The worst part is the writers aren't lazy, they are just not skilled in the craft. Most of them do not have a single notable project under their belts. And Disney hired them to write a story in a complex universe in a major IP. This is another common Disney management issue. They literally made the same mistake they did with the sequels: not prioritize the writing at all. They aren't smart enough to figure out that the writing is the most important part of storytelling, regardless of the medium.

I’m sure they figured that people will watch the show anyway so there’s no point in making it any good. The worst part is some people were as blinded from nostalgia as they were banking on
And then somehow the director. Who directed one of my favourite episodes of better call Saul, and some mandalorian episodes does the worst job of directing I’ve ever seen. Some of the establishing shots were nice but every time there was a fight scene she couldn’t help but use that god forsaken fucking shaky cam
@@vengeance93826 The writing in the prequels wasn't far worse. Writing isn't just dialogue, it's also the character motivations and events. Lucas did write really cringe dialogue, but there's never a point in the prequels that doesn't make in-universe sense. You can always understand how and why everyone does everything. A lot of Disney Star Wars can't say the same and the dialogue for the most part isn't good or bad enough to really justify that.
All of the fans viewed Obi Wan Kenobi and Book of Boba as sacred ips, one that should be treated with care and respect. There was little thought put into it and it's ostracised so many fans. Obi Wan Kenobi had so much potential but once again Disney illustrated they do not understand the characterisation of star wars. Ashoka with Thrawn and the rebel gang seems to be loyal thus far and hopefully more projects will be good like that
Is it weird I've been excited how Fallen Order smashes Disney to pieces. It doesn't alienate anyone and you can see the bonding scenes happen naturally and not force pushed into our senses. Thanks again for all the hard work you guys do. 😁👍
Very true. The “bonding” between Obi and Leia that happens in OWK is so forced and blatantly written. Again, it feels like they spent about 5 minutes writing it all

And the tie-in novel, Jedi Battle Scars, is penned by none other than SJW extraordinaire Sam Maggs, who was working on the KOTOR remake up until last year.

What's annoying is that blasters of black-armoured shock troopers make the same unique sound they had in Rebels show...How can they be so attentive to this tiny detail and so blindly ignorant to the stupidity of everything else that happens in Kenobi?
Probably cause some people working on the show knew what they were doing and respected the universe and others with more authority in the project were just there to boost their careers
@@mikeandjendoumitt5948 I think that's due to the Empire moving away from the Clone Wars completely, which makes sense. According to the Bad Batch they started making TK armor right away for volunteers that join the Empire after the fall of the Republic. So those Purge Troopers are slowly changing their aesthetic to the Empire's aesthetic. So I don't see that as a problem, just the way they were used you know?
The difference between Fallen Order, showing the Empire and the inquisitors, as an actual threat, that the heroes have to outsmart, outmaneuver, and still manage to only escape by the skin of their teeth. The Writers built a fortress, with realistic defenses, and then actually had to figure out a plan how someone could infiltrate the base. VS this . . . Slap a stormtrooper, and walk out in a trench coat. The Writers bludgeon the bad guys with the idiot stick so hard that it put them on life-support. This doesn't make the bad guys seem like a threat, just as a joke. This doesn't make us impressed with the heroes, just embarrassed at how lucky they got. For them to rely so heavily on the game, it would have been a perfect opportunity for them to bring in Cal, or at least reference, "I only heard of 1 person who managed to get in and out of that fortress." But I guess they didn't want to give credit to a "lowly" video game. And then they went on to steal the best scene from Rebels in the last episode . .
Obi wan fighting those stormtroopers in the dark torture chamber really tryed to be Starkiller escaping his cell in the force unleashed, but instead forgot how lightsabers work.
That's the problem since 2019. It's not movies or shows anymore. It's just doing exactly what the dumbest and loudest star wars fans bully them into. As long as people keep watching this crap for manchildren it won't change.

