Lieutenant Dan defending Forrest when she asked if his friend was stupid is one of the most heart warming moments of this film. He may have seemed angry all the time but he knew what Forrest had to go through growing up
Lt. Dan Taylor is one of the best examples of character development in movie history. He was a slave to his own family history and tradition, he never anticipated life outside the Army and Forrest was the only one at that time who never saw Lt. Dan any differently. Him and Bubba were Forrest's only TRUE friends.
He also knew the hell Forrest had to go through to turn off his mind and just run through the underworld to grab all those guys even if it meant he died. Forrest may not have fully grasped the situation, but to a guy like Dan, if he was going though "war fatigue" (an old name for PTSD before it had a name) from losing his legs, then Forrest had to be going through hell trying to understand himself carrying literally pieces of men back to the LZ, some of them dying in his arms, crying out for their families or begging Forrest to end them mercifully or to let them stay there so he could help people who weren't bleeding out from body parts that were now fertilizing soil on an island they couldn't pronounce the name of for reasons they didn't know other than "freedom".
When Forrest asks Jenny about his son…’is he smart or is he…….He couldn’t finish the sentence and gestures towards himself, it was the most heart wrenching moment of the movie to me! A great movie!
@@nsasupporter7557 that was the part that broke me in this film... you really dont find something like that just anywhere. sometimes, you dont find something like that at all.
I was diagnosed with aspbergers syndrome as a kid, a subsection of autism, and whilst he’s never specifically stated to have any diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders…this is indeed a fear I have should I ever be fortunate to meet someone who wanted to settle down and start a family with me… I would certainly want children, but I recall clearly so many of the difficulties I had growing up and even to this day have with socialising and such…so it’s a legitimate fear to have.
@@trayolphia5756 I can tell you this I've known and been good friends with people whom have Aspergers and met thier soulmate and been married many years and have a daughter off at college now. There's plenty of hope!
His foundation has raised over 3/4 of a billion dollars for wounded vets. He and his band "Lt. Dan Band" have played for veteran's events for decades...
Forrest Gump is one of those movies that make me re-think my life and look at it from a very simplistic perspective, just like Forrest did. He just did things.
I always tear up when Forrest’s mom tells him to come back safe from Vietnam, because of all of the men who didn’t make it back. All gave some, some gave all.
21:10 One detail I liked was when he was leaving college and the army recruiter asked him "Have you given any thought to your future?", Forrest didn't reply "Future??", like most of us would when we think about things. He replied "Thought??". Just set up how his life was going to just drift along without any planning.
As a kid who watched this movie 9-10 years after it’s release I can say it’s in my top 5 favorite of all time. Will also admit it’s a movie I can rewatch over and over again. Also love that you guys enjoyed it cuz it’s a movie that many people will love and enjoy
As someone who was born and raised in the American South, I can confidently say that the most accurate part of this movie is that we will sit next to a complete stranger and end up telling our entire life story. Seriously, I've done it to two people in the past week, and it's happened to me at least five times in the same week. We are a talkative people. There's a reason you don't hear Southern accents in movies about the FBI or CIA. We just never shut up.
Hilarious and true except for Texas. Texas probably has too many transplants. Quick story. I managed a Ryans Steakhouse 30 years ago and the corporate training was in Greer SC. They taught us to lower ourselves to eye level with the customers and get feedback on the food. South Carolina people wouldn't stop talking. I get to my store in Mishiwaka IN (Notre Dame) and people kept eating and completely ignored me. I stopped after 2-3 nights. South of Indy though and it's basically the South
41:26 The moment Forrest finds out he's a daddy. That was the moment I was waiting for, and Laura's reaction did not disappoint. Same with Magy's smug "I know what's about to happen, and it's going to blow your mind" look lol. Thank you, Magy, for showing this to her.
@@nsasupporter7557 I disagree. I think there's enough implication to assume that's Forrest's son. The timing works out to Jenny's last night staying with Forrest. Also, they make a point to show they share some of the same mannerisms
Agree.. he probably is Forrest's son. Sadly, that moments is what kills this movie for me. I can see forgiving and living through everything. Jenny definitely was in the wrong throughout, but I completely understand what she was running from and had to get through. I don't think I could ever get past being left out of my own child's early life, though. That was where I feel she really did him wrong.
