a set of wreath hooks for my wife to hang all over the buildings. She wants them consistent!?!?!? Haha Also, I’d support a series of videos to do that sconce again. That thing is beautiful! Thanks again!!!

Another beautiful piece and wonderful video. Being its Christmas i have this idea in my head and I feel like you are best to ask. Have you ever thought of making a snowman from a piece of pipe? I am thinking of using a fuller to shape it out of one piece of pipe. Just wondering you thoughts. Or even if you like the idea by all means I would love you to make a video of it.
