Don’t worry Joey. My teacher had a dog that had puppies as well and her dog had the same infection. But she got better so no worry, but she did have to get some treatment so keep a really close eye on her and take her to the vet. The reason is because she kept on producing milk but the puppies were not drinking from that specific boob. Again, my teacher’s dog got better and I am sure that yours will too 😊🥰😘❤️

I think in this case it’s not that the puppies aren’t drinking it’s that they might be bigger then she is and she is producing the amount of milk they need but in the wrong tubes consider the fact that these puppies are too young right now to eat puppy gruel if the infection can’t be stopped Joey will probably end up bottle feeding all of them till mom can take her duties again

Looks like she has mastitis which is what human breastfeeding mummies get. It’s an infection which leaves the breast quite inflamed and can make you feel unwell. The warm compress helps to clear her ducts and will help to relieve pain :)

I agree I had it myself with my First baby. Warm baths and washcloths were the best way to get relief. Milk fever is not localised like this and causes seizures and muscle twitching, she has no sign of that.

Mastitis is not only in humans. Dairy cows, goats, and sheep commonly get mastitis. Very easy to treat and curable, but is frustrating for anyone or animal to get, just like with any other infection.

As someone who works in the vet field, I want to personally say thank you for realistically depicting what it's like for a dog to have puppies. So many people get cute little purebreds and think it would be fun to breed them and it's just simply not. It's very hard and very expensive.

You had me freaked out when you said milk fever! For anyone else who was confused, milk fever is a much more serious and/or deadly infection than what is actually going on. I'm pretty sure he meant mastitis, which is an infection of the mammary glands (and is treated with antibiotics and warm compresses). Milk fever can become fatal very quickly, and I'm really glad this isn't what's going on! I hope mama and pups feel better soon

as one fellow mommy myself you can tell joey has a paternal instinct hes going to do GREAT when he has kids for real. The time, love, money, attention , everything he puts into these animals is amazing. i dont think i could do it myself lol one child is enough for me hahaha i love seeing him with these animals!

So I worked with cattle and that’s called mastitis. Milk fever is when they put out too much calcium for the pups but don’t have enough for themselves. Some internal and local antibiotics would be best for the momma and some supplements for the milk fever but she looks pretty healthy for the milk fever diagnosis

@@TheSiobhan12 I LOVE DR POL! I went to school for vet medicine and worked at a cattle farm where we had a few cases of mastitis and only one case of milk fever, where the cow ended up passing. I got kicked one time and dislocated my elbow milking out an infected quarter of a cow who had mastitis. She was sore and her calf was only drinking out of the front two quarters but still was able to help her out with one arm. Usually it’s caused when the calves/pups aren’t fully emptying it out so Joey called it in the beginning when he noticed the pups avoiding this one. Super sore for momma but hopefully he can clear it up quick for her 💕

If it is Masititis the best remedy next to antibiotics of course lol would be to wrap it with cabbage leaves and secure it with a gauze roll! Literally works magic! The tricky part will be trying to keep her from eating it!

Based on the treatment protocol given by the vet that is definitely mastitis, not milk fever (which would require a calcium infusion). Something we do at the hospital I work at is a cabbage (napa specifically) compress that we apply to the affected teats with a bandage wrap to help decrease inflammation. When you milk her make sure to check the firmness of the mammary gland because if the infection doesn't improve it's possible they might need to cut the area open and drain the infection. It's not something you have to do in most cases but i have seen it done.

Start from the belly and work toward nipple using like a c cup hand hold around the whole teet, after a warm compress and do it as often as the puppies normally eat, they will hopefully clear and ducts that are clogged. It’s painful so praying for her and you!

My first litter was born Monday unfortunately we had many complications the first puppy got stuck and it took 25 minutes to get her out but she's doing great second puppy came out butt first I assisted a little bit just to ensure he wasn't head first still inside getting fluid in his lungs... he's got a big old noggin on him takes after his daddy😊. After 4 hours in between the second pup and what was going to be our last pup (the third) at 11:30 at night we had to go to the emergency vet where we lost our third puppy around three in the morning. Now I'm consistently monitoring mama dog and ensuring the puppies rotate to prevent mastitis since there's only two pups. It's been the most beautiful and heartbreaking experience I've endured...

Oof poor girl. Awe you can really tell how much she trusts you ! I bet it's so painful !! 😬 I was going to suggest a warm bath and then you can try to milk her but the pain would be hard to tolerate. Good thing the antibiotics worked because that would be torture for the both of you !

I don’t know if you ever read any of my post, but let me just say again how wonderful you are. This poor street dog is finally learning how kind humans can be, and it’s all because of you Joey. You were obviously out of your comfort zone having to express her painfully swollen breast, but you were a trooper and did what needed to be done. Now you have one more important piece of knowledge that will make it less stressful for you with your next mamma dog that needs to know that humans can be kind, sympathetic and loving. You impress this old Baby Boomer with each new video. Keep up the good work.

Joey is so compassionate, gentle and caring. I love how he is, every pregnant dog or cat will be so lucky. I miss my furry child Cookie last cuddles 22.02.2021 at 04:30am. Then she completely disappeared.

Because there are millions of unloved animals in the world and many of them get pregnant, and there's no way he could possibly help them all. It would be too much pressure to put on him and a constant reminder of how little he can realistically do to change things for them. What he does is amazing, let him enjoy that and it be enough.

Mastitis and Milk fever are different things. Mastitis is a bacteria is an invasion of the teat carnal. Milk fever is like low calcium or is hypoglycemia.

@@annabanana9863 Hypoglycemia...? How? I'm a diabetic and I can't for the life of me see how hypoglycemia is related to her infection. You know that means low blood sugar, right? How would low blood sugar cause an infection in her milk ducts...?? 🤔🤔