It’s great to see you introducing Laura to classic movies like this even though you’ve reacted to them before. I loved seeing Laura experience this movie with you. This was such a beautiful and heartwarming reaction full of joy, laughs and tears. Incredible as always from you both. Thank You Laura & Magy.
Fun fact: there is a sign by the side of the road just north of Monument Valley that marks the spot where Forrest stopped running! I stopped by there a few years ago on a cold winter day, and there were foreign tourists there as well taking photos. It was on Google Maps to find the location. Pretty cool 😁
Forrest has the gift to save persons from their fears. He has a pure soul, just doing things because of the very good education from her mama. The most emotional scene for me is when he discovers he is a father and he asks if little Forrest is like him...he's been aware all his life that he's disabled in any way...but he has been blessed with many other thins: good heart, faithfull frienshindships, able to love beyond this life. Run free Forrest run. Jenny will be flying in the skyes watching you.
Hey Marc Sendra, your comment here is very well said! Forrest Gump is just one of those movies that I think most people can really connect with on an Emotional level. I also really admire how Forrest showed the upmost loyalty to those closest to him. I think that is a character quality we can all admire and try to apply in our own lives! For me Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled). I also just wanted to mention that I actually posted a video on my RU-vid channel that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. Aside from matching song lyrics with movie scenes, my intention with the video was to try and create something unique. If you have a few minutes sometime and happen to be Interested, here is a link to the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Or-sIiNANYg.html If you don't check it out, then no worries at all! I certainly will Not be offended! But Thank You So Much in advance if you do see it! I hope you Have A Great Day Today, Marc Sendra! Please Stay Safe and Stay Awesome! 🙂
I think a lot of people overlook the fact that Lt. Dan is standing at Forrests wedding. Most probably assume its because of his legs. Its not, its because he is saluting his fellow soldier.
As I have said before, from Elvis to AIDS (or Hep C), Forrest Gump is the chronicle of a generation; the historical touchstones, the traumas, the music, and the philosophical questions we wrestled with. It's always fun for me to see what historical bits are recognized and which ones are already mostly forgotten. I really enjoyed your reaction and analysis.
@@DarthLoki No, do a better job at researching. Jenny doesn't even die in the original book. It was the screenwriter who created that narrative, and he said it was AIDS.
Losing Bubba over and over everytime i watch this film really does hurt... feels like i lose a friend of my own. Bubba just wanted to go home to his shrimp...
Hey Native Engine! Forrest Gump is such a special movie to me for many reasons, but I think it is VERY impressive how it balances many different genres of film! I feel like I am watching a Coming-Of-Age movie, a Comedy movie, a Drama movie, a Romance movie, and a War movie, all at 1 time! I also find Forrest Gump to be very Inspirational, and Personally, I often connect with the movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled). I also just wanted to mention that I actually posted a video on my RU-vid channel that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). This is easily one of the best movies and performances ever. Absolute classic. Did you guys realize that little Forrest was the kid in the movie the Sixth Sense. Haley Joel Osment.
My Favorite line is when Forest says "iv'e worn lots of shoes" which is a metaphor for leading a fulfilling life and walking many different paths. Drill sergeant was right about him, he is an absolute genius
Jenny is one of the most complicated characters in cinema history. Her part is pure genius. I wish more people understood that her character's behavior was rooted in her childhood trauma. So many people don't understand that Jenny left Forrest over and over not because she didn't care about him, but because she had no self worth. Great thoughts about how the two characters run away in different ways.
I met my life soul mate. She was the most intense love I ever knew. We were together only a short time and she moved away without ever saying goodbye. It destroyed me. She had a cocain addiction and felt that her problems would hurt me more than help, so she left me to spare me from it. I still love her and I know that we will be together in another life. We are destined to be together. Life just got to her first before I could meet her. We both knew that this love was real and I know that it hurt her to leave me as much as it hurt me to lose her. She left me because she loved me too much to put me through her problems with addiction. I know that now. I miss her so much and I truly hope that she has found happiness. I will be with her again. I will just have to wait until the next life to be with her again. This movie is very hard to watch because it reminds me of her. Sandy I love you and always will forever.
