My name is Eelke. I'm a singer, songwriter and musician from The Netherlands. Check out my videos and let me know what you think!
This is the third song on my Old Friend EP, which I recorded in 2015 and released in 2016. The recording process for this one was a little different from the rest of the EP. All other songs are essentially live recordings to which more instrumental parts were added later, meaning my acoustic guitar and vocals were recorded live, as well as the rhythm section (if the song has bass and drums in it). But for this song we recorded the two electric guitars live, and added the vocals and all other instruments later. I didn't play this one live very much, because I wrote it in an open tuning on guitar (I think open E with a capo) and it usually takes too much time to change the tuning just for one song in the set.

I like this. It’s different from the songs that you seem to be doing now which are a little edgy.

I like doing different things :) This Friday I've got my EP finally coming out which has the 3 singles I've released over the past months. But last week I've also finished mixing my next EP of four songs which are more acoustic/live. I think you'll like those. It will probably be a couple of months until those are released. I did a little crowdfunding last summer to pay for the recording and mixing, but I still need to find some funds to get the recordings mastered, which is tricky without any gigs.

@@eelkemusic Has it started to open up over there where you’ll be able to have live shows? Over here they’ve started to lift restrictions on dining and allowing a reduced number of fans to sporting events. Kids go back to school next month.

I don't follow it all very closely, but so far not much has changed. I've got some gigs planned in May, but no idea if that's realistic. Non essential stores are still closed. Hairdressers just opened again I think. The concert venues and theaters are probably the last thing to open up. For years now we've had a government that doesn't seem to care about or understand popular music, or culture in general really. I've heard about some experiments with concerts where all the audience had to provide a negative test before attending but those are on a bigger scale, not my level. I've had a covid-restricted gig planned and postponed a couple times now. Max. 30 people, seated, max. 45 minutes. In a venue in Amsterdam that I sold out with full capacity (150 or so) when I released my EP there in March 2019. But along with the uncertainty of not knowing till the last moment if it's even allowed to take place at all, we just don't seem to sell any tickets either. I think that's because of the uncertainty. People don't wanna take the risk, and then have to claim back their money or something.

@@eelkemusic Here’s a good one for you. Last Monday live performances were permitted with a reduced number of people in the audience. Then on Friday the state came out and said that you can perform but you can’t sing, only instruments. How did they not think that singing was going to go along with performances? We’ve lost our minds over all of this. Reason has to take over at some point.

Haha wow, aren't they afraid that when the performers only provide the music, the audience will just have to take it upon themselves to do the singing? :)
