Former New York Rangers Captain and Scott Hartnell give their thoughts on the developing situation surrounding defenseman Tony DeAngelo, who has played his last game for the organization.
@@LetsGoWrongboarding no, you shouldn’t. Where someone leans on the political spectrum doesn’t define them and it’s not your place to say otherwise. That’s something people like you should really take into consideration. The party of “inclusion and tolerance” is bogus, full of the most intolerant and hypocritical people.
@@LetsGoWrongboarding That was short lived. Anyone relishing in cancel culture of Tony DeAngelo will be sorely disappointed. TSN's Darren Dredger reports last night on "Insider Trading" after the first period of Montreal-Vancouver game, that there is a ton of interest in Tony DeAngelo all of the sudden and he will be traded within the next few days, possibly in a deal with other assets with Calgary for Sam Bennett. He will be in the NHL sooner than later.
People say he's a locker room cancer. He's more than that, he's a LEAGUE cancer. He earned his way in, and he's earned his way out. He's had multiple chances to change his ways and at 25, he isn't changing. Off to Russia Tony..
Could be a mental health issue. If it is, how would the team/ league treat it (so far they’re seemingly making this very public) Telling someone with major depression (for example) to go fuck themselves (essentially) is a bad look. FWIW, I know nothing about the guy even as a hockey player drafted by “my” team. I’m not saying he has a mental health disorder. Just speculating/ hypothetical
@@LoSTRaMaiR well if it's a mental health issue, that's something that should be addressed. Seems he just has a bully mentality. And I think he's racist. That Miller kid that's half black(I think) scored his first NHL goal the other night and they usually keep the puck in that instance. Report was D'angelo either hid it or got rid of it. But Lafrenierre scored his first too and it was given to him
@@SamuelDuplessis12 Still could. The media always respected the hell out of Hartsy though, because he was such a good get for an interview. He'd give you something rather than just coach speak it. Like Bieksa, he is a likeable dude, respected by everyone on the ice, and knows a lot about the game.
i get you can’t expect everyone to have a 10/10 personality, but you also shouldn’t expect the rest of the team to perform at their best with the stage 5 cancer that TDA is.
Yup. D'angelo has proven time and time again that he's a massive piece of shit. And he's not a kid anymore. At 25 years old, he is who he is. Send him to Russia
I was a captain for 4 years on my men's league team, nothing ruins a team like a guy that is cancer in the locker room. We won 2 championships in 3 years, but on year 4 we were forced to take a player who was cancer in the locker room, half the team quit, I just rode it out till the end of the season. Now we are still in covid lockdown.
@@looloo6322 ....OOOOOuuuuuu...THE CAPTAIN !!! The first thing I do is CHIRP the BOZO on a MEN'S LEAGUE TEAM wearing a "C" on his jersey....What a Self Absorbed DOUSCHE !!! NEXT.....
@@dinopappous6639 Captain isn't a glamorous position in men's league, it's the guy who buys the shirts, get the printing done, makes sure everyone gets the number they want. On game day call all the players to make sure they remember the game, get some of them out of the bar 10 minutes before game time, sets up the lines and listens to people bitch about playing time , refs and the zamboni driver. So it's a thankless job, has nothing to do with skill, scoring or playing ability. So actually you are the douche bag, and I routinely knock the crap out of ass wipes like yourself on and off the ice.
@@dinopappous6639 Come to ice den , Scottsdale Arizona for open hockey on Wednesdays, I always play #12 in white, with the Arizona Coyotes red pants, introduce yourself so I can knock the teeth back in your fucking head.
“Monitor his social media use” in other-words, his political views don’t align with the rest of the sporting world. If the kid was posting things in support of the other side of the aisle, he’d be getting pats on the back. We know this. For the record, I’m not making excuses for the rest of his behavior outside of his political alignment.