I was about 9 when this movie came out, and I've been paralyzed from the waist down since I was a year old, so I walked with crutches at the time, and kids would tell me to "run, Forrest, run," and would throw rocks at me or kickballs at my stomach to knock me down. Even with all the traumatic memories associated with this movie, it's still one of my favorites!! I even like Jenny. She deserved Forrest, but I understand why she didn't think so, and why she lives her life as she does until she finds she's pregnant. Great reaction, guys!! I wasn't sure if the history in this movie would make it hard to understand for two young, beautiful women not born in the US, but you guys impressed me with your knowledge and realization that Forrest often doesn't realize the significance of the moment. And of course, I knew you'd cry, this movie is hard to watch without tears lol. So fantastic job!!!
These characters remind me of the Beatles song "Fool On The Hill", which reminds us that being "smart" is not all that it's cracked up to be. Intelligence does not equate to happiness.
@@davestang5454 indeed. most of the time it`s the opposite. they say "ignorance is bliss" for a good reason^^ smart people tend to overthink everything all the time, while not so smart people just enjoy the day.
Forrest Gump gave us all a lesson on Unconditional Love for others. He was loved as a boy, and never stopped loving anyone who was dear to him. He always saw the Good in people. He forgave and forgave and forgave and was always willing to forgive again. Jenny gave us all a lesson on self-love. She was abused as a little girl. Her ability to love herself was almost completely destroyed. It took her decades to purge her pain and self-loathing. She ultimately learned to love herself and be at peace with the world. Forrest was her lifeline, even when he wasn't around. She found her salvation, which is all that matters.
Hey Stogie2112! Forrest Gump is a movie that when I saw it at a younger age, I did Not understand how Jenny was also "running" but Not in the literal sense like Forrest did. I guess the contrast between Jenny's path and Forrest's path is what makes this story so special! I've seen this movie more times than I can remember, and this is the first time I noticed that Forrest was a Sergeant when he was released from service. Also I recently learned that a sequel was written in secret and submitted to the studio. Unfortunately it was sent on September 10, 2001 and things pretty much got lost and forgotten the next day.
The story of the sequel is a but more complicated. Paramount claimed the movie made no profit therefore they did not owe the author, Winston Groom, any royalty money as the contract was for a share of the profits. The author sued and to keep the public from finding out about the Hollywood accounting shenanigans Paramount used to make the film appear to lose money, Paramount settled the lawsuit. Technically Paramount did not pay the author any back royalties. They paid him a large upfront amount for rights to the unfinished sequel. So the author wrote the sequel in such a way that it was not filmable turning Forrest into an unlikeable monster.
Late to the party on this one - I've heard of contagious laughter but contagious crying? I swear, you two start crying about literally anything and I start to tear up hahaha. I love your reactions, you are both very fun, smart, and caring humans and most of your reactions shows this. Keep it up, I love watching these!
I enjoyed watching this great film for the 3rd time with you ladies. You are both sweet, emotional and kind thinking. Don't let the world change you. I will be back when I see " your light on" to watch another film with you both. Peace and Thank you.
This is the most tragic story ever told, expressed in the most wholesome way. It’s perfect to come back to when you need a good cry. Do the crying that Forrest was too strong, too composed to do when he really needed one.
"Do you know what it is like to not use your legs!?" The irony when Forrest looks at his legs in response. Seeing Magy get frustrated with Forrest is hilarious.
The difference between Gump and Lt.Dan is that when When Lt.Dan has problems, he looks for someone or something to blame and when Forrest has problems, he just "keeps going".
You two are amazing to watch. I really enjoy both of you. And showing your emotions like you both do shows the kind hearts you both have. I hope to see you both again many times.
