I get off work late at night in downtown. I end up heading to the freeway at about the same time officers seem to be getting off their shifts! I sure do wish they had someone around to do a point system on their own driving habits! Crossing 3 lanes of traffic, NO signal indicator, to get to an on ramp, among other really dangerous and rude behavior. While I certainly hope they are not under undo pressure at work, they may think about how powerless the rest of us feel as they tell us to do as they say not as they do. No one, not the drivers, not the Chief or the officers should be doing the wrong thing.

It's been going on far longer than 5-6 years. More like 15 years, they changed the word from quota to points. Even back then they denied it being a quota.

Ogden police officers crime isn't down..you have just as much drug traffic and drug addics as west valley city Utah so big crime

Ogden police have needed to be held accountable for a long time. Look at everything that’s been on the news with them lately. They have been abusing their power for way too long.

I live in North Ogden and am in Ogden all the time obviously but North Ogden police is waaaaaayyyy worse than OPD and that's saying something. I've never been pulled over by OPD before but North Ogden they will pull you over for any little thing, like going 1mph above the speed limit....

Running red lights in Ogden is super common, and I see few drivers getting tickets for it🤷🏻‍♂️

There seem to be a whole point system for all of Utah, specially highway patrol. But in Ogden going down 300 W heading to Riverdale road two instances the parked cops have followed me down the hill and made a U turn at the end. Luckily I saw him and I kept it to the limit. I usually go 2-3 above but when they do stuff like that I don't give them any excuses. This needs to be fixed.

Note to self… don’t trust the mafia that has a badge…if anything these guys need to be held accountable and the chief needs to be arrest and charged with felonies! If cops want a easier job and not to dangerous. It all starts by not losing the public’s trust.

Yes and now the old police chief that started the quota system maybe 15 years ago. Is now running for Ogden Mayor, John Greiner is his name. He was also found guilty of the Hatch act and had to resign as police chief.

This is sad that a captain will sit there and lie to a camera and say it’s not a quarter I think the state should step in and set them straight

Chief Young changes his tone slightly on the word “quota”. It’s a tell - he knows that it’s a quota but by changing the term to point system, he thinks he’s pulling a fast one. Any interrogator worthy of the title would see that.

Why I left Ogden 20 years ago.

They always come out from the 15th to the 22nd of the month, and especially when it rains.

They could easily reach their QUOTA's by patrolling Jackson Ave from 37th-40th! They certainly don't share the revenue with employees of the city. So who's getting that?

Livid!!!!!!!! Said I was going 45 in 25, Then comes back saying I was going 39 in a 25 because I was from idaho and the speed didn't process??? Therefore I'm wondering if I was speeding at all!! I was going the flow of traffic, and had this officer flip an UTURN without his blinker on to write me up

More tickets = reduced crime, perfect cop logic.

It doesn’t matter, if they didn’t have quota or points they still get fired for low performance, I know a guy who was warned about not giving enough

If OPD simply required officers to focus on patrolling traffic for violations for part of the day, they would simply be writing citations constantly. Ogden drivers are bad, bad, bad, and Utah drivers are no better. Unfortunately, we have all sorts of other issues with criminal activity, homelessness, and social welfare in Ogden, that OPD are constantly responding to. Be careful what you wish for Ogden, if OPD simply turns the officers loose on traffic, with no "points" system at all, it might get worse, not better.

Ogden has racist police officers. I remember encountering racial profiling from them and them saying the worst racist things I have ever heard.

Tickets = Fund raiser Call it what you want. People are getting higher tickets because cop are trying to gain points faster. So they don’t have to work. And can just sit in there idling cars.

Eric Garner was an assault to create a quota arrest. A group of officers harassed the smallest one in their group to run behind and start violently choking the guy, whose reaction and the fight the police started would create several instances to meet their quota in regard to the arrest and charges the attack would produce. Usually when someone is choked from behind, they fight back as they feel like they are dying. The attack was done to produce such a reaction. If it was a real effort to subdue for an arrest, they would not tell the smallest officer of the group to do it.

Utah needs to write MORE tickets. Ogden drivers do not stop at red lights or stop signs. Tailgating in Ogden does not mean a fun afternoon of burgers in the parking lot. Encourage ticket writing to keep us safe on Ogden streets.

I'm a security guard in ogden and never had an issue with OPD. All but 1 officer has been respectful (the 1 seemed like he was having a rough day most likely from dealing with a fatality or something like that). The fact that officers are speaking out about the quota shows they dont want to do it and are being forced to by management.

I agree with the chief. There are so many dangerous drivers out there, to me it would be hard not to write tickets, constantly. So if officers aren't enforcing the law their not doing their job, nor keeping the public safe. Hit pieces like this are probably put forth by those that exceed the speed maximum on a regular basis. Two tickets a week is slacking.

Lock this chief in a prison cell

Adam Herbets is an anti-law enforcement reporter. He would have more credibility if he would report in a more balanced way. But most of his stories are critical and never reflect anything in a balanced way. Additionally, how are we supposed to know if Adam’s “witness” really works for Ogden PD. For all we know, that could be anyone. Adam’s reporting is deceptive at best, and right out lying at worst. He’s not fooling me. His sensationalistic reporting mimics Fox News and CNN, which are both considered entertainment and are not reliable or credible news sources. Besides, eight tickets a month, or two a week, is hardly anything. That’s only 20 minutes of work a week. Our State Troopers write about 40 tickets a week, or ten a day. The Chief’s system seems like he wants to motivate his officers to be productive and do their job. They are getting paid to work, right?