Seen it or not, I think the bigger problem is that they write everything based on a brainstorming session of what kind of scenes, characters, or features would be "cool" to have. Then they shape a generic storyline into a way to tie all those elements together (no matter how sloppy). The result is a total lack of consequences, grounding in reality, and believable story. Kenobi, Book of Bob Feet, and such have really lost any sense of Star wars taking itself seriously. It has become nothing more than cheap action, fan servicing (what does that even mean at this point), and toy sales. Andor is the first star wars entity since Rogue One (other than Mando season 1) to take itself seriously.
Why even is there glass windows in that underwater tunnel you'd think after the last time the place got infiltrated Darth Vader would have ordered that shit covered up with durasteel or something.
This has been, without question, my personal biggest gripe with this show. People have talked before about how other things (Vader fighting kenobi before ANH, kenobi meeting leia, etc) already make problems with the pre-established canon, but somehow *nobody* has talked about this, which completely undermines the entire climax of fallen order. I'm so relieved to see someone bring this up finally, great analysis
You can also argue that in fallen order, the defenses were intentionally lightened just enough to allow kal and cere in, but not enough to make it blatantly obvious it was a trap. Plausibly vader wanted to lure cere and kal in, either to eliminate them or turn them into inquisitors, which wouldn't work if they were vaporized the instant they dropped out of hyperspace.
I had no issue with them using the trench coat to hide Leia. What I DO take issue with is no one noticing. Not even Reva seems to notices them. The way she calls them out is like she already knew where they were exactly. As for the snowspeeders, I hate them. Just everything seems wrong about them. They look too small. Heck that scene of Reva "fighting" one shows off how tiny these ships are.
Why wouldn't you still take issue with it then. That was Jedi master/council member/war hero Obi Wan Kenobi's legitimate plan for sneaking Leia out and thought it even had a chance of working. Major character fuck up... Maybe not for him in the show though.

It is a place where they torture, kill, stuff, and mount children on the walls. Granted the general incompetence of the Inquisitors undermines the threat they are supposed to be feeling. In a pocket, it works for me. Added to everything else, it doesn't make sense.
See, I'm not a professional. But the way I would have written it would have been to not have them on fortress inquisitorius at all. If it HAD to be there... The moon now has a shield gate, just like Scarif in rogue one. Traffic in and out is heavily controlled, the gate well guarded. Tala bluffs her way through using some older security codes (callback to RotJ.) but this raises a flag with security. Obiwan remains well hidden aboard a secret compartment in the ship. They land and Tala is met by several armed stormtroopers and the head security officer. They inform her that her codes are out of date and that she's under arrest on suspicion of treason. It is here that Tala uses the "I'm a double agent, I was undercover and now have important intel to report." The flight deck is not heavily populated once the security force leaves with Tala, a few mechanics and technicians milling about but Obiwan is able to quietly sneak out of the ship and into the fortress proper. He finds his way to the cell where they're keeping Leia and uses a mind trick on the trooper standing guard, convincing him to drop his blaster and swap places with Leia. Using the stealth and guile he's known for, Obiwan smuggles Leia back to the ship, using that force knock technique to clear a path at one point. Once he has her safely hidden away he waits for Tala to return, though as time passes he begins to suspect her cover has been cracked. Ensuring Leia will remain hidden and safe, he heads back into the fortress, and this time stops a security officer, mind tricking them into giving up Talas location. He learns she's being held in an interrogation room, waiting for Lord Vader to arrive as he expressed interest in debriefing her himself due to her claimed knowledge of Kenobi. Obiwan manages to free her, he can even kill the stormtroopers guarding her if you really want. Then they make their way back to the ship. Tala reveals that thanks to her slight of hand and cunning, she switched one of the officers security cylinders that has the current codes with her own. They return to the ship and take off, the updated codes now allowing them to freely leave the gate. As they jump to hyperspace, the camera pans left and Vaders Star Destroyer appears. The rest of the scene can play out as normal, Vader throwing Reva around, reva explaining she put a tracker in the droid etc.
You have more common sense and talent than most of the star wars writers nowadays. Reading that was genuinely compelling and sounds like a much more believable situation 🤣
Let's be real... The person in charge of security died a very painful death after the events of Fallen Order, and this lapse in security in Kenobi is definitely on someone else :P
This is just another example of writers being too lazy to apply logic to their stories. I mean it's an Imperial Fortress home to Darth Vader's task force of Jedi Hunters, and the security is about as serious as a circus. There's not a single ship in orbit to scan and clear incoming vessels. The lead security officer of all people just buys into whatever a random lady says without checking to confirm anything. Along with all the other stupid things that happened, it really makes the Empire look stupid if one of the most well defended Imperial facilities is has a security personnel that cannot notice a guy clearly hiding a child under his coat. I mean it's bad enough that they're copying from Fallen Order, but at least put some effort into it.
Fortress Inquisitorius should have been the Citadel from Clone Wars. It was the perfect location for it and was already designed to imprison Jedi. Just give its security a few touchups after the events in the Clone Wars and there you go. It would also make sense seeing as Vader knows about the Citadel's formidability first hand.
@AvatarIroh05 If I remember it was indeed the Inquisitor HQ at first but later keeping them all in Coruscant became a danger because two Inquisitors fell in love and tried to run away while making a mess in Coruscant, thats why their HQ got changed
What I also find weird is how only Scariff has a planetary defense shield and multiple ISD's for protection, but then the Planet that houses the Headquarters of the Imperial Inquisition which has some of the empires biggest secrets inside.
Jedi: Survivor also adds on to that first assumption about the characters maybe not knowing about the Fortress and the incursion by Cal and Cere since Cere herself created the Hidden Path
I'm surprised that you didn't mention that snowspeeders use ship-grade blasters, and it shouldn't be possible to deflect them with a lightsaber period.
Yeah, it's flay out commical how inexplicably bad the security in the fortress is during Kenobi, but I suppose it matches the inquizitors from the show, who are just goofy comic book villains with all the weight and pressence of a power rangers monster.
This show takes so much in terms of story from fallen order, even down to beats like the two main characters needing to reconnect with the force, and it's hilarious how poorly it does it
Obi-Wan was fighting off the Stormtroopers with his reignited Force and lightsaber skills inside the fortress, but once they got to the hangar, he somehow forgot how to Jedi and switched back to his blaster.
I'd just like to add, Andor did the "no-ones stupid enough to attack" thing well. The REASON no-one would be stupid enough to attack is because there was an airfield just a few minutes away, so the window would be tiny and you wouldn't be able to escape even if you did attack the compound. Similarly there was a definite reason why they COULD attack that mitigated that factor.
I saw the thumbnail and thought, "Knowing the fandom, someone will probably make a rewrite and reedit of Obi-Wan that is halfway decent" After this, I'm glad to know there's already is! I've been on the fence about taking time to play Fallen Order, and know I feel I have to now
Also, the scene where Obi-Wan’s lightsaber bounces off Stormtroopers in a dark room looks conspicuously similar to the much better scene in the Force Unleashed 2 E3 trailer.

