Our education system is broken. There is no way these women will ever be able to explain all of the reasons why these teachers chose to cheat in 13 minutes. I’m going into my 11th year teaching and I have never participated in cheating, but it’s not surprising that people have.

They wanted to keep their failing schools open for job security and cash bonuses. 13 out of the 44 implicated schools received a combined $500,000 in merit pay bonuses and superintendent Beverly Hall accepted $580,000 in “performance” bonuses during her tenure. If the schools are failing so badly the government wants to shut them down then so be it. Close them and let the kids go to good schools where they can achieve.

I was a student in Atlanta public schools when the cheating scandal happened. I saw my teacher give one of the dumb students answers. The CRCT back then wasnt hard at all. Some teachers just weren't good at teaching, so they restored to cheating because they needed to keep their jobs. I just graduated class of 2019 in aps...they've made alot of changes since then but its mostly damage control.

I recommend everyone get a book titled “None of the Above: The untold story of the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal, corporate greed and the criminalization of educators by Shania Robinson” she was one of the innocent convicted teachers. She tells her story and how she got caught up in the scandal as well as a play by play of how the scandal came to be the APS scandal and all the systems that have been put in place to harm our black students. It’s goes further than just NCLB. It’s a great read!

People in the comments section talking about rich people do it too.....those rich kids have opportunities waiting for them when they leave school our black kids dont. Instead, they have a 80 - 90% chance of getting caught up with the justice system which affects their ability to earn a decent living and be productive if they have little to no education. So why are we comparing our circumstances with theirs. The education of our black children is very essential to the survival of our race and should be taken very seriously. Also, there should also be consequences for lazy parents who arent playing their role in ensuring a good education for their child. So again, good question Frank towards the end, pandering wont get us anywhere because it sounds like the teachers that actually cheated was trying to protect their job seeing that the school was in jeopardy of shutting down.

Education is not essential if the test are purposely bias towards "urban" children and the schools are under funded and overcrowded..And what does education matter when them white kids cheat to get a spot at a school a black kid deserved? And what does education matter when you graduate college and lose job opportunities to those same privilege white kids? It's not about education. It's about ownership. Owning our own schools. Educating our own kids. And providing job opportunities to our own kind. How can we compete in a system that was "designed" for us to fail? Answer: We don't! We create our own system. And if the teachers felt as if the test were too hard which would result in a high failure rate which then resulted in them cheating to keep their job. Then the no child left behind law is unjust. And "If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." - Thomas Jefferson.. and this is just my humble opinion...🤷

@@BritBrat444 so are u saying that the answer to those issues is to give students a passing grade when the teacher knows they arent learning anything? You do know that the average reading level of black male prisoners is 4th grade some of which actually graduated high school. We've rightfully blame the system and lazy parents for failing students but very rarely are lazy teachers held SOME of these incompetent teachers accountable for not doing their job. I know great teachers who knew how to take the state's flawed curriculum and tweek it to the point where the students could learn and excel but also there teachers who's just there for a pay check, who couldn't care less whether or not the students, many of which have been teaching years without any reprimand for not doing their job adequately...those are the ones I'm referring to. Isnt it amazing that this is the only profession in which one cant be fired for not doing what they're being paid to do.

@@julesgordon1109 I'm saying that an unjust law is no law at all..and a flawed ancient system is impossible to fix. Even if you think better teachers is the solution. I feel like you are passionate about education like I am.