Jenny represents someone with too little structure in their life (the letters get returned because she has no home, no address) and Lieutenant Dan represents someone with too much structure (born and raised in a military family where their own death is plotted out from birth) and both were sad and destructive to themselves as a result. Forrest’s mom and his simple-mind actually gives him the perfect balance of planning and flexibility. He shows them what they need to be happy. He gives Jenny their son which creates a home and gives her life structure it has always lacked. He gives Let Dan a new purpose - working on a boat - and showed him life goes on and he’s free to live his life on his own terms.
Money never played a role when Jenny returned to Forest. Jenny lived a life of self-destructive decisions caused by the PTSD she suffered from the childhood assaults by her father and Forest was the only pure thing in her life she knew would never hurt her. For most of us, that person is usually mom or dad. Jenny didn't have such a luxury.
She hasn't made peace with GOD, like liutenant Dan does, if she is, there would be a scene when she forgave her father / parent Somehow when she got sick, the only option she has is to surrender to normal life The irony is forrest is surrendering to normal life and yet somehow get people dream and jenny chasing her dream and surrender to normal life.
Great reaction ladies! Alot of tears and sniffles, and I enjoyed watching along with you both, thank you for watching such a cinematic classic, can't wait to see more from you both!
Hey Star the silent! Tom Hanks has to be one of the best actors of all time. He's Very talented! I think Hanks really peaked in the Mid-Late 1990s with films like Saving Private Ryan, Cast Away, and The Green Mile. As far as Forrest Gump goes, I just find this movie to be very Inspirational and Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled). It was one of a first movies Ive seen in cinema. It was actually school trip to cinema to watch this movie when I was like 10 and I remember scene with Forrest speech on Jenny`s grave and how other kids reacted with "he is stupid talking to a grave". As Ive lost my father couple years back , that scene stuck with me for many following years so as their reaction, giving me some kind of confidence that I`m not the only one even if many people cant understand that and what I`m feeling. Hard to describe it but that movie will always have special place in my heart.
You two are amazing. Every time I watch your channel, I discover more and more of the direct shortcomings of who I am, and what I've been most of my life. I'm 64, and only a couple of months ago did I discover and realize how, just like the Eagles song "Desperado", I too am a desperado. I mean, I usually thought I was a nice guy, because I thought I was never flying colors as I rode with a notorious motorcycle gang, that I never carried a gun in my belt as I rode the Greyhound Bus, drifting from town to town, and that I never frequented seedy bars where I always started and ended nightly brawls, No, I was the "nice guy"! And honestly, I really was. But I only recently realized nice guys can also be desperado's too. Forest could have, maybe should have turned out differently. But you two saw his heart. Anyway, your honest observation of Forest makes me believe even someone like me can change. Thanks for pouring out the honesty of your transparent heart in all your reaction videos. Love and Peace, Tod w/ only one d
Lt. Dan: "Take good care of your feet and try not to do anything stupid, like getting yourself killed" Also Lt. Dan, loses his legs and tries to get himself killed.
I love how instead of the kid who played young Forrest learning how to talk like Tom Hanks, Tom Hanks decided to learn how to talk like him because his voice and accent were so interesting to him.
That kid is also in the Savannah, Ga -based movie "The Legend of Bagger Vance", with Matt Damon and Will Smith, which was also Jack Lemon's final movie.
In case it hasn't been explained yet in the comments. Maybe it has. The speech Tom Hanks gave at the anti-war rally went like this: "When people go to Vietnam sometimes they go home to their Mamas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's really bad. That's all I have to say bout that." And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a most profound statement about war.
The park where Forrest is sitting is called Bull Square in Savannah, Georgia. I worked as an extra in a few movies in Savannah, including "Baywatch". There are a lot of movies filmed in southeast Georgia. Another good movie filmed in the area was "Glory", a true story from the American Civil War, with Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman.
