Yeah, they used it right. I love this guy’s voice ...his phrasing is always perfect and he’s such a great song writer but I often think that he should double his vocals on some of his live performances. The vocoder is the answer.
people need to understand that this is a cover, not a copy. they're playing it with the same ''vibe'' as their own music.. and it's fucking awesome. cant stop listening.
Real FTP fans know this was a choice and not that he needed to use auto tune, it brings a much different approach to the song instead of us getting annoying cover of the song.
KOL 49 amen Mark Foster’s voice is incredible and he has a ton of control. The autotune was absolutely a choice. I’ve seen FTP twice live. They’re incredible!!!
Arctic Monkeys and Foster The People have 2 diff sounds. To say which one did it better is pointless. Arctic has a classical sound while Foster is more futuristic. They both are great, just 2 different sounding groups.
Omfg he's not using auto tune cause he can't sing. It's obviously to enhance the aesthetic of the sound they're going for in this live lounge performance
Yeah, I didn't think he was using the auto tune because he sings bad either, I just think they were going for a certain sound. Like maybe techno or something I don't know.
the instrumental in this song is crazzzyyy!!! also, people need to find the difference between auto tune and vocoder, because this is not auto tune. guys did amazing, absolutely nailed it
These guys are talented no matter what anybody says they're some of the best out there put their originality and everything they do self-taught musicians :excellent
This cover shows how versatil FTP's music can be, this is not about wich cover or wich version of the song is better, this is art, and art can be expresed in different ways. This song show us that Foster the people can play everything they want. I really love and appreciate their work.
Sarah Yusoff yeah same! the first time i was like 'what IS this' especially because of the autotune, but somehow it got into my head and now I actually like the autotune :)
To all the people referencing his voice changer/autotune whatever: He got a new toy and was just trying it out, music's all about experimentation and I feel like the Live Lounge is the embodiment of that ideal. Bands playing songs that they didn't write and haven't had experience playing, yet being allowed to throw a new twist on it. Also, these guys totally did a better job than the Arctic Monkeys, love Arctic Monkeys and Foster the People, but these guys totally did a better job.
Jay Hall I’m personally beyond grateful he did so: I think it puts... such a beautiful range / feel to the song. Almost like the 1st voice (his) is coming from his heart; the next w/the different tone: almost like .. robotic minds on tape: playing the reel thru his head ... then those high notes... Jesus.. it’s like listening to 2 worlds collide. I thank GOD for artist like this/these that don’t fear trying something new... no matter what anyone may think or say.. That’s EXACTLY what being an artist is all about. Think outside the box ♥️ It’s doesn’t have to be black & white
Jay Hall and I couldn’t agree w/u more. This cover killed WAY harder than the arctic monkeys ... no shame/hate when I say that.... just for me; it’s facts. This one.... just.. SOOOO many feelz; can’t even describe.
UGH I just love the bridge The syncopation is insane He has to keep his hand going as a metronome of sorts and I love that UGH IM DEAD CUZ THIS IS SO GREAT WOW
Thanks for making me Pay attention to it, I think it made me appreciate it more. I mean, I'm a drummer so i felt the beat going on, but because you said this I was aware of how difficult it was for him to sing on like this. In other words, thanks dude!
I wouldn't really call this auto tune, it's obviously done on purpose as part of the style of this cover. Sounds like daft punks style of vocals. Good cover.
Lucy Caulfield Autotune is not a vocoder. A vocoder works by taking a musical sound input (typically a synthesizer tone with a lot of harmonics), and passing it through a multi-band dynamic EQ filter, where the setting of each EQ frequency band is based on the relative spectral volume of sonic content in your voice within each frequency band at any given moment in time. In other words, if you say "aaaah", that sound has a predominant frequency; it is that frequency that is emphasized in the synthesizer's output.Autotune works by pitch-shifting the audio signal to tones that you specify with a musical keyboard, while holding the formant information steady. This prevents the "mickey-mouse" or "kidnapper" effect that can occur with an ordinary pitch shifter.
+Lucy Caulfield no its autotune, which really is a slang for a vocoder with a strong pitch correction. the vocoder would have to be controlled by a keyboard or some kind of midi, which mark is using a guitar.
+Júlíus Máni Sigurðsson No, it actually isn't. Mark is just an incredibly talented man. Have you listened to Goats in Trees before? At first people believed he had a fill in sing the low parts. His vocal range is phenomenal.
I do not see why fans of Arctic Monkeys come here to say that it is better to cover them. Nobody here ta asking who is better and much less comparing two different bands ... Mark Foster does not care for fame, he just does his song for all feel and can enjoy it. I honestly do not care nothing about it. Just come enjoy the music.
Usually people criticize covers more than originals, but i gotta say in an alternative universe this song was made for Foster. They did an amazing job and owned the song in their own unique way.
I absolutely adore this cover :) also really love arctic monkey's cover; I dont think you can really compare the two as both artists just went in completely different directions
I didn't mind Mark's experimentation with the Vocoder. It was a good rendition! Sounded so much like MGMT though. Like damn i thought i was listening to MGMT
I personally think this is better than AM. The only thing I dont like about this cover is when he went down the octave in the second verse. Still a killer cover!!
Ok they brought something new to this song I loved the "auto tune" effects (even though I know he doesn't need it it brought a cool feel) The beats were great. At first I didn't know how I felt but now I know that it was a great cover.
Personally I felt like they were going for a Discovery-esque Daft Punk vibe. I felt that it would have been better as a studio recording rather then a live version, but I quite liked it being both a FTP and a Daft Punk fan. I don't feel that it represents the material that is on both of their albums. Also there is a massive difference between Vocoder (Robotic like effect, just like a filter used for photographs but for vocals) and Auto-Tune (correcting particular notes ever so slightly to seem in tune)