"it was broken into a couple of years ago, and they have since ramped security, so we are going to have to be extra smart and careful to make sure our plan succeeds". Would be a nice little nod to anyone who has played fallen order, but wouldn't hinder the viewing experience of anyone who hasn't. Instead we got a trench coat. I hate disney.
Yeah but coming up with a new, unique, and inventive plan to bypass the Fortress's extra security would have required creativity and thought from the writers, and we can't have that, can we?

And of course, you can’t chide your sister on her story’s lack of basic continuity and logic. I’m honestly not even mad. I mean, what can we expect. @Master Samwise here is the only explanation I can think of. This is a separate fortress on a different (much greener) water world. This one has no defenses because no one would be dumb enough to attack this one because they have the other fortress.

Ok seriously, someone pls give the Coreographer help. I mean come on, we saw Obi Wan do some Aikido and it's... passable. But then there's this. You know, maybe hand-to-hand isn't the Coreographer's Specialty. Maybe it's Weapons Fighting. Maybe just give her a Baton or a Bludgeon, or maybe an improvised weapon. Seeing her beating the devil out of Stormtroopers with a Steel Bucket from the ground would have more oomph than that slap.
Doesn’t need to be in the same chain of command. A higher officer is a higher officer, no matter what. Unless you are on a direct order of a higher officer of the aforementioned higher officer, or in direct command of another officer of atleast the same rank as the one giving the new order. That said, no soldier is obligated to carry out ”suicide” orders.
The stunt acting in these scenes you mentioned is absolutely pathetic too. First trooper gets hit in the chest and *leans forward*, which is the opposite of what would happen. The second trooper gets slashed from left to right but spins TO HIS LEFT, the opposite of how the momentum of the strike would have sent him.

