Abandoned Neighbourhood - House 7
Across the street from the last house we explored in this abandoned subdivision, this week we explore another two story home that is almost completely original to when it as built in 1988. With a Scarlett O'Hara main staircase, brick fireplaces and 80s colour palette, this large house is like stepping back in time.
Once located down a mature tree lined street and surrounded by forest and walking trails was a group of 14 abandoned luxury houses. They were bought by a developer for prices ranging from $3 million - $8 million dollars. The homeowners were given two years to live in the homes rent free before they were demolished.
Westford Homes was the original builder of the neighbourhood in the 80s, there were 5 different designs of homes to choose from. All of the houses were built in 1988 and each one had a single brick with the builders name on it.
There was opposition to the new development that will replace this one but ultimately it was approved. The current amendment allows for 139 new homes to be built and the size of the houses will be up to 4000 sq/ft. The neighbourhood is already long since sold out and the price of the homes was around the $2 million mark.

I’ve noticed so many houses in this neighborhood have flooded basements. That’s a big problem! It doesn’t matter how expensive and luxurious your home is, if it floods it’s bad news! I’d much rather have a simpler house that’s on a dry solid foundation. Imagine replacing this with a 4000sq.ft. home. Great video James.

@StaticSpaces 6 месяцев назад
Ya, I was surprised they all flooded too. I don't understand why they don't have backflow valves or something like that, in case of an emergency like a power failure or pump failure, it would keep the basement from flooding. Almost all homes in this area have basements and if it floods, you would be looking at $1000s worth of damage. Thank you very much for your comment Harriet!!

At 24:09 he shows the sump pump. As long as it is working properly ground water is not a problem. Power is off so pump is not working.

They need to have auctions where people can come in and bid on everything in that home that is worth saving and put into other homes like the staircases,appliances,windows,the fireplace downstairs,the bar downstairs etc.😊👍
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 6 месяцев назад
They actually donated it all, or at least what people wanted. They allowed a non profit to come in and salvage the materials that they wanted

Spectacular find. This brought back many memories of my new build house in Arizona. Built 1983. It was all built from a model home tract but customized with a sunken family room. It had brushed silver blinds with custom padded valances and we had Patrick Nagel prints everywhere. Do you know Nagel prints? The house was smaller than this. I am fascinated with houses. I now live in an 1864 house on a bluff in Iowa. I just can’t get enough of old and vintage. Thanks

His work looks somewhat familiar, so I have maybe seen one or two of them in the past. Sounds like you have lived in a couple of really nice places. I'm with you though, give me vintage over modern any day! Thank you very much for your comment!!

Probably my favorite house in the subdivision. I love the fireplace and bar area in the recroom! The kitchen would have been beautiful. Too bad most of the cupboards were already gone. Thanks so much for posting and I can't wait to see you at the next.......... Static Space!

Amazing video! Such a huge house and I am stymied that these homes would be demolished. What a waste, excepting the fact they had a natural swimming pool in their basement! Loved the staircase railings! Wainscotting was impressive too. And colours were wonderful. And I must mention that I sure appreciated your respect for privacy with bank statement! Commendable! Thanks for sharing!

Well the basements flooded in the spring after the power had been shut off, so that didn't play into why they were abandoned. Really glad you enjoyed the tour and thanks very much for your comment!!

Another great house! The 80's homes remind me so much of my dad's house. Even though it was built in 1939, they did extensive remodeling in the 80's, so it shared many of the same details we see in these places. I think there was even a grey sink at one time. Thanks for the vid!

Hi James! These houses were such a nice development. I will have to go back and rewatch the others to refresh my memory, but I think definitely this is one of my favourites. Love the layout and the decor and the brick fireplaces. I can just imagine what the kitchen looked like. I’m sure it was lovely. I would go back to the 80s and 90# in a heartbeat lol! From previous conversations about that time in life I’m sure you won’t agree 😂 These houses are younger than me! Just a bit 😂 Thanks for the video!

@@StaticSpaces it really was. Maybe it was the 80s/90s decor you weren’t keen on. I think this type of decor is coming back. My mum has just redecorated a room before Christmas and the curtains are very 80s/90s

They took the one mantle from the fireplace. Maybe it was antique or marble. Wonder where the sump pump is... Thank you for the great explore. Ethan Minnie mentioned you, so I came to take a look. Yes, they removed a lot of things from these homes, from what I understand it was all donated. The sump pump is still there but it stopped running when they cut the power. Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you very much for your comment!!

I think this is one of my favorite houses from this neighborhood. Love the layout and the size of the rooms. The staircase beautiful! Love both of the brick fireplaces although the other fireplace was probably beautiful before torn apart. So there were 14 large homes spread nicely over this acreage but there will be 139 large houses crammed into that same acreage. What about the impact on the land, will there be enough land for proper drainage, enough water supply, enough trees to clean the air. I know the impacts these developments will have are supposedly studied before approval but I can’t help believing that these studies are compromised and slanted in favor of rich developers. I would much rather live off the beaten path in peace and tranquility as opposed to being crammed in to a house in a crowded cookie cutter neighborhood. I love watching explore videos all you guys post but I get pretty sad at all the waste in tearing down perfectly good homes. But I can only be an observer since I’m not an uber wealthy one able to try to save some of them. Thanks James for sharing and sorry for rambling on. This neighborhood to me seemed like an idyllic spot to live and raise a family and I’m sad that it’s gone.
@StaticSpaces

It definitely was a nice neighbourhood, way out of my reach in terms of home coats though. 😆 When they build these new tightly packed subdivisions, they usually add storm water ponds and I guess that makes up for how close together the homes are? I'm not sure, I'm not an urban planner. But I will say, I often wonder whether these new homes get flooded basements, with all that water coming off the roofs and the concrete yards. Glad you enjoyed this one Karrie and thanks a lot for your comment!!

Hello. I think it is bullshit!!! The neighborhood was just fine before the investor came in!!! Investors need to be banned from buying up properties like that one. I bet you if the neighborhood had an HOA he could not buy up any of the homes. Investors need to find vacant land to build on!!! Feel so sad to see these homes are going to be demolished 😢 There is nothing wrong with any of them.👍
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 6 месяцев назад
Well the issue we are facing in this area is that there isn't much vacant land left and everybody wants to move to this particular area, so we desperately need the homes. I think they would much prefer to buy undeveloped land because it would mean more profit. But I agree, it is really weird to see all of this going on around us. Thank you very much for your comment!!
