The Panther G is probably the least played Panther in War Thunder. I actually see less of these than the locked Panther II. A shame really, it's such an AMAZING tank!
The Panther G is mixed bag of pros and cons. On one hand the mantlet offers good protection against shot traps but on the other it creates a larger weak spot on the turret face much more so than the Panther A and Panther D! In my own opinion it's a much worse design for War Thunder assuming we disregard its purpose in real life.
The chassis as well feels like a direct downgrade over the Panther A. Its reverse speed feels much slower, acceleration is pretty poor in comparison and it also has a Cupola the size of Jupiter.
This vehicle is almost completely superseded by the Panther A in every way in War Thunder but sits at a much higher Battle Rating. This just seems to be the way for German Tanks in War Thunder.

not every Ausf.G had the Kinnblende. It was introduced in the G Mid production and was only placed on every second-third tank. Thats why you can find plenty of late G´s without it. I guess the reason was that small parts like the mantlet where already produced and they had a big stock of those

because the game doesn't reflect the improvements namely due to you not needing to deal with the issues it fixed irl. Unless of course you want to deal with engine overheating, transmission breakdowns, poor driver visibility and even more shottraps. :)

2:34 The Panther G in War Thunder does indeed have a weaker engine than the Panther A (iirc 600 hp instead of 700 hp) to simulate the engine governor that was installed to it that limited the HL230 to 2500 rpm.

@@gargantuanfish7187 Reliability issues, I believe. The HL230 was prone to overheating and breakdowns so one of the measures they did to mitigate that was limit the engine to 2500 rpm.

@@gargantuanfish7187 They did add additional ventilation later on, but the engine compartment was watertight so the Panther could ford rivers (in case bridges couldn't handle its hefty 45-ton weight) and so prone to overheating. Limiting the engine also helps improve its lifetime and slow down wear, and I doubt the 100 hp less power was an ultimately decisive factor in the combat performance of the Panther.

Let me get this straight. Gaijin have made the first iteration of the Panther built in WW2 be a better tank than the late war G version which had all sorts of improvements to it's performance. Okay... makes total sense. Battle simulator my foot.

Ground battles are as far from a simulated experience as you can get, so I don't know why that surprises you. Also the improvements made to the Panther G aren't improvements that apply in game, as a lot of them are to do with issues not present in the game such as reliability and visibility. With a better vision optic for the driver, more reliable transmission and a speed governor to stop engine overheating which was a big issue with the previous Panthers. Also given the engagement distances irl vs ingame the chin is much more valuable irl, and the game doesn't reflect that as you have to deal with more powerful guns and at closer unrealistic ranges.

If I remember correctly, the D is FOR SOME REASON the initial version of the vehicle. It makes no sense, but germans aren't exactly efficient at all in hindsight.

that’s where you are wrong tho, the early war panthers performed much better than the later war models due to the metals Germany was using at the end of the war.

optics do be impenetrable. Just took a look at Tiger H1 bc i was having some trouble penning them. Found out it's strongest point in the whole tank is the optics. Front plate is around 100mm thick, but somehow the optics say it has effective thickness of 300mm. Anyone would think that's a weak point as it isnt completely armored, there's a fucking hole in the middle but gaijin says "fuck u and ur logic" so it is thrice as effective to shoot directly at the front place instead of aiming for the "weak point"

@@declanpm8578 the Tiger I has impenetrable driver optics. Makes the T-34 look like an amateur. 300mm RHA equivalent, you need to have sabot or dart ammo or HEATFS to even consider trying to pen it.

Please play the 76 Jumbo Odd! As you might be able to tell from my pfp it is my absolute favorite tank in the game and I would love to see you feel the joy of playing it. Edit: I suggest bringing the F8F and AD-4 out with it, both fabulous planes for GRB (or the F4U-4B if you wanna go bankrupt)

@@rodrigocardoso8522 110mm instead of 100mm on the small flat parts of the turret wont make any difference at 5.7. The panther f has 130mm of flat turret armor which was actually a challange for some tanks including the t34 85 with the first shell

They should all be at 6.0 besides the the Panther D, it’s not right for the easy 8 and the T-34-85 to be the same br with something that shares similar if not better characteristics to the ARL-44 as a medium tank

the reason the G feels slower than the A is because it had a speed governor installed to help with engine overheating, so it doesn't hit quite as high speeds.

@@abroamg it’s damn near impossible to kill a good panther player without catching them off guard which is difficult if they have awareness. I just got the panther because I was tired of being killed by it, it feels like playing the game on easy mode. The only complaint I have at all is that the turret traverse is kinda bad, but that’s it. I’m sorry but i just fucking hate when people throw around the word skill issue without thinking. It’s not a skill issue, it’s unbalance and bullshit.
