Fort De Pointisse Going, Going - Gone

Fort De Pointisse was one of the larger forts constructed from 1881 for the defense of Liege. It has seen extensive service and battle damage both in WW1 and WW2.
Now it is practically abandoned (except for donkeys) and I wanted to visit and go through what remains, before it is lost to history and nature.
And I may have managed to get myself locked inside also, only the Horses and Donkeys will know I got out.

That place is amazing! I love old forts! That was originally a red brick structure, it's very old, part of a larger star city, thats why it wasnt defendable in the rear. It was added onto and covered in concrete. Just imagine the tunnel systems there, they all had them! I've never seen the inside of it you made my day, thank you! I also thank you for not just sticking to HIS story and telling it in more detail. My 10th grade social studies teacher is who told us a different story one day in class about Braveheart, the movie was very popular back then, that's what began my infatuation with HIS story. Most just accept what we're told and dont want to hear anything else. It's sad, truly. Napolean said it best. "History is written by the victors."

Strange these things just stand and rot. In my town the uboat bunker "Bruno" has been repurposed. Lots of companies have built seperate secions in it. You will not get any more solid foundation than those things.

Indiana Jones eat your heart out,Tino goes where others fear to tread through Donkey do and flooded tunnels.His explorations bring to life the history of these fortifications and dispel,s the myth of the defender,s surrendering at the first sight of a German uniform.

BRAVO Tino!!! Another interesting vlog. I was in Liege back in 2016, I wanted to visit the FN factory in Herstal, but only after I had left did I learn about the forts which had ringed the city of Liege. There is so much to see and the folks I was with had other priorities. It is so good of you to vlog these sites for future reference.

Tino , You should look up ‘Fort van Ertbrand’ in Flanders , North of Antwerp. That one took some serious hits during the war. You can see it in google images if you look at the front view of the fort. There were some other ones that took more damage , but of those , not much remains. I used to visit the Ertbrand fort regularly before it was sold to Natuurpunt. We had a key & could enter it legally. The keys that open the gates of these forts are huge. Another original one of another Fort around Antwerp is on display at the Military History museum in Vienna , Austria. Very interesting if you think about where some of this stuff all ends up. Great content as always!

you should really try to get a private tour of Fort de Liouville, its not open for public but really cool on the inside, i've been airsofting there a weekend in 2018, really cool inside, still looks as if it was bombed last year. craters everywhere, and a big underground base.

Not something that is talked about or Tought !! ..A shame as we have heard so much about the Maginot and its being a 'white Elephant ' but in fact some of these forts deserve their place in History and what your doing Tino is Groundbreaking but also shining a spotlight on parts of History that have been glossed over ..sometimes rather conveniently in many cases to fit a certain narrative. Good on You!

Great Stuff. We have been led to believe that the Germans just walked through lightly defended borders and the French and Belgian Military Minds never made extensive plans and construction to prevent the Germans from conquest. These Forts wound not have been built if Germany did not pose a threat against these countries. Right now Fort Ticonderoga, NY is threatened, because a Non-prophet Group is lacking the funds to maintain this piece of American Revolutionary History. Anyways, not many people are making the efforts to that you do to remind us of this history. Thank you.

Do you ever get any explainations to why many of the forts and bunkers you explore are not maintained and turned into museums?
@tinostruckmann
@tinostruckmann 3 года назад
YES but none of them I will accept - mostly lack of money or interest, Metal scrappers took most of the armaments and nobody cared 40 years ago.... but ut always boils down to lack of money and people interested in restoring them. Some of these forts I will try to help raise funds to restore though
@MsJakobsen
@MsJakobsen 3 года назад
@@tinostruckmann What a waste 🙁 It is so sad if lack of interest is the problem. I worked at Bangsbo Museum, Frederikshavn Denmark during the some of the period where we prepared Bangsbo Fort Bunkermuseum and it took maybe 15 years to find the funding but it was soo worth it ... most importantly to preserve the bunkers but also to tell the story. Secondly it is also a great tourist attraction(could be developed much more) in an area without other tourist attractions. For sure that would be the case in most of the forts and bunkers you visit? Admiderable that you help them trying to raise funds 👌 Btw I loved your episodes from Bangsbo
