Former Pike County Sheriff Charlie Reader addressed the court Wednesday morning before being sentenced to a three-year prison term for theft in office and tampering with evidence.
Hell yeah he got rid and hid drugs and shit for someone related to him but the person dating his relation he stopped and blackmailed er to er face I was shook and pissed how corrupt this piece of trash was and is
It was not his first time. He never thought he would get caught because he was well practiced at abusing his authority. He did not have an "at that moment" event.
I wonder whether tears ever worked when alleged offenders cried. He talks about working honourably for 25 years. And yet he stole, intimidate his staff. Yes, that is exactly who he is. Notice how everyone who gets caught always says that is not who I am.

IF the sherriff is crooked and so corrupt then the deputies should be investigated or at least reviewed in their job performance. His sentence should be doubled because of breaking the trust with the public.
I totally agree! Why is everyone turning a “blind cheek” to his past performance? If not, maybe they will be fired. The city and its councilmen don’t care. They can’t miss their tee-off time at the country club!
He continues to lie and justify himself. He is doing himself no good. I think the judge was trying to give him an opportunity to demonstrate his remorse when she asked him the question about why he took the money. He blew it big time. Three years!
Keep in mind. He is not the Only LE officer doing this stuff. Law Enforcement all over the country have done this and even much much worse but usually they don't get caught or they investigate themselves and find nothing wrong. FACTS
My sister's husband was a high ranking sheriff in Ohio and he was stealing guns from the evidence room and reselling them and he was caught and lost everything his pension and he even solved a murder case anyways he was sentenced to 10yrs in prison and stripped of everything he worked so proudly for only to take vacations to Aruba and beyond. For what selling hot guns off the streets and so I wanted to say these types of people should be treated the same way as any thief steals especially under trust. I'd like to know how much time did he get

Why is the judge entertaining conversation with this common criminal? if he accepts responsibility for his crimes, why is he begging for "community control?" Because he DOESN'T accept any responsibility, pure and simple. Reader is an admitted liar, cheater, thief, and abuser of his power and position, yet he is begging for mercy? And what are all the tears for? He has embarrassed himself, his position, his community, and his family. Yet, he wants mercy? The judge should ask him if he believes in justice. If he says YES, then give it to him. Next case please!
Not the first deputy in Pike Co that was crooked and won't be the last. This definitely was not the first time this happened. He trained and worked with other bad cops and the cycle will continue.
I don't feel sorry for someone like this. You shouldn't have been stealing and you'd steal have your job. You where caught now pay the price like everyone else has to.
We need harder sentences for cops and more often. No cop should get a plea deal or special reduction in sentences. They should be held to a higher standard
Every case he ever oversaw should be throwed out. He admitted to acting as Judge and Jury by stealing money. Wow. You know how many people who got in trouble wish they could attend a graduation, attend a wedding, be able to see their sick parents or to finally be a spouse after 20 years of wrong doing. It's pretty clear he feels sorry for himself because he was caught. He should never be allowed to hold any job in law enforcement. Where were his supervisors?
This family was far from innocent, however, I can't help but wonder how many potentially innocent people he put behind bars by tampering with evidence and misconduct. Highly doubtful that this would have been his first offense.
And he just lied to the judge about his dad being on a ventilator. Fortunately, she did her due diligence and spoke with the nurse. What an embarrassment.

Why do they think crying is going to help they treat everyone else like garbage but when it’s time for them to serve their time they need to be with their families see their children grow but all of us are just garbage and should be imprisoned for life

I'm glad that judge is stiff any other time it would be some back door pay offs and everybody would have walk way its happen alot in like county i would like for them to go through the last 25 yr of his case and see how much more money he and his crew stolen some can sell for every some sell and they go away for a long time u know what I mean
The "judge" should get 3 years for criminal collusion. Police chiefs often demand the harshest treatment possible for lawbreakers. Any crime by a sworn civil servant in the justice system- cop to judge- deserves far more punishment than citizens for the same charge. Chiefs and prosecutors in particular as they are accessories in allowing crimes by rank and file officers. Such betrayers of all Americans should receive mandatory maximum sentences like they push for lesser offenders. They are the worst kind of criminal so systemic corruption is made clear by the lighter sentences given to these traitors
Another "just answer the question" moment. Judge: "Why did you think the money was safer in a lockbox in your truck than in your safe?" Reader: "The money was used....The State has claimed....The confidential informant said......." Instead he presented his defense. Again. I'm still waiting for his answer, it must be out there somewhere. Reader said he takes responsibility for the crimes, but he spends over 15 minutes justifying why he broke the law. PTSD, my ass. Glad the judge saw through his b.s.