GREAT emotional reactions to one of Tom Hank's best films, Laura & Magy!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Forrest has such a pure heart, it is touching. Magy you look cute in your leather pants.🙂
HOW REFRESHING! LAURA! A reactor who reacts rather than gives a blow by blow color commentary saturating the reaction video by overstating the obvious, a reactor who laughs when it's funny without explaining "oh now that is funny, it's like this or that", one who shows an expression of disgust or disapproval without going on about "how messed up is that? That is so wrong, it's just like how this happens here and there and blah blah blah", one who sheds real tears, sniffles, breathes deep with heavy sighs, without going on about "oh my god that is so sad, can you imagine, it's just like how this or that or blah, blah, blah". A reactor who shows their genuine reaction to the moments in the movie as they happen, saving the commentary and dialog for after the conclusion of the movie. Thanks Magy for including Laura in this reaction video. I remembered that you had reacted to Forrest Gump a while back yet I saw the thumbnail of you and someone else who didn't look like one of the "Homies" so I had to check it out and am so glad I did. Thanks so much Magy & Laura, have a very Merry Christmas!
Beautiful reaction Miss Magy and Miss Laura. You can tell a lot about a person by their emotions or lack of emotions from this movie. You two have beautiful souls. Please don't life or anyone change that.
i think the reason she went away after sleeping with forrest, is cause she was cured, her whole problem was that she associated sex with a horrible traumatic experience.. and always got reinforced by her experiences with man.. When she slept with Forrest was the first time she experience sex with love.. and that help her get over her traumas.. but she couldnt stay now that he was rich.. and just live out of him.. she knew she had to get her life together.. At least thats what i think
Jenny has sex with Forrest because since her childhood, she has always connected "love" with sex. That was the closest thing to expressing love that Jenny understood. Forrest gave Jenny unconditional love. something she did not feel worthy of receiving. Everything she did in a relationship, in her mind, had to be conditional and transactional.

Amazing reaction ladies, I really mean it. I know you were both emotional but Foxy🦊 Laura almost made me cry, 😢then when Magy, (Also "Foxy" by the way!) started losing it, I just wanted to hug you both🤗. Lol. Magy, I wanted to give you an animal spirit guide so I'm gonna call you Kitty, 🐱. Great job as always and I hope you two keep doing reactions together, you make a good team😃! Take care and I hope to see you soon.✌
25:50 there is only one example of a better response to that question I’ve ever heard before in my life I was at a “health and spirituality” expo with my now ex, her sister and her sisters bf…and whilst the girls were chatting with one particular stall manager, a person from the neighbouring booth approached myself and the other guy, asking that same question, “have you found jesus?” Without missing a beat the other guy grabbed my shoulder and with a faked panic look in his eyes asked me “you DID lock the door to the basement, right?” The look on the askers face was PRICELESS
Pause at 36:07... 'Christina's world' - Andrew Wyeth (a painting). Christina is a handicapped girl struggling as she travels through the world in front of her. So much Americana this movie.
A soldier does not have to obey an order in every circumstance. Forrest was trying to save the life of one of the members of the platoon at the risk of his own life. He wasn't interfering with the napalm run in the process.
The letters couldn't be delivered because Jenny didn't lived at the address anymore, so she never received them & the Post returned it to sender as usually in cases if something can't be delivered... I wonder why so many reactors/people didn't seem to get it, some where even mad at Jenny because thy thought she returned them.
Laura you are Viki's sister. Your reaction mirrored Viki's in so many ways. Magy you did a beautiful job of subtly guiding Laura through the movie without spoiling anything letting Laura experience this movie in her own way. Nicely done
A great movie and a super great reaction. You guys let your true feelings out and it adds to your wonderful reactions. Laura's first time reaction was spot on, you two make a great couple or reactors.
Hey Grizzlox! I think Forrest Gump does a fantastic job at balancing many genres of film (Drama, Comedy, Romance, "Coming-Of-Age", War Film, etc...) altogether in 1 movie! The performances are also VERY good, especially from Tom Hanks (and Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan is my other favorite performance). For me Personally, I often find myself connecting with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled). If you like this kind of story, I highly recommend Hal Ashby's "Being There" from 1979 with Peter Sellers. It is sort of a mix of this movie, "Rain Man" and "The Butler", very human, sweet and unique.