I imagine myself in the position of the new security chief after my predecessor mysteriously chocked to death on their own spit, possibly in the presence of Lord Vader, or the head inquisitor and I would pull all registers and hope that is enough to avoid having Lord Vader accept my apology. First I would probably set up a Scarif type shield as well as a set of weapons platforms and a heavy duty extremely intrusive scanning on a station in orbit with purge troopers and ISB personel that is not disliked by said purge troopers, kind of the lose guns and extremely methodical individuals. And since you have to walk from one hangar to the other through a corridor with blast doors multiple sets of scanners you can't really hide and hiding anything will be extremely hard. If you manage to infiltrate teh station it either tries to kill you, or failing that get's blown out of the sky by the two star destroyer and serval arquitens which patrol teh system. Should you survive that you'll find the shield gate closed off and the aforementioned ships and weapons platforms angrily reducing wreck pieces and ships to metal vapor. Should you get through the shield anyway, well there's TIE fighters of different designs (reaper, phantom, defender) would not only swarm the system, but also the air space around the fortress. As for the air locks und the water surface, all entrances not main entrances would have an extra airlock which has in it 2 purge trooper, one ISB agent two KX-enforcer units and for good measure at least one DT unit as well as a scanner chamber and auto turrets. Also the airlock and scanner chamber can be weaponised with taking the oxigen out of them, or flooding them with some form of poison for good measure. As for the actual fortress, well our gracious host had stated enough measures about the flaws, now all these measures aren't perfect but in the event things go wrong you can confidently say to Vader that budgetary constraints forced you to draw a line at some point and that clearly protocol wasn't follewed, which is a shame because one now can be sure to take the blame for those that did it without them ever learning the lesson themselves. At this point requesting a single shot disruptor pistol for "personal use" would hopefully appease Vader enough to not go after the entire family, or something.
I still cannot believe the writers got a pass nearly plagiarizing Jedi the fallen order. As soon as I saw it on screen with Obi Wan, I instantly remembered playing it and thought that they literally just copy and pasted the entire excursion. What made it worse is that I hardly heard anyone talking about it, but instead praised the show for how Obi Wan fought Vader in a fight that should never have happened as it pushes the boundaries of cannon far to much to be believable. It was a cool fight if it made sense leading into the original trilogy.
Was the empire on a budget? Could they not just afford to put a shield there? You take safety precautions for important places, even if you doubt someone would try to attack it because you don’t want to be the one responsible in case someone does attack

It’s incredible anyone liked this show. However the best explanation I heard for the lightsabers acting like bats is that they have a cutting edge much like an actual Saber and the DarkSaber itself. And that it takes skill to use that cutting edge effectively
I just finished Fallen Order for the first time, and I'm even more baffled now at the lack of security on this station seen in Kenobi. On one hand, I love the attention to detail on that show when it comes to the props and set pieces, because it visually looks like the fortress in fallen order, but the vibe in the show is totally lacking. Incredibly lazy writing on the show, and we didn't even get any purge trooper fights--those were so much fun in Fallen Order! The whole purpose of the Purge Troopers was to fight and apprehend Jedi. So much wasted potential for a Kenobi series

We needed magic they got Disney bs seriously I made sure I killed every trooper I could when doing that mission I nearly failed during the Vader scenes jut to be petty against troopers and yet they don’t have enough for kal that would have been funny where obiwan met kal and they go like hello there and go their separate ways

If it's not in the title crawl it didn't happen. These cross medium stories aren't supposed to be contiguous cannon and no Disney lawyer or proclamation by pope George himself can make it otherwise. I don't watch James Bond and wonder why it contradicts 007 Golden Eye.
It’s insane how bad the speeders look in this episode. They don’t blend into the scene at all - the scale and perspective is wrong, they move strangely, the characters don’t seem to react to them properly, etc. It’s pathetic when you consider that the speeders in Empire Strikes Back look way better, and those were made using manual film splices and stop-motion animation!
Plus they just fly into the hangar at full speed with no maneuvering room. If they actually flew in like that they would have crashed, but the show just yada-yada's them out of the scene until they're needed again.
This series is just indescribably shit, thank you for making this video, I'm fed up of these terrible series. I really hope the future ones take a leaf out of Andor's book and actually have good writing. The fact they so BLATANTLY took SO MUCH from SWFO is insane.
The people making a film out of the good parts of this series are the real MVP’s. I was in disbelief when I saw how comically bad this show was. Now we have S3 of Mando that was also an absolute joke. They need new writing rooms and less Kathleen Kennedy. Preferably writers who have actually watched the films and know the characters.

It's almost become pointless to criticize the stupidity of Disney Star Wars at this point. It hard to believe that this stuff comes from the same place. You can't help but feel that things like this, because of the scope of the show, gets lots of hands-on meddling by Disney execs, but then these games and shows like Andor simply aren't big enough for them to care.
Almost pointless, yes. But also very fun lol. And it’s worth it to point out that Disney can’t just slap together a story in one afternoon, throw in a couple of beloved characters, and fool EVERYONE into thinking it’s good.

@@ECSOrder66 The Rebels were (I have to emphasize were here cause Disney doesn't understand George) based on WW2 units. Which is why the space battles were so awesome and full of different ships. Even the toys had Rebels and Empire characters that had roles specific to their section, they were only on screen for a flash but they have a role. Disney doesn't care or understand established rules, which is why they use hyper space flight as a weapon in The Last Jedi. Also Disney is an American company. Why would they use foreign military conventions? Unless, they hate America, that's crazy though. Right?