He won't be missed. K'Andre Miller and Adam Fox are here now. Nils Lundquist and Brandon Schneider are on the way. Did he put up points? Yes, in one season. Before that he was struggling to stay in the lineup and got sent down and benched or scratched because he's always been a disaster in his own zone. He was a pylon in the playoffs and was a dumpster fire this season. On top of that he chirped his own goalie after an OT Loss...a loss where he was on the ice for 4 or the 5 goals against and did nothing help AG out. AG and ADA had issues with each other when they were in HFD together and ADA has had issues with other players in the room as well. Taking him on was a mistake and it's blown up in JG's face as they have to manage this crisis and on top of that move a problematic player who carries a 4.4 mil AAV who is not playing right now. Good luck finding a team that will take him off your hands now, you'd be lucky to get a turkey sandwich and a 5th round pick while having to retain half his salary. He'll end up collecting his money, wait to be bought out and probably end up in Europe where he will bounce from team to team as he continues to wear out his welcome wherever he goes. And none of this decision had to do with the abhorrent stuff he'd put out on Twitter either. No one wants to say it, but there are a lot more people in the NHL who agree with the things he'd say but would never admit it and NYR told him he could keep doing it but he had to "watch his tone." Hence the name of that cringefest of a podcast of his. I'm glad he's gone, but it has come far too late. At least the team can finally move on without having to deal with that kind of a cancer in the locker room.
Yes agreed. A lot of people on TV period have the same views as Tony D. Sports, news etc. but are smart enough not to say it because that is the way they make their living. Tony had a lot of other issues obviously as well.
In the old days if he didn’t change his attitude he’d have it changed for him. Imagine him pulling this shit with Gordon Howe, Steve Yzerman, Mark Messier or Zdeno Chara.
No one talks about anger issues or possibly drug or mental issues with him.I hope he gets the help that he needs cause he’s a pretty darn good player when he wants to be.
People like him never realize that. He’ll go on blaming people wondering why he was singled out. Knew a guy that never even took responsibility for crashing his car drunk was just pissed off about it
No, I don't think so either....guys like him will just get angrier and angrier, and make lame attempts to blame others for his shortcomings. I can't even imagine what this guy will be like as a senior, if he rubs this many people the wrong way at this age!
Nhl network needs better exposure. It's a joke they have only 2k subscribers . Maybe use some of the cash you earn from charging a ridiculous amount for nhl live.
Fox, Trouba, and Miller are more than capable of filling in on the power play. Hell, Miller deserves more time from what I've seen. That kid is feeling it so far.
@@ricketycricket4361 Dude is a defensive liability at best. He puts up points on the PP, but that's about it. Even still you have Panarin on his one time side, and it will open up room for anybody you put there.
Some canucks fan uncovered Tony's fake twitter account and convinced him to a, reveal himself and b, that he was being traded to vancouver. The greatest troll job in sports history. Search mrbooth_7
This is the third team to dump him for being a cancer right? I think the rest of league is smart enough to steer clear. Three strikes, you’re.... in the KHL
For context, this had nothing to do with DeAngelo's politics. Nothing has everything to do with him being a piece if shit who has been a terrible teammate going back to playing in junior.
Deangelo is a cry-baby plain and simple. Even the majority of NBA players are more mature. Was hoping to see his burner account whining in the comments tho...
The problem here is the hiring of Coach David Quinn who has failed this team and caused the trouble with the team chemistry and morale. He has played favorites to veterans and can’t coach the young kids as is evident with his handling with Kappo Kakko and Lafreniere getting ice time plus with the team, juggling of lines, playing favorite to certain players and the use of power play unit 1, juggling with goalies and their psyche. Quinn should not be the Head Coach. That’s the problem. Tony DeAngelo has issues but he is a talented young player but the Rangers play Smith, Johnson etc. no discipline by the Coach. No structure by the head Coach. Quinn has to go. Win tonight or not I still want a real head coach with NHL coaching experience and a coach that knows how to be a players coach. This Coach is an macho idiot. What are you going to get for Tony DeAngelo anyway. A bag of pucks?? You ruined his value by not handling him correctly. His off ice behavior on social media is his business. We have the 1St Amendment and the right to free speech. To make that an issue is stupid. Of course we have Mr. Genius reporter Larry Brooks who seeks problems and loves to stir trouble in his writing articles. Brooks loves stirring controversy. I hope Kakko recovers and this is not a ploy by Quinn to get rid of our young Franchise Superstar player #2 Overall in 2019 draft who has a lot of swagger and is extremely talented and deserves tons of ice time. Again look at the Powerplay unit 1. Same line- Buchnevich, Mika, Panarin, Kreider, same line. Produces only 1 goal tonight. Need to take Buchnevich off line 1 of Power play 1 and insert Lafreniere or Kakko. They are our future Franchise Superstars. Move Mika on power play unit 2 or Krieder. This line has done crap except blast the puck foolishly and miss. There needs to be more creativity out there. It’s enough already. Quinn does not know how to use his young talent and he was brought here to coach young talent. JD has to step up and fire Quinn. Quinn is also responsible for creating the culture in the locker room. He is not good for this teams future. He only wants those same veterans to make himself look great. Mika has got to get it going. By the way, his long hair makes him look like a girl or is he a hockey player or rock star. Cut your hair Mika. It might help. I can’t stand Jeff Gorton.Terrible GM. Give the GM job to Chris Drury.
