Those things should never be forgotten. The trauma should be remembered, but the forgiving removes the pain and allows wounds to heal, not remain infected ...and possibly infect others ?

I cannot imagine how the gentleman from Cambodia survived what he went through.. physically, mentally. It doesn’t compute what the human brain can imagine. I just want to hug him and tell him how sorry I am he went through this. There are no words.. 💔💔💔

I have friends that were born during the genicide in Cambodia. Their parents all perished. Many of them that were old enough to remember the events, had very serious heart problems early on in their lives. Many have already passed at tender ages like 18, 22, and the most recent was just 36 😔 She had just married and was about to have her 1st child. We lost both of them. She’d be 50 this year. Her kiddo would’ve been a teen.

@@lucycarola1975-1979 war ended 1979. If they died at the age of 18-22 that would of been in the mid and early 1998. They died from gang banging( gun shots) if they lived in USA. There were many Cambodians kids at that time in a gangs. Heart problems, depression etc effected majority of the older Cambodians and they didn't die they just live with it. What you're stating doesn't make any sense. I'm Cambodian I was born 1975 i don't remember what me and my family went through. I've never heard kids died the cuased was from Genocide lol they wouldn't remember. You need to get your story straight.

The gentleman from Cambodia story is similar to mine. I was a lot younger than him, so my memory i remembering was vividly . During khmerouge, I was separated from my sister and my siblings. I would cry all the time missing my parents and siblings. I remember vividly my older brother came to my camp run away to see my parents. I remember I had to walk into a warmp where water went up to my neck. We didn't make it to see my parents. We got caught by them and put in the detention where they don't give us any food. I remember a lot. Seeing a dead person burn on a motorcycle . Dang, I could write a story.

My friend worked as a nurse on the Thailand border, they had thousands of cambodians coming into the camps every day from across the border, i salute all the medical staff etc.. from across the world who were there. My friend is irish and she was paid 75 dollars a month....

Mary Johnson your story is so poignant. I have no doubt none of the good things you have in your life would have come had you not started to forgive . Of course this goes for all the others featured ....but a mothers love for her child ...this selfless love is something on another level and it takes something truly powerful for that to continue and flourish under those terrible circumstances. What an amazing documentary

I grew up next to a large Cambodian family, and frankly I'm still somewhat horrified no one ever bothered to teach us their history in school. I had no idea what that awesome man and his wife and oldest daughter had been through, and I just wish at some point in my life I'd known enough to embrace him with that understanding before he passed away. I remember when I first cooked jasmine rice for myself, the scent punched me in the face and I blossomed with the understanding that's what their house always smelled like. When I learned the recent history of Cambodia in my 20s, it was a much more awful punch to the gut.

Thank you for posting this. I eas able to forgive forgive Russell somehow and no one could understand how i could forgive a mam that almost killed me and his baby i was pregnant with. And I wish i had told him. He died last August.

You made the right decision to free yourself of unforgiveness. You needed to be released of that burden...whether or not he knew that you forgave him, doesn't really matter, especially if he wasn't repentant or remorseful. I hope you've moved on happily with your life

Be kind to yourself. It took her 12 years to get to that point. We are all on a path to being better people. Some just take longer to get there due to pre-existing beliefs, environment, unforeseen hurdles, but if we are lucky we can get, at least, close before we die.

Peace is the byproduct of forgiveness. Once you've hurt long enough, bad enough. You'll finally want to heal. Forgiveness is the first step in that process.

Our sermon in church today was about forgiveness. and I was thinking about people in jail that had come to Christ and are saved, and it really made me think of Jesus saying father forgive them they don't know what they are doing This was a great doc .

Forgiveness without the Foundation of Jesus Christ, leaves you looking at your strength, but human strength is Fallen. It will be incredibly easy to fall back into that pain without Jesus Christ. I do not understand the woman’s story about being inappropriately separated from her parents and placed into foster care. There is discussion about what the Australian government did to Aboriginal families - taking these children away. She is clearly not Aboriginal.

She may be of mixed race, those children were definitely targeted by the government for removing them from their families and placing in “schools.” There’s a movie about the removal of Aboriginal children from their families “The Rabbit Fence.” The mother forgiving her son’s killer was so sad and touching, strong woman. Last gentleman was so young for such traumatic experiences, he lost his childhood and family.

Australia aint perfect , nowhere is, but comparing it to living under Pol Pot in any way is ridiculous. The chaos and devastation in Indo China/Vietnam Cambodia and Laos in the late 20century was something truly horrific but in amongst that what the Kymer Rouge did was another level of evil completely.

whoever wrote the poem is 'a nasty person' discrimination , and favoring of mothers, deliberately leaving out fathers, who also ''suffer '' and no recognition is given to fathers in the same as for mothers, this is because society ''control' people such as this this, control how they want you think'' dictating to society.
