While he gets 40 months in prison; it should be noted that he loses his pension, retirement benefits, paid sick and vacation, social security, 401k, and much more. Also, he’s barred from holding a federal job for life. Getting a job elsewhere would be extremely difficult given that no employer wants to hire him.

I always wonder about thieves like this. Did he really think he could get away with this forever? Almost 2 million dollars and he still wasn't stopping? I am not saying it is right but if thieves would stop after maybe $50,000 they might have a better chance of getting away with it. It reminds me of a story I heard of some criminal who put a line of code into bank software that when other people throughout the system were getting paid interest it would take a penny from each of their interest payments and give it to him. This went on for quite some time with no one being the wiser. If he had stopped after the first few million he never would have been caught but eventually there was a glitch and they found him out.

disagree, there’s a reason why thieves prefer going after private carriers. Tampering with usps mail is a federal crime, and the POIG is pretty serious about going after suspected thieves. It’s draconian, brutal even, and I hope it never goes away 😄 edit: but yeah they were relatively soft on him here. Welp his future prospects are gone anyway
