After The Dance by Fourplay From "An Evening of FourPlay" Guitar: Lee Ritenour Keyboard: Bob James Bass: Nathan East Drum: Harvey Mason My 2nd Favourite song from Fourplay Enjoy!
How the Hell can you not like this are you crazy nothing but all-star musicians. Bob James on keys Lee Ritenour on guitar strings just to name a few Phil Perry and Phil Baily on background vocals come on yall.
That is literally one of the most overpowered group of backup singers in the history of time. Only musicians like these could get such badasses to do that. ...also that Phil Perry solo is literally one of my favorite solos of all time, and I mean any instrument doing a solo. Ooooof.
These are 4 of the best musicians on their particular instruments, 2 of the best soulful lead singers, of all time, on backup vocals and Nathan’s voice is perfect for smooth jazz. It can get as good but it can’t possibly get better.
I can't believe that I just happened to stumble on this work of art for the first time in August. They do Marvin proud. Nate Watts CAN sing too.....and to be backed up by Philip Bailey and Phil Perry......It doesn't get any better than that.
This is my favorite. I remember it from Marvin Gaye, and it always brings a certain light to my day. I wish I could explain it better. It always lifts me up and takes me to a special place. That is still not good. It is just a special feeling I get.
The two Phils singing backup? Nathan "Flying" East has some pretty nice pipes as well! All this and four of the best musicians in the world! Cannot be beat! - Mike (Reese's dad)
I have had this DVD for many years and still often listen to this track. What an amazing band including Bob James, Lee Ritenour and Nathan East. Really looking forward to seeing Lee Ritenour with Dave Grusin at Ronnie Scott's in a few weeks!
Man everyone on that stage has exceptional talent!!!! What happened to groups like these??? Man, the song has gone off and I'm still jammin'!!! It's in my SOUL!!!!
Nice remake. And check out the superstars Philip Bailey of Earth Wind and Fire and Phil Perry, great voices along with Nathan East. Fourplay is outstanding.
I used to sneak into my dad's cd collection when I was younger and listen to this, I loved their version of Marvin Gay's song. It was so jazzy and the insturments sound amazing...Thanx for posting this!
Yup. Those guys are top notch instrumentalists. Most session musicians in the jazz, r&b, and fushion looked up to them for musical advice in the 70s and 80s.
I loved this remake of Marvin "Motown" Gaye's song.....Whether its El, Nathan, Phil Or Phillip SINGIN IT'S the fact that FOURPLAY and BOB"PEANUTS"JAMES playin the instruments..... ITS THEM my peeps "PLAYIN" THAT ROCKS THE SONG!!!!!!!!!!!
Bob James at 4:31 is my most favorite! I don't prefer many re-makin' Marvin, but Foreplay, Michael McDonald and Will Downing have been smooth successes.
El Debarge actually did it with Fourplay. I was hoping he would be there to sing it. Nathan East was good but he ain’t no El Debarge. It is Marvin Gaye song.
I read somewhere that El DeBarge is having some problems. Next to Marvin Gaye, I love hearing El do this song...He is a great vocalist for "smooth" jazz groups. I hope he starts performing again.
Yea Nathan East is still around, he plays with this band quite alot as well as playing on various sessions for various artists. I saw him live with Herbie Hancock last year.
