(www.transwest.com/locations/f...) The 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid isn't just fuel efficient on its own, but it's also capable of providing enough power to run an RV. Not just that, but it can also power two giant RVs. You don't need to bring a generator with you or pay for electricity at your camp site - you can do it right from your truck. Check it out!

Don’t think they’d add a hybrid to a HD truck
@EricFortuneJr.
@EricFortuneJr. 3 года назад
@@harveysingh8785 Actually it would be a better application, the battery pack doesn’t necessarily have to propel the truck. It can be used in the same manor as this setup and diesels are better suited for idling when necessary to charge all the batteries. Semi trucks have a similar feature that allows you use the truck batteries to run your APU, TV, microwave, fridge, cellphone chargers or whatever then it automatically cycles the engine to maintain the batteries. A 1 ton truck that doubles as a generator would be extremely useful and it could also be fitted with a lithium battery to power accessories.
@AkioWasRight
@AkioWasRight 3 года назад
@@EricFortuneJr. Diesels aren't suited for idling because they have particulate filters. After extended idle time, you would clog the filter. Another thing, modern light duty diesels are low compression and common rail, and they have wash down issues because idle temperatures aren't hot enough to completely burn the fuel. If you were to keep idling, you would fill the crankcase with raw fuel. So, idling a diesel to power up something would be out of the question.
@Matts000
@Matts000 3 года назад
@@AkioWasRight Ford Super Duty’s that are equipped with a diesel engine have a driver on command regeneration option for parked regen. So that would solve the DPF problem. And as far as idling the engine goes, I’m sure it would have a high Idol function for when the inverter was in use. Even this F150 was idling at 1500 RPM when it was running. Wouldn’t that keep the engine temperature up enough??
@kendrick5909
@kendrick5909 3 года назад
@@Matts000 That's a lot of fuel you're using to do all that. Still, even it works, I doubt it's good for the engine. High-idle and manual regeneration can be done, but it's bad for emissions stuff the long-run because the engines are meant to be under load. Simply powering a generator isn't enough. Lots of guys I know who high-idle their trucks still have tons of emissions issues because the engines need to be loaded down pretty hard to keep things clean.

One thing I just realized...my RV shore cable is nowhere near the truck bed. I would have to run a separate power input from the inverter to the front of the trailer. But this would be great to cool the trailer off before arriving at the destination, because it definitely gets very hot in Texas heat while traveling.

Here's my problem.. 7.2 kw is great... more than enough power to do ALOT of things. But not every trailer is wired at 240 volts. Infact very few are. So honestly for people RVing you have a 3.6 kw generator. Well... two of them actually. With a decent 240 splitter like you have here you can power your AC and your neighbors AC, but you can't power your one trailer that has two ACs. Why? @Xyler94
@Xyler94 2 года назад
@@gwot The engine only idles if the battery is depleted or you're drawing a ton of power. Otherwise, the engine is off. The Inverter uses the Hybrid's available inverter to power the plugs. The nice thing about Ford's Generator is that it's properly grounded by default, so it doesn't trip any ground fault sensors. And it's basically a full GFCI circuit also.
@gwot
@gwot 2 года назад
@@Xyler94 That still doesn't defeat my point. The hybrid battery's gonna last you roughly a day at full charge, which if Ford does their due diligent it'll never fully charge the battery under normal driving (unless they have a full charge button), you're gonna get 80% charge at best, and you're gonna lose 20% due to inverter inefficiency, so 60% available power. then it's back to my point, unless you're a 1 night RV camper or drive out everyday, it's idling. If your generator isn't properly grounded, that's on you, I don't see this as a bonus for Ford, it's a given.

6.7 powerstroke might not have enough space in the engine bay, but a gas engine with a higher power/torque electric motor should provide enough torque to be comparable to a diesel, but the only drawback will be it cannot provide torque for a long time for a long hill climbing, because the battery will be drained eventually.

Ford should have some sort of method where the electrical cords can be "passed through" and accessible to use when the tailgate is closed and a tonneau cover is keeping your tools, sporting goods yadda yadda all your junk out of reach of scum bags. @@santiagohills3997 it won't shut off if they are pulling constant current at this rate. it's only a 1.5kWh pack which will only run a 30A 110-volt AC plug most RVs have for about a half hour at full load without the engine starting. If people are inside their giant RVs and know that they can run whatever electrical appliances they want, they will. Microwave, space heaters whatever they have. When shore power is connected, lots of equipment automatically switch from propane to electric like the absorption 3 way fridge and water heater that will pull a lot of amps and the truck will just stay on to keep up that demand. Maybe when they finally go to sleep it will throttle off but it would be obnoxious as hell for everyone else there.

Kicking in to high idle is at least better than normal low idle to charge up but the fuel usage has to be more than a small generator.
