In this video I forge a pair of damascus wedding bands. I did not use a lathe or a mill during the process. These are the first rings I've ever made, it was quite the challenge but an overall great project!

How do you stop theo1 & 15n20 from rusting? Did you hot-wax them?

Great video! Question...did you coat the rings in anything to prevent rust? I made one damascus ring already and will be doing more soon. After wearing it for a day, it left a faint rust ring around my finger. I was thinking about giving it a very thin clear coat

You can use bees wax

Damascus is big fun no matter what you do with it. I'll be taking a damascus jewelry class with Nick Rossi js. at NESM in Auburn Maine next month. Thank you for sharing.

I've watched some videos and there are people that are soaking their damascus in coffee to really bring out the pattern.

I've had no issues with rust, it's been almost 4 years. The rings will lose some shine as they begin to gain patina but steel wool can bring the shine back if desired.

What steels did you end up using. I hope it was a 304 or 306

Just wondering what anvil you use. I’m looking to get into blacksmithing and am not sure which one to get.
@RichardsonForge
@RichardsonForge 6 лет назад
Tanner Markee they can be very pricey. Any big piece of steel will do! I’d avoid using cast iron for sure. Mine is made by NC and it’s their 70lb farrier anvil.

Nice rings, I've heard heat treating your Damascus can cause even greater contrast in the colour of the layers once etched, maybe something to thing about for future Damascus projects. Keep up the great work, loving the videos.

Antstar12 a heat treated Damascus ring would also make a great self defense tool

So I'm gonna attempt this, if I want to use stainless steel, which two(or three) types should I use?
@RichardsonForge
@RichardsonForge 5 лет назад
Billy Bob I’m not very experienced with stainless damascus yet. Just know the forge welding process is very different. Stainless needs to be welded in an oxygen free environment, with either caps on the billet or inside a canister.

What's the point specifying it requires no lathe ? With all the tools you're using, it's not like de could do it at home with a screw driver. It's like saying hey, you're gonna need a nuclear reactor, 20 cubic meters of rocket fuel, an asteroid, an alien head, but hey, it's ok, you don't need a lathe !...
@tkkjayne
@tkkjayne 3 года назад
Because there are a ton of smiths out there that have the ability to make damascus but can afford a $3,000.00 lathe. The fact that you think the press and the forge are the equivalent of a nuclear reactor, rocket fuel, an asteroid, and an Alien head tells me you are not the target audience of this particular video. I hear there's youtube channels where kids unbox toys, maybe you should check one of those out?
