@@raygun1958 they are both great but both two different types of music. I'm a trumpet player so I like Leonid and Friends but I love Foxes and Fossils for their perfect harmonies. I love harmonies. I have to rate Foxes and Fossils #1.
Seven combinations of the ladies' voices: Maggie solo, Maggie with Sammie on high harmony, the three together, Sammie solo, Sammie with Maggie on high harmony, Chase solo, Chase with Sammie on high harmony.
The thing is, this is basically a hobby. (It's starting to pay pretty well) The band members live in 5 different states nowadays,so it's individual preparation and no rehearsal in the usual sense. They just record their tracks when they can, some of them at their own homes and Tim pulls it all together and we get a masterpieces like this. These people know they have something special and they find a way to keep doing it.
Their harmonies make me cry Lyn. It's embarrassing around my family LOL! When I was in HS, (a hundred years ago) I knew some talented people but maybe it's because I know just enough to know how truly difficult it is to create sound like that. Living for next Wed.!
F&F... You are the best cover band in the world. You outdo yourselves with each new release. It is a great pleasure to hear you ... always. Thank you F&F for giving us your art, your music. Son la mejor banda de "covers" del mundo. Se superan a sí mismos con cada nueva versión. Es un placer enorme escucharlos... siempre. Gracias F&F por entregarnos vuestro arte, vuestra música.
I always seem come back to "Our lips are Sealed" and "Crazy and Gnarly" as my go to (in concert) versions, at the end of an evening of listening to You Tube Reactions . Their studio songs are all g great !!!
I'd also like to point out that these young women recorded their tracks separately having never sung it together in person to the best of my knowledge. They're rarely ever all in the same place at once.
Thanks for covering this video, John. I listened to the original several times (by Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, and Emmylou Harris). It is really great, and I regard them as really top artists. I will incur the wrath of some, but I think Ronstadt is at the top of the peak in artistry, and their performance is unbeatable. But the girls come as close as humanly possible to matching the original. What a great accomplishment. And I do wonder if they inevitably give up something by not being in the same studio. If you are looking for other videos, three of my favorites are Harvest Moon, Can't Let Go, and We Gotta Find You a Woman (Tim is a super vocalist and - understandably - gets overlooked.)
At least they got the ladies vocals recorded in- studio. Scott and Toby probably doesn't matter, its just sending digital information whether its across the room or miles away. The guitars were always direct into the board and recorded even when they played live. But the joy of performing it together in person is missing of course.
Yeah, it isn't better than the original, but the fact that some think so is quite a compliment. This band is amazing, and like you said - as close as you can get to three of the best voices of their era, ain't darn bad.
Next video needs to be their cover of This is Dedicated to the One I Love by the Mamas and Papas. NO ONE covers Cass Elliot. Except Chase Turan of the F&F. FANTASTIC cover, maybe their best.
Our Lips are Sealed,Only Exception(2011), I Can't Let Go, Landslide,Helplessly Hoping, Doctor My Eyes, We Gotta Get You A Woman, When You Say Nothing at All, Letters to Cleo, Can't Hurry Love, Amie, Fairytale,Nobody Love, Harvest Moon, Good Kisser, Love is the Answer .Each is my favorite when I'm listening to it. The Mustangs (on F&Fs list) 1)Roll With it Baby (2014) 2)Walkin' in Memphis.
@@jemntertainment One fan commented on their channel: "If its not too much trouble, please just redo every song ever written, that would be great" (including the 15 mustangs covers there's about 71 cover songs on F&F channel.)
The group is amazing, no doubt about that. If you are going to review music, you should have know that the "other two country music icons" are Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. Not picking on you, but it's always good to do a little research. Cheers and be safe.
We are fortunate to be living in these days. We get to enjoy the Foxes and Fossils all the way back to SJBE. Growing up, I listened to my first favorite song "Satisfaction" on a feeble AM radio with one scratchy speaker. Then monaural albums on vinyl, then stereo. Then tapes, 8-tracks, CDs and then streaming. People working miracles on the sound boards, killer headphones, high bandwidth data transmission, Bluetooth. Man, we are hearing better music than I heard in 1963. Oh yeah, and throw in some incredibly talented and dedicated musicians! Thank you guys, seriously.
Yes, you are so right my friend. But Let's not forget the miracles that were created and recorded on Reel to reel. Like you also pointed out we went from Mono to Stereo, then we leaped into THX 5.1 and 7.1 Surround sound Wow!
John, a special thanks for helping get the word out to the wider world, about this amazing group. Best song for me would probably be "Can't Hurry Love" but that's just today, ask me tomorrow and it might be ??????
I've heard both trio's do it and love both. I personally like foxes because it showcases all 3 singers with lead. Also I think the recording equipment has improved in quality. All of them are Excellent singers!
The Trio was recording in a studio with hundreds of thousands of dollars? of likely the best equipment available at the time. This was recorded and mixed with a Behringer X32 .Came out in 2012 about $2400.Tim said going digital changed everything for small time bands.I.E. they don't have to rent expensive studio time, they can work on things in a home studio and take their time trying different things and play back a studio quality recording.
I just bought Foxes and Fossils cd and it includes this song. Can't wait to get it. I love this band and enjoy the videos so much. As a performer, I would love to be in this band. But not much chance of that. LOL
The cover of Neil Young's Harvest Moon is worth a listen to, no doubt. This Telling me Lies one is so touching though. As with so many of their covers, it's tempting to say they do it better than the original.
That's great because the most annoying thing ever....is whenever any one is being observed when singing they constantly have their eyes closed. It happens so much time and again.
Agree with the comment below about sounding like siblings. They did a fantastic job on Don't Worry Baby, so would love to hear them attempt another multi-part Brian Wilson song such as In My Room or maybe Surfer Girl? Thank you for the beautiful sounds you're making which lighten up the dull, cold, dreary weather here in London, England xxx
Kinda late with this commen, but next to "Telling Me Lies", my favorite is "When You Say Nothing At All". That's when I fell in love with Maggie. The one that tugs at my heart the most is, "The Night Before", when Sammie pays her love to Maggie. Brings tears to my eyes every time. (But you have to know the story behind that one...)
Firstly I have to say that you are the only reactor that religiously reacts to foxes and fossils and I for one appreciate that because they are an amazing group secondly I too have not heard and still have not heard the original I mean Linda Ronstadt Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton those three are big huge names in Country musicand I never knew that they did a song together, and I honestly probably will never listen to the original because I love this version
@Schell... I'm in complete agreement with you, Leonid & Friends, they cover Chicago & EW&F better than the original bands cover themselves, F&F are of that same caliber. As John says... "All they need is one big break"... Been listening to both bands from their respective beginnings... And have never been disappointed with any cover performed!
John, you should consider reacting to a song by Chase Truran. Her cover of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" will blow you away! Try it; you'll like it!
I have to agree.... these ladies have something special when they sing together. I just found their music yesterday and I am just amazed...from years ago to today, they just harmonize together amazingly. You need to pay the original version of this song and this version, side by side and you will see that the foxes do an even better job that the originals.