Clara you’re garbage. A troll. I don’t know where you are. Or who you are. But I will find you. I will browse the entire internet rejecting your copy/paste job hack hit jobs on any platform. As Bombay said to Riley, “YOU’RE GOING DOWN!”
Callahan said he’s all about second and third chances. DeAngelo was drafted by the Lightning, he was on the Coyotes, and he was on the Rangers. He’s had THREE CHANCES to prove himself!!
And now in 2022 idiot Chuck Fletcher traded for a toxic player and hired a toxic coach in John Tortorella. DeAngelo has now had FIVE chances to prove himself. DeAngelo and Tortorella are gonna go together as well as water and electricity.
Not a fan of TonyD’s political views but that’s not the point. Point is he was warned of he fucked up he would be sent packing. And that’s exactly what JD has done. You fuck up at a job you get fired. Plain and simple.
What happened to professionalism? Players publicly demanding trades, fighting with teammates. Nobody is going to want guys like that, they’re poison. So unless you’re Connor McDavid (who never does ANYTHING out of line) behave yourself.
He’s a DeAngelo. A real angel. 👼 ok seriously, he was great with the Canes and he’s back in his hometown, Philly. Watch his Knuckles podcast with Riley Cote and the equipment manager guy.
This situation says more about rest of the team and coaching staff TBH. Why was he scratched 2 games for a bad penalty? Only fringe players get that treatment
DEangelo wasn't in the LT plan IMO .... several young dmen coming .. the most prominent is Nils Lundkvist 2018 1st round #28 .. offensive ability but better defensively than DeA ....currently in the SHL and contract soon to be up .. speculation in the off season Rangers would trade DeA to make room for him then ... so I expect he'll sign and cross the pond soon...
Bottom line is his social media is why the Rangers let him go and they'll never admit it. You don't resign a guy a few months earlier for $10 million if he was that bad in the locker room. Teammates get into fights all the time. The fact that he's a well known Trump supporter and is vocal about his feelings is why the Rangers, and no other team wants him. The NHL's woke cancel culture is alive and well.
@@jstreim No he's absolutely right. He wouldn't have become this bad of a teammate in the past 10 games. It has EVERYTHING to do with his political views.
@@jstreim How so? No only do you fail to enunciate your position, you dismiss mine without any reasoning. I'm completely incorrect because you say I am? Typical Leftist.
If I hear that Tony was released because of his social media posts and political beliefs, I will boycott the Rangers. I completely understand that some guys are bad team players, and sometimes it’s best to part ways. I don’t think a mans political beliefs should be a problem
Did you not watch the video? he was on his last strike after back to back temper tantrums got him scratched and then he tried to fight his own goalie after a game that was 75% his fault we lost
@@NeilM I don’t doubt it. The Pittsburgh top like killed the Rangers top line all series long. Zibanijad may still be suffering from the damages of Covid 19. No doubt Tony was wrong for his comment to Georgiev. I don’t want to come off as an apologist for Tony. I do think his politics are being held against him. If not it would not be constantly brought up by Rangers management
I'll miss Tony. Thesd kinds of things happen all the time inside locker rooms and the players deal with it internally like men. The real reason he got canned was the fanbase. NY is very far left for the most part and thank Christ I left years ago. The fans were never gonna forgive his right wing views especially after the capital riot. The PR fallout from anything he said or did would've been considerable from here on out so they manufactured this problem by giving him a 2 game benching for taking a penalty. Can you imagine Quinn giving Artemi Panarin 2 games off for a penalty? Or kreider? Fox? It had everything to do with politics. They know a majority of the fanbase hate tony and wouldn't be that upset with the decision. I hope Tony finds a team soon cuz I need a new team to cheer for.
Teammates fight all the time, especially in scrimmages. He is being black balled because he goes against the NHL's wokeness of "We skate for black lives" agenda.
